Customers are saying
Customers often highlight the excellent sound quality, ease of use, and Dolby Atmos capabilities of the 1155W 7.2-Ch. A/V Home Theater Receiver. Many also appreciate the receiver's power and straightforward setup process. While some users noted the unit can get warm during operation and that the menu system could be improved, the positive feedback on sound and ease of use outweighs these concerns for most buyers. The price point is also frequently cited as a positive aspect.

Great Surround Sound
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After owning the Sony STR-DN1080 for just over a month I like this unit more and more every day. The onscreen menus make Setting up this unit a breeze. I’m using the 7.1 configuration. I read some reviews about this unit not having enough bass. There is an extra setting to achieve more bass. Overall this is the best receiver I have had.

Thank you for the 5-star rating. You’re now able to experience true home theater sound without limitations. Once you take advantage of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X object-based surround sound, combined with 4K HDR and HDCP 2.2 support, there is no going back! Be sure to take advantage of the flexibility of 6- in/2-out HDMI and multi-room listening, plus voice control powered by Google Home. Don’t forget our Phantom rear surround channels can transform your five-channel system into a seven- channel system too!

Receiver works well with Sony TV
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Major flaw is when you use headphones, it shuts off the main audio for others to hear. Also cannot use my wireless speakers due to transmitter must be plugged into headphone's outlet. When using wireless speakers you lose the use of the main sound system.

Great Product, Confusing Setup and Use
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very high-quality product and has made connecting my speaker system to my TV possible. However, the amount of time and work it takes to make sure everything is working properly is unbelievably aggravating. I am relatively tech savvy and usually have little trouble with more confusing setups and maintenance, but figuring out how to do the simplest things even months after I got everything hooked up has been infuriating. However, I still give the product 4 stars as this is the case for all receiver systems. I just wish they could be much more user-friendly and I wouldn't have to explain which output to have turned on and the right buttons to push to every person that just wishes to watch a movie, play Xbox, listen to music on the speakers without the HDMI switching to the receiver on the TV, etc. I am still figuring all of this out myself and I'm starting to almost wish I had just stuck with a sound bar. If you are adept at using receivers, I would highly recommend. If you are looking for a simple setup and high ease-of-use for a family TV, I would look into a sound bar or something that doesn't require a receiver.

Great AV receiver
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced the Sony STR-DN1080 with this unit. The sound is considerably better, but the eq on the 1080 are easier to play with it. Another downside is that I can’t no longer control my TV with the remote, on the 1080 there is a button like (shift) function kind of that you hold it down and the rest of the buttons control the tv. I’ve also noticed that when you change the eq the resolution changes.

1st Time Owning A Receiver
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't been disappointed. It's easy to set up. With my Sony TV, Playstation and 4K player it has integrated well. I only need to use one controller for everything. I was looking for something easy for entry level AV and this is fantastic. It has more than enough inputs for me. I like having one on the front. The Bluetooth and Airplay are easy to use.

Everything and the kitchen sink
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a fantastic machine that for now seems future proof. So many features and options that it is hard to think of much more you would ever need and want until they come out with some new technology. But for today... it covers the gamut. Atmos, BT, Tons of input for components and scores of HDMI... It's good.

Great Starter Receiver
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great receiver for anyone starting out or looking for a basic setup. I am currently using this in a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos setup. Sony makes it very easy right out of the box with its user interface. Sounds are clear and crisp. Wifi capabilities are awesome for Apple Airplay. Pros: inexpensive, great quality, great sound Cons: Olny 7 channels powered, No Pre-outs

Thumbs up!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Took a little getting used to! But now I’m confident I bought the right receiver! I almost purchased a less expensive Sony. But I thought these products last forever, so why not upgrade to one that is quite a bit more advanced in quality and performance! I definitely made the right choice!

Great AV receiver for the money!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this AV receiver to replace a year and a half old budget Pioneer receiver which I was having issues on the rear speaker level connections on. I am can hesitant to go with Sony as I have perceptions I guess that Sony doesnt put out a whole lot of quality gear, aside from a few exceptions. Im not really up to date on Sony’s gear in general so couldnt claim to know if that is true or not but I can say that I am really happy about going with this receiver. Theres a lot of really good features on it so I’ll just brush over what stands out the most to me. Compared against my old budget Pioneer, theres a ton more value here. While I only have a 5.1 set up and no plans to go Atmos in the near future due to the configuration of the room its in, I have that flexibility. While the budget Pioneer may have had more legacy connections, I dont end up using them and have greater flexibility with HDMI ports. Not only did my old receiver not have WiFi, I couldnt run a ethernet cable to it either, this Sony receiver has both options which is great. The graphical on screen UI is really nice and makes set up a breeze. The included microphone and time delay set up was really easy to use. All in all, its a really great receiver and provides a ton of value for the price.

Best Buy For Money & Power
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded my amplifier for my KLIPSCH speakers and this on made my system rock. The last amp I had put our 720 watts. I couldn't believe how much better my system sounds. The bass now sounds like so much better. This amp is a MUST.

Mixed emotions.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I know that this receiver is top rated by C-Net and other publications. I have very mixed feelings about it. It is frustrating to use, the remote is too simple, and the controls are too confusing. One really bad thing is that the labels on the inputs on the back of the receiver don't match the labels on the remote, and the labels that show on the tv don't match the receiver or the remote.I have decided to keep this receiver because of how much trouble it would be to return it, but I am not all that happy with it. WiFi works, Bluetooth works, and the sound is ok, which I guess is the main thing, but it is very frustrating to set up and to use.

Awesome AVR......Love it!!!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After doing much research, compared and tested with the Denon AVR S950H. I decided to go with the Sony STRDN1080, since I find it to be more user friendly, very crisp/clear sound and when running Atmos movies it creates a better and great punch. In this price range, I believe it is the best option yet.

Good upgrade from my 790
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 1080 is working well for me. I enjoyed the surround sound auto-setup feature: plug in the supplied microphone, and the system will self-calibrate. There's enough power to drive my speakers and subwoofer to thundering volume, without loss of quality. I have yet to upgrade to 4K, but purchased this receiver for said eventuality.
