Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the excellent sound quality, ease of use, and Dolby Atmos capabilities of the 1155W 7.2-Ch. A/V Home Theater Receiver. Many also appreciate the receiver's power and straightforward setup process. While some users noted the unit can get warm during operation and that the menu system could be improved, the positive feedback on sound and ease of use outweighs these concerns for most buyers. The price point is also frequently cited as a positive aspect.

This was to replace a Bose Acustamass System receiver, but we found that it took quite a bit of adjustments to get it to do almost as much as the old system. The Geek Squad did a great job in trying to get everything to work

The only reason it did not get 5 stars was it is difficult to set up non-HDMI inputs... the menu can be difficult to navigate and understand the settings. I finally gave up and bought a RCA to HDMI adapter to get my older equipment connected.

I'm not sure what more I could ask for from a receiver, especially at this price point. ATMOS is incredible and this thing handles everything that is thrown at it. Definitely would purchase again.

This Sony receiver is a good fit for a beginner or moderate a/v buyer. It’s very simple and it is a great item for the price. If you want a mid level receiver this is great. The more expensive ones are very big and not what I particularly need in my living room.

I’ve always been a fan of Sony Home Audio equipment - my old Receiver lasted me over 10 years, and might have lasted longer had some of the spring loaded speaker wire input not broken. This time around, I opted for this 1080 model, which features barrel connectors across all inputs, not just the front speakers. Feature wise, I’m just starting to tap into what the receiver can do. My wife is already enjoying the built-in Chromecast/AirPlay integration, which replaces the old Airport Express unit we had connected on the other unit. For the humble family room in our new home, it’s just what we need, while we rebuild the Home Theater.

Very hi tech compared to my Sony str- D1011 pro logic that I've purchased about 30 years ago that finally went out. It was featured in Stereo Review back when it was too of the line. The only thing do far that I don't like about this new Sony is that it don't have a tape monitor hook up so that I can use my stand alone graphic equalizer. When I'm watching tv the dialog sounds flat. The unit does have a built in eq but you can only adjust the bass and hi 's but you can't do anything with midrange. It's fairly new to me so I haven't really gotten into it. Also I only have front speaker surround hookup with a 10 inch sub because I live in the third floor in an apartment. I don't know if my personal input will help.

Did a fair amount of research before purchasing this model. Had upgraded to a 4K Samsung 82” TV and wanted a receiver with plenty of inputs and outputs to run multiple PC’s, DVD player, FiOS box and for streaming apps. Also have pre-existing speakers and wanted great sound quality. Well, the sound quality was great......astonishingly it was the video and Sony repair that fell down. From the start the picture pixelated after a variable amount of viewing time then lost signal and dropped to black screen. Powering on/off seemed to clear it but after a couple of weeks this problem simply persisted and made viewing impossible. Before contacting Sony I tested all components by directly connecting with the TV and ruled out the (new) 4K HDMI cables and the TV ports. Sony told me to ship to their 3rd party repair center. After a few weeks awaiting their return due to COVID (understandable) the repair center returned the unit with a note saying no fault found. It took less than an hour to find this meant no change in experience so I returned it again for more testing as Sony refused to replace it. This time the repair center replaced something they termed a “video component” so I had hoped that would fix it. Sadly, no, actually an immediate picture quality failure and zero watchability. Sony then said they’d replace it, and they did, with another refurbished model! It was scratched and obviously repackaged. It also failed to perform any better. At this point I gave up and decided to try using it with a non-4K TV in my garage. It worked fine which suggested an issue with the ability to pass 4K signal over time. I’m not techie enough to know why that would happen. Sony refused a refund so that’s the last time I buy a Sony item. To date I’ve just used the TV speakers which aren’t great but I just can’t spend another $500 on a receiver. When I do it’ll be a Denon or Yamaha most likely. I’d be interested to hear if anyone else has found this unit unreliable and what they would choose now for a mid-priced 4K unit capable of powering 4-Ohm speakers.
