However, the automatic sound leveling system never seemed to work. I had to balance the system manually. Would give it 4.5 stars if I could.

Setting up a new home theater system and this will be the hub. Initial set up was easy but took some time.

Sound quality is superb. Connections are strong and sturdy holds up nicely. Only downfall is one night watching t.v. the reciver started turning off and on repeatedly causing the tv panel to burn out. Now the t.v. e-arc port will not read any device thus making the 3,500 home theater system useless. Thats another review.

The sound and specs are great, as expected. The remote-based controls for switching sources and other functions are significantly easier than the earlier model but will look familiar to Sony users. The only problem I had, and still have, is pairing Bluetooth headphones, including Sony's. At minimum, the instructions are vague. I expect to get things to work but the pairing does not work "out of the box". Otherwise recommended, particularly for Sony fans.

The first one people will notice is the “humming” sound it constantly makes. The living room sounds like it’s under powerlines. A large part of it is the housing. I can place my hand on top of the receiver and a large part of the noise will go away. But it’s still noticeable. Damping material would’ve helped if they added it, but from my understanding this is the nature of the power supply on this specific receiver and the reason for a lot of returns. The second issue I have ran into it the HDMI is buggy. Sometime when switching between ports, the screen will have a greenish tint to it. I have to unplug the receiver and plug it back in to get it to fix itself. Third issue, the receiver introduces a high pitch sound in the tweeters on all speakers. Kind of like the sound of your ears ringing. The sound is constant it does not change with volume, even muting. It doesn’t always do it, but when it does I have to unplug and replug it back in and sometimes it fixes it for a while. If it doesn’t have the high pitch sound, it does have some type of sound going to the speakers that I cannot get rid of. A very light crackling sound. Not as noticeable as the high pitch sound, but it shouldn’t be doing this. If you are interested in this receiver, these are the issues you should be aware of. The second and third may be a factory defect, but the first you are pretty much guaranteed to have. On the plus side, the receiver is very easy to use and setup. I will be returning the unit this weekend.
