Customers are saying
Customers often highlight the excellent sound quality, ease of use, and Dolby Atmos capabilities of the 1155W 7.2-Ch. A/V Home Theater Receiver. Many also appreciate the receiver's power and straightforward setup process. While some users noted the unit can get warm during operation and that the menu system could be improved, the positive feedback on sound and ease of use outweighs these concerns for most buyers. The price point is also frequently cited as a positive aspect.

Poor installation information in the manual.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this Sony receiver and a wireless Sony speaker on April 18,2020. I am still unable to get sound from my TV using this receiver. I used Sony's live chat and they are unable to solve the problem. After reading the manual over and over, I purchased an optical cable and got a picture. After I got a picture on the TV, I was able to use the quick setup to "pairing the wireless speaker." Using just the manuals for the receiver and speaker was useless.

Garbage
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This hate this Sony receiver. The first one failed twice, I had it repaired then the second time I had an issue I filed a written complaint which went unresolved during the warranty period, then when I followed up for a resolution I was told that it was no longer under warranty. I researched for the best receiver and was told that this was still the best so I stupidly bought again… was in repair within a couple of months. Then it quit working again. Fortunately Best Buy backed me up with exchanging for a Denon I love.

Receiver didn’t work with my Sony TV and Apple TV
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I installed this receiver to my ARC ports on the receiver and TV it worked at first. Then I hooked up my 4k Apple TV. The Apple TV wouldn’t transmit at 4k Dolby Vision and downconverted to 4K SDR. I had the HDMI settings on the TV and receiver set to enhanced 4K. Still didn’t work. Then the signal cut out completely from both Cable and Apple TV. Then I tried plugging my Apple TV straight to my TV and it transmitted at 4K Dolby Vision. When I reconnected I still didn’t get a signal. I completely disconnected the receiver powered everything down restarted and the same process repeated of getting a signal at first and then when reconnecting the Apple TV both the TV and Apple TV stopped transmitting a signal. I returned this item and am getting a new model Denon as I don’t have confidence in this older model Sony. I think the new video technology is incompatible even though the description suggests it is compatible with Dolby Vision. Or else possibly my unit was defective.

Posted .Hello DataBen,
We are sorry to hear about the issue with your AV receiver. This is not the experience we want you to have. Some video equipment may not output HDR contents in HDR mode if [HDMI Signal Format] is set to [Standard format], even if both TV and video equipment support HDR and 18 Gbps band width. In this case, set [HDMI Signal Format] of selected input to [Enhanced format] in the [HDMI Settings] menu. When you select [Enhanced format], use Premium High Speed HDMI cables with Ethernet which can support bandwidth up to 18 Gbps.
Dolby Vision content is output in the HDR10 or SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) format. To enjoy Dolby Vision content as it is, connect only one Dolby Vision-compatible TV to the receiver, or select either [HDMI A] or [HDMI B].
NOTE: Depending on the TV or video equipment, HDR images may not be displayed in HDR mode. Check the video capability and setting of your TV or video equipment.
We are more than happy to help you. If the unit is still with you, please email us at [email protected] with the following details:

Cannot run wired and Bluetooth speakers together
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've gone through two Sony Amps and a half-dozen calls with Sony support to find out that you cannot run wired and Bluetooth speakers at the same time! While this amp may be good, it fails to meet my needs. The bad thing about this is that an earlier Sony rep assured me if I purchased the upgraded unit (an STR-DN1080 versus an STR-DN590 I'd purchased last week) that this would meet my needs. BUT IT DOES NOT. If you want to transmit sound to Bluetooth speakers while listening to the same material through your wired speakers this is NOT the unit for you. Save yourself the time and aggravation.

18 month lifespan
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The receiver works well and has good features. The only feature that is annoying, and would have prevented me from purchasing it, is that when you adjust the volume, there is about a second-long lag before it adjusts. To make it worse, the volume adjustment appears on the tv screen and there is no way to disable this. The reason for the one-star review is the fact that after one year, one of the TV OUT hdmi ports failed. Five months later, the other one failed. I expected a receiver costing this much to last more than 18 months.

Receiver shuts off
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Listening to anything with the volume over level 60 will shut the unit off. All the speakers are for the receiver and there should be no reason why the receiver cannot handle the speakers that are recommended for it.

Posted .Hi Josh,
We do apologize for the inconvenience. There might be a problem with the wirings. Double-check the wiring of the speakers and try again. We also recommend using speaker wires that are anywhere between 12 to 16 gauge. These are most commonly used for connecting speakers to an amplifier or an Audio/Video (A/V) receiver.

Sony Receiver
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this receiver 2 years ago and it's not working anymore. My prior two receivers lasted five years or more. They were not Sony's. I thought Sony made a good receiver, but I am very disappointed with the performance and product life.

Great A/V receiver with one drawback
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We recently purchased a Sony STR-DN1080 to replace our Pioneer VSX-1021-K because of the dreaded UE22 error that started popping up. The Sony was easy to setup and audio calibration was a breeze. I did have to tweak some of the speaker settings but calibration worked for the most part (auto calibration had set my surround and height speakers as large & I reset them to small). The system sounds great now. The only drawback is the inability to hear audio through both the speakers and headphones at the same time. I tried numerous configurations without any luck and finally contacted Sony support. This is the response I got "Based on the information you provided, we understand that you would like to play the audio from both the devices (headphones and speakers). We have checked with our resources and we would like to inform you that, you could not get the sound output from both the devices at the same time (headphones and speakers)." Not a huge issue, but the 1970's model Sony receiver I had up until 2011 could send sound to both headphones and speakers and also had a turntable input and monitor out to drive the Bose 901 speakers I had at the time. From what I understand now, this is expected when you move from a stereo receiver to an A/V surround receiver. Bottom line, the STR-DN1080 is a great receiver at a very competitive price at Best Buy; $399 black Friday price.
