They sit about 3 inches high at the back so if I place this directly on the flat surface in front of the Sony Bravia 65 inch I just bought, it is just high enough to block the sensor for the remote to the TV. I had to build a base under the TV stand to raise it high enough so that the speaker did not block the remote and still have the sound bar at the bottom and in front of the TV. The sound is absolutely fine for the Family Room but if this was in a larger room with high ceilings I think I would go with something that had more oomph
