I purchased this with a Sony X950G 85" TV. The base is good and it fills the room well. Still working through some of the presets to try to get optimal sound for the different types of programs. I'm sure there are better systems, but at this price point it's reviews were very good and it works for me. Plus I like the compatibility with the same brand TV. Given the shut in status, I didn't really have the opportunity for any side-by-side comparisons, but it's been working well.

Hi PTrock, we're glad you're enjoying our products. The 2.1 channel Dolby Atmos/DTS:X soundbar with Vertical Sound Engine, our latest surround technology, lets you enjoy the thrill of Dolby Atmos from a single slim unit. No matter what type of room you're in, two front speakers reproduce "vertical" audio, creating virtual surround sound that seems to come from all around you. Thank you for choosing SONY. ~Earl Sony_US

I'll start by saying that I bought this open box and not brand new. The sound is excellent and the bass is top notch, especially in cinema mode and game mode. Its attractive and the wireless sub is great for hiding it out of sight. My only complaint is when watching long movies, the sound will occasionally cut out for a second then pop right back in, but there has been 2 times that it totally cut out all together requiring me to turn off the system then turn it back on.

This adds a lot of depth to the Sony OLED (8G). I prefer using the sound bar for louder broadcasts—esp sports or action movies. For dialogue and quieter broadcasts and streaming I use the TV—which has the sound better synchronized to the screen. It’s a much bigger sound, however, esp when Atmos/verticle kicks in. A huge plus has been using it for streaming Spotify via Bluetooth. It’s a very full sound for a relatively small package...esp the higher end. All in all, very satisfied with the sound.

This may not be the best sound bar system, but it’s not the worst. It falls somewhere in between the two, yet it is a perfect match with a Sony Bravia 4K HDR TV’s. Although you can connect via Bluetooth to your TV with this system, it’s best to connect with an HDMI Cable (included) in order to get the best sound out of the Dolby Atmos feature. Connect is fast and easy. Just plug in power cables, one from the sound bar and the other from the sub-woofer. Then plug sound bar in to the TV with an HDMI Cable to the eARC jack and done! The system effortlessly links up with your TV and the sub-woofer connects via Bluetooth.

I have an X900f TV and this fits perfectly in front of it. TV and soundbar sync works well after setting it up but has a small amount of lag when changing inputs. This is due to the soundbar attempting to recognize the signal I believe. Trying to update firmware is a PITA. You have to download on PC, upload to USB stick, then plug it into the back of the soundbar. As for the sound, it sound great for the pricepoint but to me, it really does not feel like I am hearing sound effects from behind even with ATMOS content. It just sounds more spacious. Either way, I like it for sure, better than built in speakers 100% and worth my money.

I purchased this with my X900F TV. I am going to run a sound system when I upgrade to an better TV and wanted something better than TV sound (although the X900F does a great job believe it or not!) I asked my Best Buy associate (yeah I said "MY" associate - I particularly like one guy at my local Best Buy) for recommendations under $300.00. He had recommended this one and a HTS350. I chose this one for the clarity and how it dispurses sound. He showed me a few different sources and this one sounded better to my ears. What I like about it the most, is the that I can set the distance I am sitting from the soundbar. A nice feature I haven't seen in a soundbar before. It is similar to how you would use an audio receiver with a microphone you plug in and the receiver sets the distance of the speakers in relation to the microphones placement. The exception being you have to measure the distance yourself. A nice touch. Sound from my Xfinity box through the soundbar is a nice improvement over TV sound (as expected of course). The bass tube is wireless and offers sufficient bass. Movie watching is where this soundbar shines. Believe it or not, it does really fill the room and "envelope" you in the scene. Keep in mind nothing beats a 5.1 or higher setup and you will never get true digital dolby sound, but this is like the little engine that could. The soundbar is hooked up to my TV's ARC HDMI Port and my Xfinity cable box on the input of the bar (just an FYI). I also have Apple TV 4K, Fire Stick 4K and a PS4 Pro and all sound fantastic! Note: I received $100 off this soundbar when I purchased my Sony TV, so I paid $299.99 (sells for $399.99 on Best Buy as of 4 April 2020). I still would have purchased it anyway, as it compliments my Sony X900F. I have never been a big soundbar guy, but needed one on the interim. I am impressed Sony and would recommend it.

Hi LTwinJeff, we're thrilled you love our amazing sound bar. You mentioned some of the devices you’ve connected to your soundbar which also support Dolby Atmos and DTS: X, make sure your audio content comes alive, by enabling those features on those devices as well. The Vertical Sound Engine reproduces sounds that seem to come from above, beside, and behind you for an immersive experience. Utilize one of five sound modes optimized for movies, music, gaming, news, and sports. Thank you for choosing SONY. ~Earl Sony_US

With the new Ultra HD Tv's not all soundbars work. Some of the half priced ones they will crackle and the sound will go in and out and so hate that. Least with the Sony it works good, just wish few more outputs on that or if it wouldnt go into a sleep mode with the tv, and just always have an option to stay on since the tv remote sometime can turn that off if it selects all. Overall it is a great unit for the price. I just wish it would have the LED display on that

I bought this since I know people that have bought newer TVs in the last few years that had horrible sound built-in. I was able to get this for about half price when I bought it with a Sony 4K UHD TV. Sound quality has been great and it allows for Bluetooth connectivity with other devices. Also having the Sub being able to connect wirelessly can come in handy based on entertainment center layout.
