Didn’t Work- incompatible
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this for my new 75” Sony television. Could not get it to connect. Instructions were okay. Disappointed that the bar didn’t work but the upside was the television sound quality was so good that I felt the bar wasn’t necessary.

I don’t remember. I returned it
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don’t remember this purchase very well. As I bought a lot of sound bars to test out. Because I don’t remember this one very much implies it was not very good. I did return it.

Disappointed.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the sony sound bar at the same time as my sony bravia tv. The sound from the sound bar has never successfully synced with the sony tv. Even after three visits from Geek Squad, the two sony products don't work well together. I can't recommend it.

Poor sound quality

Posted .Hi CoffeeScript, we're sorry to hear that our product failed your expectations. We recommend changing the settings of the unit to your preferred sound mode for a better experience. You may check this link. (refer to page 33-34):

We also recommend setting up your soundbar using page 44 to customize your listening distances as well the gain level of the soundbar and subwoofer. There is an additional 12 steps of adjustment for the subwoofer via the remote too.

Light,easy to hang,quick setup&oh yes great sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am blown away by the quality of sound engineered into this soundbar system. The set-up is so simple that I had this soundbar up and running in under 10 minutes? I set this up in my smaller living room as it to me is better suited to a smaller room, my living room is 15x18 with high ceilings, hard wood floors with large oriental rug and hard plastered walls. Sony's Vertical Sound Engine, actually creates virtual surround sound that seems to come from all around my Living Room, amazing sound a from such a compact lightweight device. The soundboard is best to connect by HDMI cable to the ARC port of your TV. This connection allows High Definition Audio like Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS:X, 5.1/7.1 Multi Channel PCM, etc. to pass through from your TV to the soundbar. If you do not have an ARC Port on Your TV, you can connect this Sony soundbar with an Optical Cable. However, the sound formats that can be transmitted are still great but no Dolby Atmos. An added plus is that you can connect your smart devices to this Sony soundbar through Bluetooth and play selections streaming services or your music libraries. Wow, the wireless subwoofer is outstanding and provides plenty of low frequency pop, boom. It pairs with the soundbar automatically as soon as it is plugged in. It has its own volume control on the remote which is a superb feature. Wireless makes placement and future movement a BREEZE. Although this Sony soundbar only has two front speakers the engineering to simulate 5.1/7.1 surround sound is off the wall add the powerful Wireless subwoofer and this is 5 stars.

Would not connect properly with the tv
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this sound bar thinking it would be compatible with our Sony Bravia tv. It would not connect properly to provide sound, so the tv speakers kicked in before the sound bar finally did. We ended up with an echo of sound. It was returned.

A lot of sound from a few speakers but....
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review....This system is not without some serious shortcomings. The good news first. This Sony ,soundbar, which only contains two speakers produces an amazingly full sound field, especially when cranking out true Dolby Atmos or DTS X soundtracks. (The only way to get that is via the unit's sole HDMI input connection, via a Blu-ray deck or streaming device.... more on that later) It's really quite remarkable how it wraps the sound around you in a way that is arguably better than a standard 5.1 surround system. It is more immersive than any soundbar system I have heard. Pretty amazing. The soundbar also supports Bluetooth, so you can stream music from phone or tablet. And it sounds pretty decent because of built in tech that helps improve the muddiness you generally get using any kind of wireless bluetooth connection. There is also a USB port that is supposed to support music but I never could get that to work. It kept reporting the USB drive was incompatible, which is odd since it works fine on other devices I have with USB input. The soundbar can simulate the Atmos surround bubble on any content with its "vertical surround engine" (which you can turn on or off via remote) but it's not quite the same as carefully crafted sound from an Atmos encoded Blu-ray disc. And when listening to music, that vertical sound engine can distort the sound in odd ways. Maybe that's why it is turned off by default when using the built in "music" mode. Less depth but also less distortion. Other equalizer settings include cinema, news, sports, game and standard. There is a voice mode to boost voices. An "auto" mode is supposed to be able to choose the best equalizer on its own but I found it quite lacking. There are other problems. While the sound quality is quite good given you are working with only two small speakers and a subwoofer, it lacks the depth -- mainly in the midrange -- a multi-speaker soundbar can provide. I also find the subwoofer quite weak, providing a lot less punch than other similarly priced soundbars. The front firing subwoofer also has a tendency to be viery directional, which is odd given that low frequencies tend to be omni-directional. Place it off center or off to the side of where you sit and you may not hear it at all. a serious shortcoming. The sound bubble produced by the vertical sound engine also is very directional, working best only if you are perfectly centered on the soundbar. You can adjust the distance in settings but I did not find that made a huge difference. You still get the immersive effect if not centered but the discrete left and right sounds and panning tend to get muddy.when you do that. Here;s another problem most people probably won't consider. You will not be able to hear true Atmos of Dolby X or other high res sound codecs if you are running this soundbar ONLY from your TV. That means an HDMI ARC or optical connection. Those kind of connections only support plain old Dolby Digital and DTS. A direct HDMI (not HDMI ARC) connection is required for Atmos or even Dolby True HD or DTS Master Audio. In other words, if you have a smart TV and get all your content streaming through the built in apps, Roku, Android TV, etc, then you will never hear real Atmos The only way that can happen is through a direct HDMI connection. This is not the fault of the soundbar. This limitation affects all of them. But since this soundbar only has ONE HDMI input, another big shortcoming in my view, you cannot run multiple devices through it to get true Atmos, et al. For this price, Sony should have provided two or three HDMI inputs. Not one. Bottom line: This Sony soundbar can produce some amazing sound in the right circumstances but it has a long list of limitations that might make it unsuitable for a lot of consumers. And at this price point, they have a lot of other options that might be better.

controls gone crazy
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked fine for about 3 months. Now about every 5-15 minutes it switches modes, If i'm using bluetooth it switches to tv. If on analog it switches to tv. Plus the volume increases 20% when the switch occurs. And it will not turn off it has to be unplugged. It is basically unusable in this condition. I am very disappointed. Junk product!

Extraordinary sound and clutter free to boot.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After 3 days with the Sony - 2.1-Channel Soundbar System with Wireless Subwoofer and 4K & HDR Support I am really blown away by the great sound from this small foot print package. I just moved and all my audio equipment and speakers are still packed away and this Sony sound bar and wireless subwoofer are sending them straight to for sale listings. Yes, an extensive 7.1 surround system will produce a superior surround experience, but the sound that this Sony system produces makes setting up all those speakers and contending with the clutter of wires and dusting and cleaning around all that stuff seem really foolish when you can get a more than pleasurable surround and bass experience from this compact system with just two power cords and two HDMI cables or just one optical audio cable. The bass from the wireless subwoofer is just fine and the quality of the sound from the sound bar is fantastic. The remote gives you a wealth of options for audio adjustment. The clear voice feature is just great. I have hearing loss and I can hear the voices in programs and movies that are loaded with background music just fine. Setup is quite easy. It is designed to work with TVs that have an HDMI with (ARC). The sound bar has an HDMI in so you can feed it directly from your cable or satellite box or you can feed the TV and get the sound from the HDMI (ARC) in. It also has Audio Optical and 1/8th analog in. It will work with TVs that don't have an Audio Return Channel HDMI. The only issue that I ran into was that I couldn't receive with my Sony Bluetooth headphones when I was hooked up by HDMI arc. If I received audio through the Optical cable I could receive through the headphones. I don't have a Sony TV so this might not be an issue with a Sony TV . If Bluetooth headphone reception is important to you then you will lose some audio quality in certain formats vs HDMI arc. The biggest difference is that HDMI can pass higher-resolution audio, including the formats found on Blu-ray: Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio. These formats can't get transmitted across optical. I do notice higher volume at the same remote setting when using HDMI arc. If you want really good surround effect with a good bass experience and have a smaller room or sit close to your TV and don't want a lot of extra wires and speakers this will do the job. I had no issues running 4K content from my satellite provider through the speaker bar. If you feed it an with Optical audio cable you will still need to connect it to one of your HDMI ports on your TV if you want to use the On Screen Display from the remote. You can also receive sound from your TV via Bluetooth, but I didn't test this feature. The sound bar comes with a good operators manual. I don't see how you can go wrong with this Sony sound bar and wireless subwoofer.

Awesome upgrade to a stock set up
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony soundbar looks and feels like a typical soundbar set up however it brings some key designs that help it break away from the typical set up you may be use to. I don't want to waste a lot of time on specifics since most people are buying the soundbar for one thing which is audio quality and immersion. The soundbar is a typical looking set up with a standard bar and wireless 15'' sub for bass. Most set ups i have owned in the past utilize connection via an optical cable however with the X9000F, it uses an HDMI/HDMI ARC connection and a USB port to ultize such files as mps, wav, flac, etc. The Sony X9000F comes equipped with the the Dolby Atmos surround sound. What this does is try to push through the movie cinema feel out of this 2.1 channel set up. It does try however it will fall short because in order to get a true Dolby Atmos sound you need a 7.1 set up and not a 2.1. This is not a feature that should discourage you but encourage you because Sony has made it to where you can add on additional speakers turning this set up to a true 7.1 and feel the true power of the Atmos surround sound. If you have a Sony music account you can run your app through the speakers turning this in to a stereo allowing you to jam out to all your tunes while your either cleaning the house or entertaining guest. Most soundbars are not a true surround sound but more of a add on or upgrade to a high end TV that offers low end audio. I have only ever owned soundbars to help amplify my sound quality with the realization of knowing this was not a surround sound speaker. The Sony X9000F however kinda of gave me a different impression. Lets not waste any more time and talk audio. Sony did something different with this set up via a technology they are calling the Vertical Sound Engine. There is a button on your remote called "vertical s" when pressed you will engage the Vertical Sound Engine. What this does is when you are watching a 4k or ultra 4k movie it will try its best to immerse you in a surround sound vibe by emphasizing vertical audio for distinction. I'll give you and example of what i mean. The other day me and my son were watching Spider man and there was a part where he flew over our head on his web. I could distinctly hear the audio pitch change with clarity to the upper most part of the room, it felt as if he actually did fly over our head. Yes, it was that distinct and impressive. I am not used to hearing something like that out of a soundbar and was rather impressed to see a bit of immersion coming from this soundbar. There was another scene where he swooped down to save someone and sure enough you could hear the audio become more pronounced toward the ground level as if he was coming down at the ground towards us. I would not expect anything less from Sony especially at this price point. The audio quality was superb with no drop offs to the wireless sub and all background noise and sound were heard with clarity from all corners of the room no matter where you sat. The crunching of metal as cars slammed together could be felt via the bass from the sub. The bass was loud enough to be felt but never enough to take away from the back ground noise of metal bending and crinkling together from the sound of a car wreck. There are a few preset sound modes that come equipped that i would like to touch on a bit. You have Cinema mode, which puts an emphasis on deep rich sounds for better immersion. Music mode, which focuses more on vocals and instruments. News and Sports mode are very similar in the fact that they put more attention to the commentary's voice and less on the background noise. Game mode is very similar to cinema mode in the fact that if puts emphasis on deep rich sounds but adds to a greater attention to background noises which help give depth and distance to what is going on in the game. This mode is actually really cool for all you gamers out there who are looking for a deeper immersion to go with that 4k gaming you may be doing. I just recently bought God of War and was playing it on my PS4 Pro will listening to it via my Sony soundbar on game mode. There was a part where i was walking down a open corridor and didn't realize i was about to be flanked by an npc from my right side. The only reason i was able to turn around in time and counter the attack was because i was able to distinctly make out some distant footsteps that where slowly getting louder as they were creeping up on me from behind. Man, i was impressed on just how much of every little detail like that this mode picks up on or the fact that the soundbar was able to deliver that kind of immersion and sound quality. Now for you music lovers out there music mode will not leave you hanging. Don't have a big audio set up? No worries because the Sony X9000F does an awesome job of delivering sound quality that you would expect from a Sony product. While listening to some Tupac "All Eyes on Me" vocals were heard crystal clear along with all my mids. The punch of the sub was nice and deep but never hit so hard as to over power my vocals or percussion. Sound quality was crystal clear with no static or feedback and left me almost feeling as if i was listening to a 5.1 set up. All in all this is a Sony product, which should bring you piece of mind knowing that you are going to always get quality audio sound. This is a soundbar that is not very A-typical of most soundbars that i have seen in the past as far as functionality goes which is a good thing. The Sony Soundbar is a Hi-Def set up that will even try to upscale non 4k audio so you can watch all those 90's sitcoms with an up scaled audio version. The different audio modes offer a variety that should be able to suit your needs whatever they may call for. With very many pluses and really no cons that i can see at least as of writing this, it should be a no brainer as to rather or not you should buy this. If you are looking for a true surround immersion than this is not for you as nothing tops a 7.1 set up. However with the ability to expand in to that set up, this makes the Sony soundbar all the more versatile for whatever your future needs may be.
