For some time, I was thinking about upgrading my Sony 60 inch TV with a soundbar. Enter, the Sony HT-X9000F. Overall impression: AWESOME. This soundbar was a snap to hook-up. Super easy installation and set up instructions. Comprehensive owners manual and a start up guide written in plain English, that will get you up and running in a few short minutes. If your smart TV has an HDMI ARC input jack your all set. No other cables are needed. If you set does not have this jack, you will need to purchase an Optical Digital Cable in order to utilize this product. Once connected you just fire up the TV and it works. The paring (connection) to the Subwoofer was automatic. NICE! Sound quality you may ask. Fasten your seat belts, as you will experience some sweet sounding surroundsound,. Sound immerses you from every direction. The soundbar has several sound mode settings for your listening pleasure, such as cinema, music, game, news, sports, and of course the standard setting. The sound is clean and crisp. You will have fun trying each setting and you will be able to quickly decide on your favorite one. I purposely did not bore you with specifications of the soundbar, as I believe that once you hear and immerse yourself with the awesome sound of the Sony soundbar you'll be hooked. This product is definitely on my highly recommended list. Amazing.

Solid choice for movies and games

I am very pleased with the sound quality, and setup ease, of this soundbar. I was previously using a Sony amp and a pair of Sony floor speakers, to provide audio for my TV. I was able to get plenty of volume, but it wasn’t a great setup for shows with dialogue, or games where ambient sounds are important. The first thing I noticed with this setup, was the clarity of the mids & highs. They aren’t muffled, or drowned out by the bass, as floor speakers tend to do w/out an EQ. I also like the fact that there is a separate volume adjustment for the subwoofer. My only complaint is an inability to tie the soundbar in with the amp & floor speakers. There are times when I would like to sound delivered through both setups (like when playing Rock Band with the kids), but I’m not able to do so. At least I haven’t found a way described in the manual. The sound isn’t completely enveloping for music. Picture it like a clock-face. You’re sitting at 6 o’clock, facing the soundbar at 12 o’clock. There is a bit of a dead zone at 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock. Not noticeable with games or movies, but you can tell with music.

I was told by the Sony rep that this soundbar was compatible with my 7 year old tv. After repeated attempts to set it up I actually did some research and discovered that this particular sound bar was not compatible with my tv.

The sound bar that is supposed to connect to the Sony TV is practically useless. It continues to quit working randomly and Sony is no help. Do not waste your money on this or any Sony product.

Hi Leebo, we're sorry to hear that you have an issue with your SONY unit. If your soundbar is connected to your Sony TV via HDMI, please check the Bravia Sync function on your TV. You will need to clear any previous devices on the TV (see TV manual for instructions). Then remove and reconnect the HDMI cable from the TV and soundbar to reset the connection. You can then check on the TV's Bravia Sync settings to see if the soundbar is detected. You may need to manually add it.

Also, please ensure HDMI controls are enabled on the soundbar too. You can verify this in your soundbar by pressing HOME on the remote and entering Setup. From there, select Advanced settings and then HDMI Settings. Control for HDMI should be set to on. For some reason, and using it with our brand new Sony tv, it just would not sync the words to the mouth movements. Very distracting, so returned it.

Nice Upgrade from a TV Internal Speaker

I've had the soundbar system for about a week now, and I have been happy with it. I am using it with my TCL Roku 4k TV in the bedroom, and the soundbar is much better than the sound from the TV internal speaker. The wireless subwoofer supplies the much-needed low frequency effects that the internal TV speaker is lacking. It is plenty loud and the sound fills the room very well. It makes watching movies and playing video games so much more immersive. The soundbar was easy to setup through the HDMI ARC input on my TV. The audio can also be output from the soundbar through a digital optical audio Toslink cable, but you will still have to connect a HDMI cable to be able to access the soundbar system menus. The soundbar system has Bluetooth connectivity which is a nice feature that I use to stream music from my iPhone to the soundbar. Overall, the HT-X9000F is recommended, and delivers a nice upgrade over the sound coming from a TV internal speaker.

This was an upgrade to an older model and I was able to instantly hear a difference. The highs and mids are clearer and the bass is booming. Since I live in an apartment, I cannot make any permanent modifications to the place. Having a sound bar like this is the next best thing to true surround sound. The audio quality is exponentially better than the TV speakers and the install is pretty clean. This new bar has Bluetooth connectivity so it will play audio from my phone or smart speaker in addition to providing excellent quality sound from my TV. The Bluetooth feature also gives on screen info and the sound bar remote has playback control. Whether using the digital or analog inputs, the sound is great. Since I have vaulted ceilings, I am not sure how well the vertical sound feature truly is. At times, it sounds amazing and at other times, it sounds like I am listening in a can. So I mostly leave that feature turned off but I am still really happy. My only request would be to have a digital coaxial input in addition to a digital optical. Obviously HDMI is the easiest option but not everyone has HDMI with ARC. Last but not least, this bar is much heavier than my old one because the brains are in the bar instead of the subwoofer. I was not able to mount it above my TV like the old one because it was making my TV too top heavy on its stand. It is best if you can secure this bar to the wall, mount it below the TV, or set it on a table. But by having the brains in the bar, this has a much cleaner install than the old model because there are much fewer wires running everywhere.
