Sony Soundbar with sub-woofer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Sony soundbar almost 4 years ago, and I love it. I have always bought Sony TVs, so it seemed a no-brainer to purchase the Sony soundbar; I was not disappointed. The sound quality is a testament to the high-quality standards held by Sony

Makes Movie Night Exciting!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've honestly and quite literally have had a BLAST watching movies and playing video games with this Sony sound system. I unboxed it and had it hooked up to my 75 inch Sony Bravia 4K TV in about 5 minutes. Sony provides you with a quick start guide to walk you through it, and an HDMI cable to get you up and running. Ill start with the cons about this sound system. I've only have 2 gripes with it, Firstly - the soundbar has no digital display on it to show you most of the settings. It is hard to tell if you have toggled on or toggled off a profile or the vertical surround. There is small led lights that will blink accordingly to different button presses. I wish it had a small screen to show you what volume you're at, what sound profile you have active, etc etc.I have to mention though, whichever HDMI input you have connected your soundbar to will show an onscreen menu to assist you and show you menu scrolls and adjustments. I wish it would show it on every HDMI input though. My second gripe with this soundbar is that when watching TV through the set top cable box, there is a noticeable lag between the picture and audio. It seems to happen on channels that aren't quite full HD, and of lower quality / resolution. The controller does give you the option of adjusting the sound up or down in millisecond increments so that you can try and get the audio/video more in sync but going back to the lack of the screen on the soundbar.. it is hard to tell if you've adjusted up or down and by how much. I gave up trying to perfect it. I left it a little off. On some channels, i'll see the mouths move or an explosion and ill hear the sound a split second later. It can be annoying sometimes. I think it has to do with the fact that the soundbar is connected through an HDMI cable. You do have the option of using an optical audio cable or bluetooth connection but if you want to take advantage of the Dolby Atmos surround sound, the soundbar MUST be connected with the HDMI cable. The soundbar only has 1 HDMI in and 1 HDMI out port. It would also be nice if it had at least 1 other HDMI out port. I connected it to an XBOX ONE and this is where the soundbar has shined. I spent the whole day watching movies that support Dolby Atmos, I was excited to sit there and watch movies all day. There is a noticeable boost in sound quality and volume when you are using Atmos. You feel the explosions, you hear the dirt falling to the ground, when the screen shakes, you feel it. It is an immersive experience, and I love it! It really is like being at the movie theater. Ive never been a big fan of "virtual surround sound" but Sony pulls it off with this sound system. You can hear and literally feel the difference when you activate the vertical surround sound. Every sound comes in nice and clear. Voices do not get over powered by explosions or music, and the lows / bass do not distort or drown out everything else even when the subwoofer is at its max volume. I'm a big movie buff and i frequently attend movies for the experience and this sound bar most definitely brings the experience to the comfort of your own living room.

Amazing sound quality!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always been a fan of Sony. They have high quality sound systems and TV's. Before getting this sound bar I was previously using another Sony sound bar. I was complete amazed by this system. The Sub woofer was a lot bigger than my previous one. I used HDMI to connect it through an ARC port through my TV. This sound bar has an extra HDMI so that you don't lose one on your TV by plugging in the sound bar. It also has an HDMI cable Included which is a huge bonus. While it was connected through the ARC port I was able to use my TV remote and even my Apple TV remote to control the volume and power. I really like this feature because it removed the need to always use another remote to control sound. The sound is amazing. You are able to get surround sound without a million speakers mounted around the room. This is a much needed product to take your entertainment system to the next level.

Great sound. Wonderful experience
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. All in all this sound bar is a pretty one. The sound is solid and the set up is a breeze. When i first opened up the sound bar i notice how easy it was to hang. A few screw and it was up. Its relatively light weight, but packed a punch. The one thing, design wise that i did not completely like, was the woofer. It looks like a PC tower, no bells or whistles about it. Looks aside, it does however throw out some major thump. A second area of design that i really liked was the indicators of where plug in and controls are located. Example, on other electronics i own, it was not clearly market where volume controls are located or which port equals HDMI 1 and which port was HDMI 2. That was a nice touche. Overall, light weight, easy to install, great sound and good functional indicators. Great item!

Decent Soundbar with Bare Min Connectivity Options
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony HT-X9000F is a sleek looking two channel soundbar with a wireless subwoofer. It's relatively compact by comparison to competitors, so great if you're space constrained. Lookwise, it looks good but not a standout. I think the design is meant to be paired with a line of Sony TVs which probably complement each other in the looks field and form a nice total package. Still, I'd say this is a great sound bar system, whether you have a Sony TV or not. Inputs are 2 HDMI, one with ARC, Bluetooth, and USB. Having the HDMI ARC input is key for anyone who has any other AV input other than their TV. For example, this allows a DVD player to send content through the soundbar to the TV (via it's own HDMI connection) with audio returning on TV's HDMI ARC, rather than requiring a separate audio input on the soundbar (which doesn't exist). Of course, this isn't a true audio receiver, so one shouldn't expect much in terms of large number of connections, but it would be nice to have more inputs. Bluetooth is nice for pairing to a phone or TV, though it's not necessarily a feature many TVs or other AV sources have to export audio. The USB allows for standalone playback of music, but it seems one is limited on the supported music formats. The soundbar remote continues the lackluster looks but provides you with a solid amount of control. There are several different sound modes which do a good job covering different sound profiles like movies, sports, and gaming. The sports mode is the one that emphasizes voices - it didn't have a button specifically labeled for voice which would have been better, it's a bit strange having to hit sport to get good sound on some really bassy movie scenes. Still, the different modes do output sound differently and allow you to customize things to fit your ear. In short, this is a decent soundbar. It gets the job done but is lacking in some areas.

As close to a full sound system as you can get
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off let me say that if you are looking to create a theater in your house experience, a soundbar is not for you…no sound bar is. You need to be looking at stereo receivers, tower speakers, and big powered subwoofers. No 2.1 soundbar is going to replicate the amazing sound signatures and thundering bass that a proper 7.1 home theater system provides. So why would you want a sound bar then? Three reasons: Space, Aesthetics, and Price. If you can’t do a complete system…this Sony sound bar is your next best thing. It has support for all the latest specs in the industry: 4K, HDR-10, HLG, Dolby Vision, Atmos, DTS-X, Bluetooth, and USB. It’s designed to seamlessly work with Sony Bravia TVs. I don’t have a Bravia so I can’t comment on that integration but it doesn’t seem to have any issues with the TV I have it connected to. It has HDMi support! I would never consider a sound bar without HDMI and ARC support. It’s just too convenient. With it you can control the sound with your TVs or device’s remote (if your TV supports HDMI-CEC and most do). And with ARC your TV can send audio back to the soundbar on the same HDMI cable that sends the soundbar audio to the TV. It means you don’t have to switch inputs on the soundbar or TV when you want to switch from your Apple TV to Playstation 4 for example. Sound Quality: It’s pretty impressive how sound engineers are able to create these sound bars that somehow fill big rooms. If all you have is your TV speakers you will be instantly wow’d when you plug in this unit. The subwoofer automatically pairs to the bar out of the box so setup is as simple as plug it in and connect your HDMI cable(s). The “Vertical Sound” feature simulates a 7.1 experience by adding “height” to your sound. After experimenting with it I do find that it adds a more “cinematic” feel to movies that I played. It gets even better if you play from a source that is Dolby Atmos such as a 4K bluray or Vudu 4K. Wow. The sub is actually pretty impressive for what comes with a sound bar. After setting up, I was in another room and kept hearing a bit of rumble and thought someone was playing a movie upstairs in my media room (which has a monstrous sub) but no, in fact it was sound coming from my new Sony soundbar! I never was able to hear the bass from my old soundbar/sub combo in another room. And, if you think the sub is too much or too little, there is a separate volume control for the sub on the remote that comes included with the unit. Pros: Is wall mountable Vertical Sound Feature Good Volume / separate sub volume HDMI CEC support 4K - Atmos Bluetooth Wireless subwoofer Optical Input Cons: Pricey Overall, this is an excellent enhancement to any room’s sound.

Amazing Sound, it's like being in a theater
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Reviewing a Home Theater system is hard, because I can't upload the audio and an image won't do justice. So I'll share the experience. Hooking up the SONY was simple and we put on a movie. The moment the audio came through we all broke into a smile. You know the one, where you're just like WOW this is A-MA-ZING. Other things you should know... The subwoofer is wireless and paired instantly I didn't have to do anything. I have it positioned next to the system but you can separate them. The soundbar is wall mountable (according to the instructions). There are also several "sound" modes from the Vertical Sound which creates the illusion of being in a theater to cinema, game, news, sport. The only reason why I give this 4 not 5 stars is there's no display on the actual unit. It outputs the settings to your TV - which is OK if you're using HDMI to connect. But I use optical audio, so you don't know what settings or level the volume is out. I am surprised SONY got rid of the display as less advanced version has one. But that's a minor complaint as most people are not like me with 10 devices connected via HDMI using a HDMI switch. If you want a genuine Theater experience at home, you can't go wrojng with this unit. Impressed and Recommended.

Yes
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolutely love this soundbar. Admittedly, I wasn't too sure about soundbars in general. This changed my mind. For me, audio quality is important, but the real practical test is whether or not there is any distortion or change when you crank up to that sweet max volume. This did not have any of that. The soundbar fills up the room very well with clean and crisp audio. I'm a believer of soundbars now. It really is nice to have one speaker for your sound. Yes there are cheaper options for louder sound. However, for the quality that you're getting, I do think that this is the best bang for your buck. It looks great and should be a great addition to any home audio system.

Incredible
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am using this Sony soundbar&subwoofer with my TCL 4K tv and it is so amazing the sound it puts out. Surround sound is so rich, and feels like it is all over the room. Also my xbox is now so much better and enjoyable to play. I had very minor issues with setup, on TCL-roku tv I had to youtube how to get sound to work with netflix etc and be able to utilize just the tv remote but after watching a youtube video on setting up a soundbar with TCL it works flawlessly. Btw the subwoofer sounds amazing and connected automaticallly on the first try as well. Very very impressed!

Great sound when properly connected
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first sound system for a TV that I purchased. I hooked it up via HDMI Arc, and hooked it up to HDMI arc port 3. That is the way to utilize the DTX/Atmos feature through the sound bar. I hooked up my Xbox one S to the sound bar to use the Atmos from 4k Xbox content such as UHD, Netflix, gaming etc. The system with Arc HDMI does allow 4k HDR pass through. You have to activate in the HDMI setting in the sound bar settings area to get that compliant HDR 4k passthrough. Make sure also to activate the HDMI ports on your tv, if you do not you will not get the 4k/HDR that you should get. After getting everything set up properly, hardware, and settings wise, went on YouTube to check out some Atmos demos. Beautiful 3D sound! I was impressed that such a small sound bar could output loud, clear 3D armos sound, with great bass through the sub. The key to getting great sound is to use HDMI, and make sure the ports are set correct! The sound playing games, watching a UHD, or streaming is great!

Easy to setup with HDMI ARC
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The soundbar is simple to set up. I like that the HDMI cable and remote batteries are included. To set it up, you simply connect the HDMI ARC to your tv HDMI ARC (if you have an ARC connection), optionally plug in an HDMI device to the soundbar, and then plug in the power. The subwoofer is wireless and connected after turning on the soundbar. The profile of the soundbar is very low, which is great to have sitting in front of a tv and not obscuring anything. I’m using this with a Roku TV and no other connections, and the HDMI ARC is great. I can use the TV remote for volume controls and rarely need to use the soundbar remote. For example, you would need the soundbar remote to adjust the subwoofer volume or change sound profiles. I’ve also used the soundbar with a TV that supports Dolby Atmos, and honestly I didn’t hear any significant difference. The soundbar doesn’t have up-firing speakers, so I think you’d have to add additional speakers to get true Atmos sound. The sound bar does have great range and volume, and the vertical effects do add something (although I think it adds more depth to the sound, not an actual vertical effect). I would recommend that you try this soundbar, and maybe a lower priced option, and see which you think is best. I’m just not sure the additional features add enough value for me.

Not Too Impressed by this Premium Soundbar
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is really 2.5 stars. Let me start this off by saying, while not an audiophile, I care about how things sound. I've been through enough different sound types in my life to figure out what sounds good, overall, and think I have some judgement in the matter. I also believe Sony makes excellent sound products, from their standalone speakers, to their headphones. I'm a Sony believer. But the Sony HT-X9000F soundbar did not do it for me. It provided excellent sound and bass for music based applications, but when turned on for TV and movie based content, fell quite short in my opinion. Let's start off with the good. The soundbar and wireless subwoofer look and feel quality. Right when you pick the box up, the weight is there. The soundbar itself looks good with any TV, and is specifically made for the Sony line of TV's, pairing well, aesthetically, with their lineup. In terms of setup, this thing might be the easiest product I've setup in a while. Plug in two HDMI ports, and then your done. The instructions make it very easy to not miss a step. Once it's hooked up you can plug in the wireless sub. If all goes well (and it should) it will just connect instantly to the soundbar, no issues. Mine did and that was great. Once all setup, I was pumped to take this baby for a spin. Now, coming from a full 5.1 speaker setup in my living room, I wasn't expecting it to sound as good as that. Of course, it didn't. But I found that, even when compared to other soundbars, the coveted vertical sound mode didn't do justice to any content out there, and the Cinema mode fell quite short. Overall, the sound was too high, and muffled. The mid-range areas, to me, were basically non-existent. This means that the overall warmness and life-like nature of the sound won't be apparent. Everything sounded "tingy", like the highs were turned way up. Voices were often muffled by other sounds, especially with Vertical Sound mode enabled. I was fully ready to accept Vertical Sound, but it did not sound good to me. I could hear it working, at times, with certain effects zooming overhead watching Star Wars:VII, or on Netflix with Dolby Atmos in Altered Carbon. The sound was trying to be immersive, but never drew me in. Even though it is capable of producing the simulated 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos and DTS:X sound profiles, I didn't feel they added much, if anything, to the soundbar itself. The sound felt more real, as sound could be heard around you, but it wasn't good enough to truly buy into, at least for me. The bright side of the sound was the music mode and subwoofer. Sony got those completely right. The sub packs a punch, and really produces some good low notes. Music seemed very balanced throughout, and gave a certain richness that wasn't found with any of the other modes with any other content. So, overall I really wasn't blown away. While I never had any issues with software or hardware not working, such as the 4K HDR pass-through, stuff not pairing, etc., the overall sound quality was diminishing. I believe that the upgraded version, the Z9F, could probably sound better because it is a 3.1 system vs the 2.1 found here. It was easy to use, and displayed settings on the TV, which was nice, but the aforementioned gripes really hold it back in my opinion. The fact that you can't add the wireless rear speakers like the Z9F also, to me, take the rating down. To me, this soundbar misses the mark. I wanted to love it, but couldn't bring myself to do it.

Surprising sound for such a small package
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I mounted this under my flat-screen TV that has the rear firing speakers. The sounds was lackluster at best. Once I connected this speaker up, and there are a number of ways including HDMI! Yes, you can plug your source into the speaker and the speaker into the TV as long as you have an HDMI port labeled ARC. I went with this and have to say the system sounds amazing. Now the bonus is that the sub is wireless, except for power. Once I found the right location and worked out the connections my TV has never sounded better. This is a great alternative to buying a receiver and speakers especially if you are limited on space. The TV I hooked it up to is in a bar area that just didn't have the space for full on audio equipment. I can also Bluetooth my phone to the speaker to listen to music so another win! It also does not take up much space and was VERY easy to mount. It came with a full template so you know exactly where to put the mounting screws.

An expericence enhancer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recieved this product through the Best Buy Tech Insider Program. For the longest time, I've always wanted a soundbar setup but could never pull the trigger. Luckily, I recieved this from Bestbuy and am in love. The best part is that it's from my favorite brand, Sony, who I trust to bring the top of the line home entertainment products and experiences. Setup was so simple. 1. Plug in Soundbar and connect to HDMI 3 (ARC) port 2. Connect the Subwoofer through the SecureLink option in the setup menu. 3. Turn off TV speakers through your TVs setup menus. 4. Tune the distance and soundlevels of the Soundbar and Subwoofer to your preference. 5. Enjoy It made my experience watching movies, sports, playing videogames just that more exciting.
