Got this for my Sony 4K TV. The TV is set high up on the wall, and the volume was had to hear unless it was blasted The sounder was very easy to install and both the sounder & sub connected easily bluetooth to the TV Now whenever the TV comes on, the external speakers start and connect automatically My only wish is that I installed the sounder directly under the TV (3" gap) so no wires would be visible

Great for an upgraded sound field experience.

I bought this for my father who is older and doesn't need or want the tweaking hassle of a full home theater setup, but needed to replace an aging 2.1 setup. Pros: Super simple setup. Ran a HDMI cable from his new UBP-x700 UHD player to the sound bar, ran a HDMI cable to the TVs ARC input and done. UHD player takes over the picture when turned on, and everything switches right back to the Direct TV signal when I power off the player. Easy-peasy. Auto sound selection does a pretty good job of correctly identifying the incoming programming and applying the correct sound field. There are individual buttons to force a specific sound field if you wish to experiment. Sound bar correctly decodes Dolby Atmos and DTS:X formats and attempts to create an immersive sound field. Look, this isn't going to replace a dedicated HT setup, but there's definitely some good ear-trickery going on here. This is great for what it is and I'm seriously considering getting my own for our master bedroom. Bass has some decent thump to it, but rolls off on heavy and deep bass movies. I doubt you'd ever notice a problem with network TV Broadcasts though. Cons: The sound bar correctly goes into standby mode when I turn off the TV, but won't wake up when the TV is turned on, so I have to turn it back on manually with the remote. Additionally, the remote can't be programmed to turn on a TV, so I still have to use the TV remote for that one button to do that job. Overall, I highly recommend this item as a massive upgrade over built-in TV speakers and it's great for those that don't want to fiddle with a full home theater set up. At the $400 holiday price, this is a steal. The manual does say it can appropriately pass thru 4k to the TV using the enhanced HDMI features in the advanced setup menu, but my father still is happy with his 1080P Samsung LCD, so I couldn't adequately test for HDR or Dolby Vision functionality.

really sounds great , but the lack of instant turn on sadly is very bad...wait 10 plus seconds for sound ? we wish something was told to US would never purchased this if we were told would be this long to warm up like 50-60 TV's with picture tubes where... this is sad Sony would take step backs wards instead forwards ...

    Decent sound but consistent lag

I purchased this sound bar to use with a new Sony XBR65X850F 4K HDR TV since the tv speakers lack great sound alone. While the soundbar adds a lot of good sound, there is significant lag between sound and picture. The only adjustment is positive which only makes the lag worse. I believe it could be improved with a negative adjustment feature as well. Will probably be returning the sound bar if I can't figure a fix for the lag problem.

Audio is flatter than my TV

I was excited to get this in my house after some demos at BestBuy. Obviously they cater what audio demos they play. When I got home I did get SOME bass, but only after cranking the woofer up to 11. TV or movie dialogue or even music is left completely and utterly flat. I'm taki g this back tomorrow morning for the 3.1 Channel Polk set up. For $600 there is zero reason ky LED TV's stock audio should sound better than the soundbar. Poor performance at high price. Be cautious.

I bought the sony a8g and this soundbar together. It has been working very well and sounds great for the past 8 months, but recently i unplugged the hdmi cable, when i plugged it back in it wont connect to the tv, or the tv wont recognize it. If it happens to be an easy fix i will gladly give this 5 stars.

    rip off

this horrible overpriced piece of crap might just be the biggest rip off I’ve ever encountered in my life. even after raising the decibel levels of both the sound bar and the subwoofer this thing still sounds like a broken kitchen radio with extremely weak bass. The vertical virtual Dolby Atmos crap is a laughable joke. I seriously can’t believe that Sony is trying to sell this for at least $500 on sale. I’ve never left a review on BestBuy.com but the ridiculously horrible quality of this sound bar needs to be addressed so people know before they waste their money and time.

Its ok better than alot of sound bars but alittle pricey, it would be nice in a small room but if your looking for more upgrade so you can add more speakers in the future.

Does not work out of the box as it should with a Sony TV. I connected multiple systems in my life, but this one is not working right. I cannot get it to work with any apps (e.g. Netflix) when any TV station is on. I will be honest, I've read the manuals, but I have not watched any youtubes or done much research to troubleshoot. I will get to it when I have time, but I should not have to do that, nor does an average user. The soundbar defaults to playing sound from the TV station and not what's on a screen, so it's useless for anything but the broadcast TV without extra troubleshooting.
