Not sure it’s an improvement over my TV speakers
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was pretty excited to get this sound bar by Sony, mainly because it’s the perfect size for a bedroom and seemed pretty promising given my usual experiences with the brand. The device is very simple to set up and includes an optical cable should you need it. It also supports HDMI/ARC configuration which I have not yet tested since no cable was included. An advantage to this setup is that volume is controlled by the TV - meaning one less remote. I ran a variety of sources through the sound bar to gauge audio performance and where i found it fell short is on TV shows with a lot of dialogue. Voices were actually less clear than my TV speakers, and I found myself wanting to switch back to them. I played with the various EQ settings via the remote and just couldn’t find a way to make them sound any better. For music the device is pretty good for this size. It offers a bass boost functionality that fills in the audio using a downward firing “subwoofer” - my hand is bigger than this speaker so i struggle with the use of that terminology a bit. It also supports Bluetooth and can serve as a great alternative for playing music off your phone with decent quality. Overall i feel like this one might end up back in the box if i can’t find a way to make voices sound more coherent.

Marginal at best
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I connect my soundbar to my Element Roku TV via an HDMI cable, however I think because the audio amp in my TV sucks, it cascades out of the soundbar. Garbage in = Garbage out. This is why I think that my soundbar could be better, but having not tested it on any other TV in my home because trying to get any of the wiring behind my TV stand is literally a PITA. The last I remember playing music via Bluetooth from my phone, it sounded great, so I’m not sure I could recommend it because there are better options out there, but given the audio output on my TV without the soundbar is terrible, by terrible, I have the TV at 50% of it’s volume level and the soundbar only marginally makes the TV sound better.

Posted .Hi Greg,
We appreciate your feedback and we are sorry to hear that you are having a sound quality issue when your soundbar is connected to your Roku TV. This is definitely not the customer experience we want you to have. Please make sure to update the firmware of your soundbar to improve its performance and resolve any possible software-related issues: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/ht-s200f/downloads/W0011466. Check that all the cables and cords of the system and the connected device are firmly inserted. You can also use a different high-speed HDMI cable. We can further isolate the issue by connect your soundbar to a different TV or devices via HDMI cable.
We take all user input seriously and will make sure your comments reach the appropriate person. Should you need further assistance, you can email us at socialsupport@am.sony.com.
Thank you for choosing Sony!

Nice little bar for a bedroom
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, I like this bar. It works great for my bedroom, especially since I am in an apartment and I have to be considerate of my neighbors. It has a night mode, like other Sony bars, which reduces bass and makes the sound a little more compressed yet clear for watching a late night movie without disturbing others. When in its normal mode, the highs and mids are excellent. Bass is lacking. I feel like it should be called 2.0, not 2.1. Since the speakers are set pretty close together, it is a bit difficult to discern right from left. My brain occasionally picks up a difference but hears a "center" channel more than anything else. With that being said, it is still MUCH better than my TV's built in speakers. I experimented with the optical, HDMI, and Bluetooth connections. My personal preference is the HDMI ARC because the controls fully integrate with my TV. I can use one remote to control the TV and then the TV controls the soundbar - including power. The downside to this is that the bar only has a single HDMI port. There is no passthrough like its larger siblings. Therefore, the TV loses an HDMI port to have this functionality. If HDMI ports are limited, one would need to use the fiber or Bluetooth connections. The other downside is that this bar does not have an analog input. If someone wants to connect an older TV or other equipment, they will be out of luck. Bottom line, it sounds great in a small room where people do not need or want much bass. It can only be connected to a newer TV that has HDMI ARC, optical audio out, or Bluetooth out. Last, if someone is using the HDMI option, be sure to activate the HDMI CEC option on the TV. At least for my TV, that was the trick to getting the sound to go to the bar. Prior to that, nothing would play.

Fantastic Small Space Solution
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was tired of listening to internal TV speakers, but didn't have the space in the bedroom for a large sound bar or a separate subwoofer. Enter this Sony soundbar - small and packs a punch. It fits perfectly in front of the TV on my dresser, and the internal subwoofer gives you enough bass without waking up my kids or taking up space with a separate sub. Integrates easily with HDMI ARC so no need to constantly use a separate remote for controlling the volume. Also great for listening to music. I can now make my wife happy by watching TV with her in bed. If only we could agree on something to watch.....

A Great Value in a Small Package
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Sony soundbar is a great little piece of kit. Not only is it extremely affordable, it has HDMI ARC capability and a built-in sub. I've placed this in my bedroom. It sits about 12 feet away from our listening position. It is amazing how good it sounds. I've got it hooked up via HDMI to my Sony Android TV. It turns on with the TV, and the TV remote controls the volume of the soundbar. You only need the soundbar remote if you are looking to change some of the more advanced settings. Netflix streamed via the TV, with sound running via HDMI to the HT-S200F, provides a very nice soundstage and a vast improvement over the built-in TV speakers. The little sub in the HT-S200F does a great job of adding lower end oomph, and the dialog is crystal clear. Sound effects have a great timber, with the treble coming through nicely balanced and not harsh at all. Even my wife was surprised when I was watching Altered Carbon Season 2 on Netflix and several aggressive fight scenes complete with knives, guns, and martial arts fighting were taking place. She asked, "Is all that sound coming out of that little bar?" The volume is sufficient for our needs. In a small room, this will get REALLY loud. In a bigger room like the one I have it in (15 x 20), it still has enough volume that we've not had to max it out. I highly recommend using the Cinema sound effect while watching movies. With this setting on, the HT-S200F does a great job of expanding the soundstage, adding some lower-end depth, and increasing the dynamics. The music setting is a necessity for the listening to music on Bluetooth (the bar does not have network capabilities, so if you want to use a phone it will have to be Bluetooth). I've heard soundbars that are better for listening to music, but every one of them costs substantially more than the HT-S200F. I do have one small gripe, and that is that the manual is a necessary read. I know, I know, we should always read the manual, right? But sometimes I just like being able to plug and play, have a remote that has buttons for everything, and not have to read a manual to find the hidden settings on the remote. And that is what it takes to control some of the more advanced features of the HT-S200F. Some of the buttons on the remote have to be pressed multiple times to access different settings, and if you don't have the manual with you, good luck figuring them out. Regardless, this is only a tiny issue, and not one that hurts my overall opinion of the unit. That is my experience with the HT-S200F, which was overwhelmingly positive. I highly recommend.

excellent soundbar
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Its very compact about 23 inches wide and sounds really good. Most other soundbars are 35" and are hard to fit in a small room. Very high fidelity for TV watching, the audio speech sounds real clear without having to boost the volume. The music sounds great too. It has HDMI arc(check if your TV has it) so you can control your soundbar with the TV remote and its shuts off as the TV does. This is a huge, I was so sick of my old system getting too loud during commercials and having to find the remote. Its 80 watts(2 mids one bass speaker) so its great for improving TV sound, yet not going overboard with 200 watts that I had and you'd always have to find the different remote to lower the volume. They are 5 different sound modes including a "voice" mode, it does have an auto shutoff after 20 minutes but you can enable/disable it by holding the "cinema" button for 5 seconds.

Great for bedroom & sensitive apartments
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're looking to hear the quality of a subwoofer this isn't it. But just a great size soundbar that won't take up too much space & gives sounds that's a little better than the TV, it would be ideal. Music does sound great but that's the only time I've noticed when the built-in subwoofer actually kicks in a bit. It doesn't interrupt anyone else watching TV in other rooms even when turned up to the max volume. My walls arent really sound proof. I don't use it at Max volume, it's just too loud unnecessarily. There's isn't a light or anything that shows what level you currently are for volume however when you do reach max it does flash a few times to acknowledge it will not go any further.

For the price it's a good buy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is not a high end sound bar but it does the job if you bought it for the purpose I did, which is to take the place of my TV speakers which were hard to hear. The design is nice but be very careful of what they call the bass speaker. It is uncovered on the underside and it can easily be broken. It sits nicely on a dresser with the rubber legs but the wall mounting leaves a lot to be desired (2 screws in your wall that aren't supplied) If you are looking for something with a lot of bass this is not for you. It sounds nice but it was made more as a supplement to your tv speakers or to replace them not as a home theater system.

Posted .Hi Ftpolkmp, We appreciate your feedback about your HTS200F 2.1 channel soundbar. I’d definitely recommend buying an HT-S350 soundbar. With 320 W total output and a powerful wireless subwoofer, this soundbar should provide a more powerful bass sound. -Sam

Surprisingly Good
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm surprised that a soundbar like this can make such a difference in what you watch. Voices are clearer, and all tones seem to pick up really well. It's an enhancer, whether you're watching a movie, playing a video game, or jamming to music for sure. I hope to get one for each TV, honestly.
