I put it in a small room and it sounds like an enhanced sound system. I should have spent the extra $100 or $200 fo a better product.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a Sony KDL60EX700 and Sony BluRay player so I thought this would be the perfect match. I needed something to improve the sound over the TV speakers but not as much as my 5.1 system which I never use because it's total overkill for my wife. This fit the bill perfect. I plugged it in and plugged my cable box, BluRay and PS3 into the HDMI inputs and plugged it into the HDMI-ARC port on the TV and everything just worked, no programming necessary. The sound base powered on automatically with the TV thanks to BraviaSync and automatically switched from TV speakers to the audio system and I instantly had great sound. Most importantly, I didn't have to change anything on my wife's comcast remote for her to control the volume which would have been a deal breaker. When I power up the BluRay or PS3, it automatically switches to those inputs. The only bad thing I have to say about it is that I need to manually switch back to the cable box HDMI input from the other inputs but not a big deal for me but more so for the wife. You know how remote-phobic they can be. Overall the sound is excellent and more than enough for a great movie watching experience. The bass is boomy enough to freak out my cats.

If your TV's sound is very bad

The Bose version is much better with their usual sound circuitry but at $500 it was too much for my bedroom. The sound from the Sony- meh. I totally forgot to return it now I'm stuck but I did pay $179 only- oh well

This worked for my situation. Bluetooth is a plus, also the app is cool. I would have given it 5 stars if I could control the light on the front panel and the remote was backlit. Sound is good - it's a Sony so quality is what you would expect.

Fine Substitute for Home Theater Setup

The device is solidly built and able to support the weight of up to a 55" TV. Make sure to determine the dimensions of your TV's stand as its footprint ideally should fit completely within surface area of the glass-topped sound bar. The HT-XT1 delivers fine overall sound quality, a clear improvement over the TV speakers but well short of the audio from a home theater system. The Sony HT-XT1 is a first-rate product in this middle ground, providing useful features, connectivity, convenience and good sound at a competitive price.

Very good bass, very good highs , really powerful without shaking or disstortion in highest volume!....plus very convenient as i can put my tv on top of it, that i liked very much... Looks elegant....
