Customers recognize the 200W 2.0-Ch. Stereo Receiver's excellent sound quality and ease of use, frequently praising its affordability and sufficient power. While some users wished for a dedicated phono input and improved antenna reception, the majority found the setup straightforward and the features satisfactory for their needs. Overall, the positive feedback on sound and value outweighs the relatively minor criticisms.

I bought this to replace a 20 year old Yamaha receiver that finally lost it's display. I did not need nor want a surround sound receiver, this fit the bill nicely. The Sony has clean design and is built well. I was surprised to find it has discrete output transistors, most receivers in this class use a single chip IC. It has plenty of power, does not strain on any music. No distortion either. The receiver has a nice, flat even sound. It is not overly brilliant or dull. A good set of speakers (which need to be able to take the 90 watts per channel) are all that is needed for CLEAN and FULL SPECTRUM sound without overly accentuated bass or shrill midrange.
The FM tuner has great sensitivity, and the 1/8" line in is great for connecting a computer, I-Pad or anything without using up an input. The remote will operate other Sony branded components but is not programmable for other manufacturers. No big deal, at this price point I don't expect a high end remote. It has 5 inputs but no phono pre-amp, so if you plan on using a turntable, you must use your own pre-amp or use a turntable with a built-in pre-amp.
Sony also gives a 2 year parts and labor warranty on the unit. Pretty impressive for a low cost receiver. Overall, I am pleased with this receiver. It does a superb job and is built to last. For the price paid, it packs quite a bit of performance and quality.

Another Excellent Sony Product

I bought this unit to replace an Insignia NS-R2001, and I am thrilled with the switch. The sound quality is much better, and the annoying hiss from the speakers goes away when I actually play music through it, unlike the Insignia, which had a constant hiss. Its overall build quality is great, and it features a 3.5 mm stereo input, exclusive for its class. It is also significantly smaller than the Insignia. Most of its features are a bit gimmicky, like renaming inputs, but they all work like they're supposed to. I found the default equalizer settings a little off, but after turning the treble to -2 and the bass to +5 (out of 10), that it sounded wonderful. The remote is a little confusing at first, but it is capable of controlling almost any Sony product, which could be convenient if your home theater is exclusively Sony unlike mine. It should also be mentioned that this is a 270 Watt receiver, not a 200 Watt like the description says. All in all this a great product.

After two weeks it started to turn itself off unpredictably. It wouldn't let me program radio stations. I've sent it back to Best Buy to be repaired, but I should have insisted upon a replacement. It has been three weeks, and I'm getting annoyed!!

Great basic receiver for a garage system

Bought this receiver for my garage system. I was using an ancient Realistic receiver that finally crapped out and then a Lepai LP-2020A class T mini amp, then a SMSL 36-pro class D mini amp which sounds good, but I wanted more inputs and bass/treble controls. I'm driving an old pair of 8" Cerwin Vega bookshelf speakers mounted high on the walls on each side of the garage door beaming back into the garage. I needed at least 4 inputs (for a Grace Digital Primo wi-fi receiver (for Pandora & internet radio), a CD player, TV audio, and portable devises like my MP3 player, phone or tablet). This Sony fills the bill. It's user friendly, you can re-label the inputs, it sounds good (definately seemed to improve after a few days of burn-in) and it has a small footprint. I considered the Yamaha R-S201 (same price) but some reviews mentioned it lacking bass. Anyway, I can recommend this little stereo Sony if you are looking for an inexpensive, basic receiver. It makes the old Cerwin Vegas rock again! If Sony decides to update this unit, I would recommend moving the 1/8" mini input jack to the front panel, adding a USB input on the front panel for music loaded on a flash drive and a simpler/basic remote control.

Good system but did not last even a year.

Purchased STRDH130 on December 23, 2014. On mid December 2015, the "A" channel on the "Speaker A/B switching" stopped working. Disconnected the stereo system from the power source, disconnected all speaker wires. After reconnecting the speakers and powering it back up, "Reset the system", tried different speakers and different new speaker wires. Still did not work.
Spoke with Sony Customer Service, they said I qualified for a "REPLACEMENT SYSTEM" and gave me a reference number. Twenty-four hours later after emailing Sony a copy of the receipt, I was informed by Sony VIA email that I was to ship the system to New York at my expense ($50 SHIPPING COST per the USPS; half of what I actually paid for the unit).
I purchased an electronic equipment that did not last a year and I am supposed to return/ship it at MY EXPENSE. That does not qualify as "Good Customer Service".
I have been a loyal customer for SONY products for 45 years but my future electronic purchases will not be SONY. I am extremely disappointed in SONY.
Thank you SONY Customer Service but I don't need your apologies on how bad you feel that I had to go thru this experience with a Sony Product. What I need is my STRDH130 to be made whole again at no expense to me. I paid for it once; I don't want to pay for it again.
THANK YOU and have a Merry XMAS.

My 33 year old receiver finally went South - only one channel would work and the sound was poor. Purchased this Sony after online research.
This is an excellent unit for the price.
FM reception: I live in the hills of WV and can now receive previously unknown stations. I was at first concerned that the chincy FM antennae (3 foot wire with a coax connector on one end) would not work given my rural location. I should not have worried; worked just fine.
Sound: Very good, even with my 38 year old speakers!
Controls: A bit confusing at first. The instruction manual needs to be more verbose. But after playing around with the remote, I was able to understand how to set & modify all features.
CD player: Connecting my CD/DVD player was a snap.Sound is great for my any of my CDs.
Display: I wish I could make it brighter. It can be dimmed but it is not bright enough at its brightest. I wear glasses so when moving a few feet away, I cannot read the display. But this is a minor complaint.
Overall: I would recommend this unit.
