Good Quality Versus Price

The bargain basement price of this receiver belies its quality. I imagine this receiver shares many internal components with other Sony receivers to keep the cost down.
The best thing about this receiver is that, if you lose the remote, you can still access almost all of the features needed to operate the receiver.
The unit is heavy, meaning it has a hefty power supply. The knobs and displays have a good ergonomic feel and look to them. The unit feels solid and looks good.
I did not really use the AM or FM much, but I can say the supplied FM antenna would be better replaced by the tried and true “folded dipole” of days of yore, and a balun. The FM antenna connector is a standard F connector, like on your TV or VCR.
I wondered why then tell you to disconnect the power before connecting the speakers, but modern electronics never completely shut down; they have power going to the circuits. I did follow this warning and had no problems.
I used lawn lighting 16 gauge 2 conductor wire for the speakers. The wire had a ridging for polarity. Save money; any good wire will do as well as so-called speaker wire.

I wanted to buy an economical receiver to primarily listen to AM & FM radio, and an occasional CD. It was delivered to my home in great shape, on-time. It was easy to setup and get working quickly. The reception is great, and operation is easy. I'm very satisfied with the quality of the product, especially for the price paid.

I bought this to replace a 15 year old Sony unit that had a broken circuit board. I am returning this unit today though. It works as expected but am quite disappointed in the sound quality compared to the old unit it replaced with the same speakers and same output. It is just a plain unit as a last resort. Needs more EQ settings other than just a basic bass and treble adjustment, even those didn't seem to change the sound at all. Am going to spend the money to have my old unit repaired instead. Very disappointed with Sony this time.

We were looking for a replacement for a receiver in the office that died. This went in easily and the difference it made was immediately noticeable to everyone! I would recommend it highly.

The Sony doesn’t have a few features the more expensive units have but replacing my 30+ year old Kenwood this is everything I had and more. Good value for the money spent.

This was a good deal and the Sony brand has always had decent products. The purchase was a gift for a friend and they said it has more than enough inputs and outputs for their needs.
The sound quality is good and the power per speaker is decent. The unit runs warm and requires ventilation, so don't put this in a confined space or you will end up overheating the unit and possibly wrecking the board.

Nice Basic Receiver

This is a good basic AM/FM receiver. The unit is solid and the display is decent. The 3.5 mini input jack is a nice feature, although I wish it were on the front panel instead of the rear panel. The power is good for a basic receiver. It is actually 270 watts, not 200 watts as listed.

I brought this item to replace an older Sony receiver that lasted me 17 years. The instructions are clear and set up was a breeze. I also renamed my inputs and that was a breeze. I use this unit in my basement when I am on my treadmill and streaming movies from Netlix. All I can say is this unit is good to go.

First off, $99.99 for this stereo receiver is a great deal. And this is quality. Heavy power supply. Huge caps and discrete output transistors. And a FULL 20hz-20,000khz response with 100db S/N amplifier. This means it's quiet and clear. Will drive 8 ohm mass market speakers with ease as well as home brew enclosures using 4 ohm car speakers without overheating.
VERY Sensitive tuner. 60 preset memories! I live in a major metro area and with the supplied wire antenna I get all the local stations I like. This has all the basics needed for a good 2 channel stereo system.
I don't like multi-channel sound systems, it is too distracting for me. This is perfect. Although the remote control is busy with many buttons it is easy to learn and use.
WAY better than the comparable Insignia model. And at the same price.
I find it very useful to name station presets as well as source inputs that way I know what my station and source is. Also in the setup is FM tuner sensitivity. You can choose between local or distant and set the sensitivity for each preset. AM comes in loud and clear as well.
Good price Best Buy and Good Job Sony, I bought 2 of these that I will enjoy for years to come.

I've had the unit for about a month. I purchased it/picked up at store on a Sat/paid $149. The next weeks flyer had it on sale for $129. I contacted Service and with the 14 day price guarantee was credited for the difference. Great service. Amp works well. Will accept a turntable into the aux input as long as it has a line out preamp. Running tv audio through input for home theater. I use a/b speaker set up with a sound bar for center channel..

Own a Bose Solo home theater so didn't need anything except a receiver, they aren't easy to find anymore. Just got this one hooked up today but very pleased so far. Glad they sill make something that you don't need a degree in electronics to hook-up and operate. Hope it lasts as long as my last Yamaha 25+ yrs. and still kicking.

I needed a basic stereo receiver for my office so I purchased this receiver. It run inputs from a laptop, a desktop, AM/FM, and portable devices, along with 3 unused inputs. FM reception is good for local stations, but you can't scan distant stations - no direct FM tuning. Lousy design in my opinion.

I have been wanting to get rid of my surround sound receiver for quite some time. I am only using two high end bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer, and the surround receiver just didn't put enough power to them.
This receiver solved my problem. It puts out a LOT of clean power to my stereo set up. I had it cranked for music (sounds beautiful) and for TV (Stanley Cup Finals), everything sounded great.
This is a budget receiver but the quality far surpasses the cost.

Bought refurbished for my vacation home garage from Newegg for $75 (including tax/shipping) powering Polk T-15 bookshelf speakers with cd, cassette & occasional Ipod use. Have to unplug/replug when sitting unused for a couple of weeks (Sony offers updated programming to rectify) but no problem as I only visit every few weeks. FM needs after market antenna - I used rabbit ears with good results. Happy with purchase.

My old receiver stopped working so I was looking for an inexpensive replacement. I mainly only use it to play CDs and to listen to the radio. I live in a condo so I didn't need tons of wattage. I set it up a few days ago and it's been perfect. I have good speakers so the sound is great, and the included AM/FM antennas give it decent reception. I was looking for a good, fairly inexpensive, basic receiver and this is it.

Started out with the wrong kind of receiver. Was looking for something to play music only and ended up being talked into buying HD surround sound set up. Was not happy and took it back. Best Buy then set me up with the manager of that department and he showed me what I needed. This receiver has worked beautifully and was a breeze to set up.

This is perfect for a smaller home theater or home audio system that could use two speaker zones. The price was just perfect for this model as it totally fits my need/use. Loving it. The remote is typical Sony Audio so its so-so, however I'll get used to it or tie it to my universal remote.
