Excellent for gaming, Advised to by employee

Warning:Requires proper settings set up to fully optimize visuals and performance, my review is after proper set up. This TV is excellent for gaming. It has a high refresh rate and blurs much less in motion than a normal 60ghz TV (Ex: Call of Duty Advanced Warfare). The colors and clarity are outstanding. Common ghosting problems are virtually non existent (Ex: The Last of Us). I am very satisfied that this TV has a lot of very helpful and effective optimization settings. Credits to Best Buy- I got an Insignia TV that claimed to be good for gaming, online, and it was terrible. Very blurry in motion, very bad ghosting in some games, almost no optimization settings. I returned it and a Best Buy specialist heard what I needed and gave me some options and proper recommendations pointing me at this TV in particular . Very satisfied with TV and the great customer advisory.

Whole New TV Experience, Fantastic Support

If you are still watching TV on a non-HD TV-stop. Its a whole new experience for us and we are very pleased with this Sony. We chose Sony for the true color and reputation. We are completely satisfied with the picture quality. Made zero adjustments and the picture seems amazing to us regardless of source. Sound is fine for our purposes but we have noticed time when voice channels are overridden by other sound channels. It helped significantly when I turned off the "sports" sound option. The crowd noise was overtaking the commentary. The set worked great without any adjustments right out of the box. The wireless access to our internet connection was easy. Because real men don't read user guides and I had a question or 2, I called the 800 number on the manual for help twice. Both times the help was absolutely fantastic. It blew me away that I was actually able to get through to a knowledgeable person who really wanted to help and really knew his/her stuff. Hat's off to Sony!

Bought for my mom for her birthday. TV has a ton of apps!! Is very easy to set up and the picture quality is amazing. In my opinion it compares to the samsung 6350 but at a fraction of the cost.

Good tv, with a slow interface

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I will start off by saying that I no longer have this tv, as I returned it, but before getting to that, let's talk about the good stuff. The picture on this tv is amazing, probably the best I've seen on a 40in display. It has good viewing angles and color reproduction. It was also pretty easy to set up and the stand is pretty straight forward. It has 4 HDMI ports, which is good, the sound is also on par with other tvs around its price range. Now, the reason I returned it. It's smart tv interface. Now, it's not exactly slow, but I had noticed it would be sluggish at time. It would take longer to load apps than I would like, and I would have to wait a bit every time I turned the tv on to be able to use the apps. I also noticed a weird color shift when deep blacks were shown on the screen, it would be a flickering as if the screen was constantly trying to adjust the black contrast. Now, if it were just one out of the two of these problems, I would undoubtedly keep the tv, but both together were a bit annoying, returned it for an LG (sad thing is, the LG is 4k and the Sony STILL has it beat in picture clarity). Anyway, good tv overall.

    Best TV

Last June 2015, I purchased a SONY Bravia (40") TV from Best Buy. I decided to go there after calling and realizing that their staff had excellent product knowledge. In fact, I went out that same afternoon and purchased it from the salesman that explained the products on the phone. Throughout last summer and the fall storm season, I have not had any interruption or problems with it. I am 62 and set it up by myself. It was easy to adapt to. The color is beautifully saturated. I am now in the market for a speaker bar and will go back to Best Buy to purchase it. I am very satisfied.

    Very difficult to wall mount

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

For some crazy reason Sony put the cable connections smack in the center of the wall mount holes on the back of the tv -- making it super challenging to wall mount if you are connecting anything other than HDMI, such as an antenna connection or a bluray player or home theater that has component cables or if you want to connect an optical audio cable. This TV has a 300x200 VESA pattern for wall mounts (which for some reason Sony doesn't disclose so you have to measure it for yourself), which completely covers the connections on the back. The only way to way mount it is with substantial spacers and right angle adapters for the component connections and for the digital optical audio, if using those. Plus, even though I bought just a 40" tv, I have to buy a big wall mount in order to accommodate the 300x200 pattern, meaning that I spent more money & time on ordering the wall mount, cable adapters, getting more spacers from the hardware store, and having to mount a board on the wall to allow the wall mount to be centered, since the 300x200 type mounts need to be installed into 2 studs and therefore, it can't necessarily be centered without mounting a backer board to the wall first -- a lot of work that could be avoided by buying almost any brand other than Sony. Plus, with a refresh rate of only 60, this model's technology is a bit older -- don't think Sony is even making this model anymore. Would not recommend -- there are plenty of other tvs on the market with just as good picture quality without all the headache. Unless you can find it for under $280 and don't intend to wall mount it, I would pick something else.

I've owned this tv now for 5 months. It is in our bedroom. It is connected to the internet and satellite tv provider. I watch it only at night with BT headphones providing the only audio. The on board audio is superior to most of its competition that I compared it to. The image quality is very good for a tv in this price range. I feel like it's better than my 5 yr old 55" Samsung. I chalk this up to newer tech. I've had no connectivity issues at all. Refresh rate is fine. The only improvement that I would like is a better remote. Back lighting would be awesome!

    Best 40" TV

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased a 40" Insignia and returned it, because I did not like the quality of the picture , instead I bought this Sony. The difference in price is very justified: The TV plays HD stations even without a desk-top box. The picture quality is great, the colors are vibrant and natural and it automatically fills as much of the screen as possible. For me as being hard of hearing it is a rare treat that the headphone loudness signal is adjustable with the volume tabs on the remote. And the set-up to the computer via my router was easy. I couldn't be happier.

As my second TV (this one for the bedroom), I almost didn't spring for quality this high. I am so glad I did get this Sony TV (but kind of wish I would have gotten a little larger). It compliments my 55" Sony in the living room quite nicely. I am enjoying the "smartness" of this TV, as with the other. Love some of the apps that are free to use, and that I can purchase other subscriptions. I wish it was a little quicker after power-up before the Home screen can come up, but I guess that's the time it takes for the "OS" to boot up.

Easy to set up. Superb picture. First Smart TV so not sure if all do this, but love that it has a Guide (one thing I sort of missed now that we're using antenna and not cable). Display button provides lots of info on any given show. Several ways to navigate including Home, which displays the channels and apps you've recently watched. TV is lightweight with good wide base (which is a nice aluminum/nickel look). Sound is very good, I wish there was a button on remote to switch picture width but that's not a big deal. I almost bought the more expensive Samsung or LG but I think we're going to like this. Kudos to the sales guy who helped us, and directed us to this less expensive option!

The picture is awesome, set up was easy once I figured out the buttons on the side and the apps are easy to use. My remote control, however, was DOA. Everyone I've spoken to at Sony has been very polite but I will not get a replacement until May and I purchased this the end of March. I would have had to purchase a universal remote if my friend hadn't had a remote from an older Bravia (which works with this tv.) Most people probably have universal remotes so this issue probably would not bother them.

Bought this to replace an 8 year old Panasonic that went into the guest bedroom...already had a Sony in the Family Room, so needed one smaller for the bedroom. Love the picture - especially for sports! I have a Roku for streaming, so don't use the smart features. Despite that, easy set up with my home wifi. I know I'll have this for a long time!

OK for the price, but panel is meh

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have very mild astigmatism and this TV makes it seem much worse than it is. It looks like you're watching TV with safety glasses on. Increasing sharpness helps. If you look at the panel in daylight, the reflection is pretty strong and distorted, so I guess Sony used a sub-par sheet of diffuse polycarbonate with no anti-reflection coating over the LCD. Way to ruin an otherwise decent TV. Am I really the only person to notice this? I thought the panels used in the Samsung 6200 and 6300 series were far superior. If you're willing to sacrifice visual quality to avoid time-wasting issues with functionality and Samsung customer support, I'd go with this Bravia over the Samsung 6200/6300. That said, I've only had this TV for a couple of days and haven't needed customer support yet. The sound is surprisingly good for a flat screen. That said, I don't plan to use the built-in speakers, since I can plug it into my receiver. The layout on the remote is nice, but it be helpful if Sony would point out the location of the return and back buttons.

    Best LED in it's class

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This TV is exceptional. For the price, Sony delivers an exquisite product. I bought this as a bedroom TV and it is not connected to any cable provider. I simply use the built in Wi-Fi to connect to Hulu Plus, Netflix, my local Plex server (using the built in DLNA media player which works flawlessly). There was very little effort in calibrating this set. Color accuracy and black levels are top notch. With a near perfect grey tone and evenly disbursed, it can't get any better. Since this is a smaller set, it uses backlighting instead of edge lighting so it virtually eliminated any clouding or flashlighting, though complete black still shows slight uneveness, but far better than most other LEDs. Built in sound is on par with most sets, not impressive but easily fixable with a decent soundbar. The set is thicker than most LEDs due to the backlighting, but the better black quality makes it worth it. I have it sitting on the included stand which is very sturdy and looks sleek and does not take up too much space. This set also has 5.1 passthrough so getting a 5.1 channel soundbar makes sense for small footpinted setups such as a bedroom. Remote control is decent and I find it simple to use in dark room without having to look at it to find certain core keys to navigate. Sony seems to have pretty consistant firmware updates which shows this TV is still relevant (at least for the next few months at least). Definitely a great set, especially for the picky videophile. Certainly nowhere near large enough for a living room, but bedroom or small apartment could easily use this as a main set. Highly recommend.
