Lag: Let’s address that first. The initial lag in the TV interface is so bad I’d call it “deal breaking.” However, once the software is updated (a normal part of the early setup process) the lag vanishes. I’ve had NO LAG after the update, none. One could question wisdom of Sony continues to ship units that need update, right out of the box, verses updating them before they leave the factory... but this is a review. Just to be clear: there’s no input lag, after the first update. Setup Our TV section is limited by the opening in our entertainment system. This TV was one of only a few TVs that fit our space. The media devices connected to the TV: a Nintendo Switch, the Play Station 4 Pro, an AppleTV 4K and a HD antenna connected to the TV for local channels and random sporting event, but as a whole we do not watch “channels”. We limit our daughter’s TV to only the PBSKids App and our purchases through the iTunes store. The Play Station 4 (Pro) and the AppleTV are our sources of 4K, HDR content. We use the TV speaker most of the time. They are ok, a little weak, but make noises like you’d expect. However, to impress your friends and keeping the neighbors awake with sounds of explosions and witty banter between the hero and his plucky side kick, nothing beats a true surround system. Movie nights we push the sound through a surround sound receiver and a whole host of speaker. Viewing Habits AppleTV: 50% (Netflix, PBS Kids, YouTube, purchase Movies/TV shows) Play Station 4: 20% Nintendo Switch: 30% Over the Air Channels: 0% (we watch very little over the air TV, let’s say less than 1%) The Image The color and image quality is noticeable upgrade form our old HD TV. The image is better even with ‘plain’ HD content and even ‘old fashion’ SD content, like old movies and TV shows. The colors are richer, and seem more real. The brights are brighter and the darks are darker even with sub-4K content. What really shines in the HDR content (the extended color range). The enlarged color palette is more of a positive difference to my eyes than the extra pixels of 4K. This is really something that you have to see for yourself. The best aspect of the TV is the image. That’s really the main feature of any TV -- its display. Sony has created an exceptional display. It was the best example in Best Buy’s show room and looks even better at home. I’m really happy with what this display can produce. Motion smoothing effects take some time to get used to. The TV refreshes faster than the video its displaying, so the TV fills in the extra frame. It’s not an effect I like. Luckily it’s easy to disable. I understand that most modern TV suffer with the same issue. It seems faster your TV is more pronoticed this effect is. As more media comes out that take advantage of the power of 4K TV this will be less of a problem. I’ve gone to just turning it off. The Smarts of a Smart TV I’ll just say it – the Android TV platform is the biggest disappointment of this TV. Aside from the lag issues which is fixed with a quick update, the whole things feels bloated and unnecessary. I’m not a fan of the Android TV platform. This TV suffers like all other Android TV with a cluttered interface, hard to access settings and filled with app that we have no interest in and don’t want but can’t get rid of. We just use the input control and avoid the Android TV part of this smart TV. In Short + Image quality is outstanding (even without 4K, HDR content) + Image quality with 4K and HDR enabled is spectacular! + Setup was easy + HDMI control of receiver is nice - You have to enable HDR manually - Built in speaker are not very good - No easy way to access the settings - Display settings need to be tweaked to get the best out of the display - Android ‘Smart’ TV is the least smart thing about this TV Hints Make sure to have you video game inputs set to ‘Game mode’, and disable “auto image setting”. That made the most impact on the quality game. You have to enable the HRD mode on both the TV and the video source. Set RGB color range to “FULL” on all devices.

It was expensive for a 43" tv but the colors renditions rivals any Oled tv.
