I purchased the 49" Sony 900E as a monitor for my home bar. Over the years I noticed that guests tend to watch the TV behind the bar much more than the larger projector on the other side of the room. With that being said, the main purpose of this TV is to show sports and occasionally other OTA content. The native 120hz display combined with Sony's incredible image processing lead me to the 900E. The FALD display contributes to outstanding blacks with little blooming and helps make HDR content really pop! I wish they would have put the X1 Extreme processor in this set so we could enjoy Dolby Vision content but I am satisfied with HDR10 and Sony's frame by frame image processing (not to mention the price point). There has been some talk about off angle image quality but for my purposes (corner mount) I don't see any issues. Overall I would give this TV a 9.4/10 and would highly recommend it to anyone in the mid-range non-OLED market. I use Rtings when I am researching TV's and highly recommend checking out their review if you need any more encouragement to purchase this TV. ***The attached picture is for image angle only, I am not going to even try to capture how great the image on the screen looks.

I am an avid TV buyer. I love the older vizios for budget gaming and light watching and have two still that work perfent. However, I really didn't like the few 4k TV's I was looking at, and was looking for one to either pair with an xbox one x or ps4 pro, and thanks to RTINGS I originally got the tcl p605. While a great tv, I couldn't get the right settings and It had pretty bad motion blur that literally gave me a headache. Then. I got this bad boy. It's incredible, I wish the input lag was less but It's pretty decent at 32-4 ms. The colors and crispness are great on ps4 pro. Haven't tried 4k streaming on this one yet but am really excited to get to it. It's sturdy, nice looking, and after the update works great.

I have in my hair salon differents tv screen all over the place, but this baby is the best tv we ever purchase, you can see clearly the difference in quality comparing with others UHD LG and Samsg. on our wall. Those $300 extras really worth it.

So here's my story with this Television. We have two Tvs, a basement home theater TV (JU7100 Samsung 65 inch) and a main floor 32 inch 720p Samsung I got really cheap a few years ago. I decided to convince my wife to replace the 32 incher so we can watch more movies upstairs if needed too. We were placing this TV in a corner spot and decided that 55 inches would be too big. So it was either the 43 or the 49 inch for size. Being a Samsung, Sharp and Panasonic buyer, I never had a Sony. When I was at Best Buy, I was looking into spending extra and looking at the Samsung or the Sony. The Sony jumped to my attention and the lady told me that Sony had better overall processing and colors over the Samsung. I saw the 800E in both 40 and 43 inches. Then, she showed me the 900E. And its a difference when compared to the 850E or 800E. So, I decided to try out the 49 inch 900E. It fits perfectly in our space at home and the wife doesn't want anything bigger ( I considered the Sony OLED but they only make 55 minimum). After calibration, WOW what a picture. Blacks look outstanding. Colors really pop out at you and the processing of the video is crisp and uncompromising. It puts my 65 inch Samsung to shame and that was a solid TV from 2015. UHDs look AWESOME on this thing when the settings are done right. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has never looked better and I look forward to watching many more titles. Paired with my X800 Sony 4K player, this set is a no-brainer. It delivers a stunning picture and even my wife says she can see more details even just watching over the air HD. The next TV we get will replace the Samsung and you can bet it will be a Sony TV. I'm all in!

    Great 49" tv

I had bought a samsung mu8000 49" television but had to return due to lack of "pop". Finding a tv under 50" with the latest tech is near impossible. The samsung excelled with it's sharpness, sound, and OS. But I just couldn't deal with the picture quality. (in the larger sizes this may not be an issue though) The sony has a great, bright picture. The sound is okay. The design is okay, but I felt the feet on the Samsung were more sturdy than the weird central base the Sony has. The OS on the Sony isn't my favorite but I did do a software update and that made changing the settings easier. I think it comes with too much bloatware though. I would recommend this tv set at the 49" size. At the larger sizes, there may be more options at lower price points. I lucked out and got this tv on sale!

This thing is great! I was trying to decide for days between the 49" Samsung QLED and this. In the end I probably would have been happy with either one, but I have no regrets with this purchase. The picture is amazing with excellent motion processing. Once I adjusted the picture, I'm very happy with color and lighting. My only complaint is the remote is sometimes not very responsive, but you can use a cell phone to control it. There are tons of apps to choose from and everything seems to work seemlessly so far.

    Great Picture but Glitchy Interface

    Posted .

I've had the XBR49X900E for a few days, and overall, I am very pleased. The picture is excellent and the build quality is very nice. I've given it 3 stars because of the interface and remote. The interface seems to very glitchy. On the first day, the interface would stop working multiple times. I was trying to go through everything to see how it all works, but if I hit different buttons too fast, it would just stop responding. I would try to change the volume, and the sensor would blink as if it was getting the signal, but the volume wouldn't change. The only solution is to leave it alone for a minute or two or reset the TV, which is very frustrating. Not sure if I got a defective one or maybe needs another update. The remote is a huge letdown. I loved how simple my 2016 samsung TV remote was. I didn't need a light to operate it, but this Sony has so many button, and it doesn't even illuminate. Makes it very hard to operate in the dark. I'm sure after awhile, I'll get used to it. It's also terrible at sending the signal to the tv. With the Samsung, I could literally point it in the opposite direction, and it would still register with the TV. With this one, I have to make sure it's pointed directly at the sensor on the TV or else it wont work. Overall I like the TV, but it feels like I've sacrificed easy of use for a better picture.

    It's OK

We decided on the 900 model with the 49" screen primarily to have the native 120 refresh rate. The picture is OK; have not yet been able to find the sweet spot between a slightly washed out picture and an over saturated unnaturally brilliant one. It's great having all the access built in to connect to various video and audio sites and services, but the main problem is all the icons on the home screen. You can take off the ones on the top "recommended" row by going to settings, and you can rearrange the icons in the apps and games row in settings as well. But the vast majority of icons for access to apps are in the "featured apps" rows and there is no way to delete any of those icons or rearrange them. The setting to automatically move frequently used apps to the left end of the row the list does not work for me. One of the apps I use a lot is at the far right end of the "featured apps" row so I have to scroll through dozens of icons I will never use to get to it. I was on the phone for over an hour with a Sony rep who took control of my TV remotely and he, too, is now aware of this aggravating home screen situation. It would be like buying a computer with dozens of icons preinstalled on the screen that you can not rearrange or remove. And it does have a fairly narrow field of view; get too far off to the side and the picture really deteriorates. Overall though, it's a good reasonably priced tv to meet future increases in 4k program availability.

    Beautiful Picture

I work for Best Buy and run the Magnolia dept and look at TV's all day. The OLED would have been my first choice but at the close out price of 1499.00 the 65 900e was a deal. I have been a Panasonic Plasma guy for years but am very impressed with the definition that this TV has. The HDR is great and the up scaling is amazing. I don't use the smart features because I use a firestick for streaming, which works great. My only complaint is all the needless settings that they put on TV's these days. Half the time you can't find what you need and how to fix and issue and I work with these things all day. The TV does come on by itself from time to time and I'm still trying to get this worked out. Again, to many setting to wade through. Since I don't use the smart features I have less problems. I don't like Google so that's why I use a firestick. All in all it's a beautiful TV.

The software is buggy, apps will crash and need to be restarted, I'll likely have to buy a Comcast to fix this. Remote only works when having it pointed directly at the bottom of the tv, it's a small thing but still annoying. Not sure if it's a hardware issue or a streaming one (my connection is not the problem), but the quality of the image has some artifacts, like the video is still being processed or being buffered. Things I do like about this TV when the artifacting isn't present, the picture is amazing and the tv looks very stylish. Overall, the X900E isn't worth the price.

I'm overjoyed with the picture and sound on this TV. I'm even happy with the remote (after wrangling with a dysfunctional klutzy remote for years). With this smart TV, I was willing to take the plunge and cut cable. When I had difficulty pairing an antenna with the TV, the Sony phone support was excellent in guiding me through this process. The only problem that I've had is with screen mirroring: it often disconnects or doesn't connect in the first place. I expect that Sony support can resolve this....or I can splurge for Apple TV down the road.

    Compatibility issues

We bought this the Sony XBR49x900e yesterday. We also bought a Sony HT-MT300 Soundbar with subwoofer. Very good picture quality. Still learning all the features so I can't really comment on them as of yet. What I can tell you is unless you want to spend more money and buy a programmable remote or use 3 remotes to operate one tv don't buy this tv. This is a new model for 2017 and yet most of the natively supported Sony external speaker systems by the Sony Bravia Sync are older models that have already been discontinued. The ones that haven't are very expensive and I don't need a sound system that costs as much as the tv. The Sony remote that comes with the set is NOT programmable. So to change the channels on the set connected to my cable box via HDMI to I have to use my cable remote. The set remote defaults to channels rather than HDMI when trying to change channels so no signal. To adjust the sound volume on the sound bar I have to use the remote that came with the soundbar because Bravia Sync doesn't recognize the device because it has a digital connection and not HDMI. If I want to access the smart features or set features I have to use the remote that came with the tv. I sat last night and juggled 3 remotes. It really ruined my experience. Sony has been little to no help. Their online customer support chat is a joke. Their is little to no instructions on how to set any thing up. Sony's answer to programming your cable company set top box to the Sony remote is to put an IR Blaster device over the IR on the box. That is just dumb and would make my cable box remote unusable. I just don't understand why in this age of high technology why in the world Sony would not supply the set with a programmable remote and would sell a new model with only native support for outdated/discontinued soundbars made by them. In conclusion: If you want to invest in an universal remote and hope that works with the TV, Soundbar (or home theater) and cable box then this tv is a great buy. The picture quality is fantastic for the price range and I am pleased with that. Everything else not so much.

    Dolby Vision?

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The TV seems really great. I exchanged a Vizio P55C for this because their marketing mentions that this model has Dolby Vision. I get the tv home, sign into the Netflix App, throw on Daredevil and did not see the familiar "Dolby Vision" Branding as the show loads up. I did some digging online and found that on Sony's Website there is a "1" in the corner next to the Dolby Vision branding mentioning that it will be added via Firmware update sometime this year. Can anyone confirm this? If this TV does not offer Dolby Vision, it is falsely advertising a KEY feature of the TV and the reason I decided to purchase it.

After having Samsung TV's and using their Smart Hub and Menus the Sony is a step backwards. It is clunky and hard to use. They bury things you use under all of their apps and content they try to push. The overall user experience satisfaction is low. The picture quality is good but nothing to be impressed with. Overall the ease of usability causes this to be a bad TV.

I was on the fence on this TV for a while, but I'm amazed how pretty this TV is out of the box! It was easy to setup and get going, the stand is well put together. I did experience some random lag while picking different streaming providers, but that cleared up once I installed the latest Android update. I really like how the remote is universal for other devices. If you don't want to spend over $1000 and don't want anything bigger then a 50", you'll want this.
