    excellent with one important exception

if you want to burn music onto a usb memory stick via this player, you may be shocked to learn that it only burns at a bit rate of 128 kbps -- not the CD-standard of 196. There's really no good reason for their low quality burn rate in 2015! NOTE: it does play back music that is on the memory stick at a 196 bit rate -- so why won't it burn at that rate, too?

Hello stephen! Thank you for you feedback, we will forward this information regarding the tracks being transferred as 128 kbps MP3 files versus the same bit rate as the original MP3 files to the proper department for future reference~ Jeannette Sonystyle

Had to replace my Sony 5-disc CD player that stopped working after many years of use. Has more functions than my old one. Has held up well so far. Definitely recommend Sony products.

Didn't play CD-Rs or even commercial CDs

I bought this thinking that, of course, it would play CD-Rs. Not even close. Plus it wouldn't even play commercial CDs on a consistent basis. I thought it might be an issue with the CD-R recording, but they played fine on a denon single CD payer, my computer, and even a cheap single disc player boom box ($29 - Jensen), I returned it and got a Yamaha 697 which works perfectly. What is up with Sony? I know they have DRM issues, but yikes. Never again.

    2nd time - still faulty

I purchased this CD player (the only make/model available - most must have gone to MP3 players) as a replacement for an older player on its last legs. 1st player consistently "warbled" playing about 40% of the discs. Returned/replaced with the same model (Sony does have a good reputation)....same thing - although only happens about 25% of the time. Pathetic, really.

Player was good for the money

Unit was a good deal for the money but after playing several CD;s it started to act funny. It would stop right in the middle of a song, it would skip disc and make strange loud sounds when changing. I thought Sony would be of good quality. Now I have to pack up the unit and take it back to the store an hour away to try and get my money back because I will not buy Sony ever again. I bought another unit it cost a little more but I feel that this unit will be of better Quality(Onkyo)

    Won't play CD-R

Not many choices out there anymore for CD players, but I definitely regret buying this one. It can't "find" CD-R discs and sometimes can't find discs I bought from the store (well, way back in the day). Sony is trading on their good name from 10-20 years ago. They are no longer a reliable manufacturer.

    Skipping problem

I returned the CD player to my Best Buy store initially because it skipped multiple times on each cd. They sent it for repair. Now approximately 6 months later the player skips on each cd at about song 11. I'll contact my store but I'd say don't waste your money...
