    Out of Lip Sync

    Posted .

The 50 inch SONY Model 690E was extremely disappointing. Most annoying was that off-air channels were frequently coming up out of lip sync - mouths on the screen did not match in time with the voices on the TV speakers. If I switched off the channel and back again, it might be okay on the second try. This is annoying and completely unacceptable. Digital artifacts and video compression noise on broadcast sub-channels was remarkably bad. This model does NOT upscale HD nor SD content to 4K. Built-in speakers are more tinny than other flat panels we own. Even after making many adjustments to the 690, compared to the 39 inch VIZIO that the SONY was intended to replace, the VIZIO had a far better picture with the two sets sitting side by side. We own two other SONY 1080 HDTV's (a 50 and a 40 inch) and they are far superior to this 4K model in picture, audio, features, functions and range of adjustment options. We returned the SONY 690 in two days after purchase. Had the 50 inch model been on display in the store, I would have not bought it in the first place.

    Great Buy

The Sony 5" fit well within my budget. The experience with the used or open box sets was hit and miss though. First one had problems with the TV base pulling away from TV screen. Best Buy was very quick to replace but the 2nd came with no book or instructions, and I was told they would not be sending another out. NO problem. I'm happy with the TV. Had to buy a digital to analog converter to hook up my old Sony Surround Sound to the 4k Sony TV. Again, no problem at all.

Bought the this Sony TV back in February 2018 and stopped working in December. No picture and no sound. Had a repair tech look at it. He said it was beyond repair. I like Sony but this model seams to had been one jinx.

    Going backwards

Im writing this review based off the TV that this one replaced wich was a "42 Panasonic 720p plasma, I bought this tv because I thought I would be upgrading and could move my old plasma to the basement. However, the motion blur on these newer tv's are just horrible, the picture is noticeably better on this one but my old one was only a 720p. I guess I'll have to get use to the motion blur until they comeback out with a tv that can mimic the plasma refresh rate. A couple other things worth noting: the TV didn't come with any hardware to mount to a wall mount, which caused a trip to the hardware store, the power cord was not long enough to reach to the outlet I was using so I had to run an extension cord behind the wall, and the remote looks and feels like a baby's toy. Call me old fashioned but it just seems like we keep making things cheaper and cheaper.

This is NOT a good Smart tv

This is an Opera platform TV and the only apps you can download are from foreign countries. It does come with Netflix and Amazon Video pre-installed, but those are your only options. You will not be able to download PS Vue, Direct Now, HBO NOW, Etc... You will have to use a Fire TV or Roku device to do anything on this tv. The screen itself is also not completely flat. I am not sure if it was just the tv we purchased or if it is consistent with all of these tv's, but the screen had ripples. Our Samsung tv's do not have this problem and that is including our curved Samsung tv. I do not recommend this tv to anyone. Sony really dropped the ball with anything below an 800 series. We returned our X690 and purchased a true Smart tv made by Samsung.

    Think twice before buying

I was excited when I saw this for $429.99. However, I returned the TV after three days because I had some issues with it. 1) In three days, the TV froze twice. Once after clicking on the "Opera" app, and then again while navigating the home screen. Pressing buttons on the remote wouldn't unfreeze it. To unfreeze the TV, I had to unplug it and plug it back in. 2) The black bars to the top/bottom of movies wouldn't get completely black or even uniform, which is very distracting to me. Even my old, cheap 1080p TV has no issues with this. 3) Bad viewing angles. 4) Sound is bad for much content. 5) I didn't try out the HDR, but I have a feeling that turning it on would cause black crush/cause a loss of shadow detail, make things over-saturated. Anyway, here are some pros: 1) Price, but you get what you pay for. I wonder if there are better TVs for the price. 2) 4K resolution 3) Motion looked good to me. 4) Regular blu-rays looked above average to me.

    Disappointing experience

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I was beyond excited to purchase my first TV in years. I researched for months and landed on this above the other brands. I don't live close enough to visit a store regularly and was not keen on shipping a TV, so I made a six hour round trip to make this purchase. I make that point because unfortunately, I can't just take it back to the store. For the first few hours of use, it was beautiful -- a dynamic picture and sound and I was thrilled. Then the screen went black. I had just plugged it in the night before, this couldn't be possible! I could hear sounds but that was all -- the green light turns on with no picture; I've done the factory reset and consulted the owner's manual and Sony tech to no avail. While if working the TV itself would be five-stars, since this purchase, what has followed are hours on the phone between Geek Squad and Sony customer care, and weeks waiting for the TV to arrive. On the phone with Geek Squad, I was immediately transferred to Sony (which begged me to ask, why did I purchase Geek Squad protection when I was told at the counter that buying that protection plan would avoid having to deal with the manufacturer?) Through Sony, I was told several times that a replacement would arrive in 2-3 days. Twice I've placed a hold on my credit card in order to receive the replacement and send the broken TV back. It's now almost been a month and I still have this brand new, top of the line broken TV in a box staring at me. It's a box full of disappointment! Though a replacement has been promised, with the frustration that this experience has brought I would be very hesitant to buy from Best Buy or this brand again. I understand this may be a one-in-a-goldmine faulty TV, but I feel in this day and age there are better and quicker ways to make things right.

TV worked fine for less than 2 month. Apps are limited but didn't matter much. Then the internet and USB stopped working. After following the useless TV menus I called SONY support which were super rude and said they would have someone call me next week sometime. IT's a bran new TV!! Don't bother with this one. Poorly made and poorly supported.

    Could not hold channel list

Average picture, until you go into the settings.. Didn't work well with HDMI off the Computer. Washed out picture and not able to change display, Worse part is that the tv would not hold channel. It would go into fine tuning ,then to audio only half the time. And yes I did the channel search on set up.. The Cable connection seemed to be a bit loose.. Bought it on Sat, returned it on Monday. We do have a ten year old Sony Plasma that still works great. This is not a true Android computer

Display gave out after 6 weeks

I was extremely happy with this television upon purchasing it just over 6 weeks ago—beautiful picture at a great price. Three days ago, however, the picture gave out completely; the TV turned on, and the LED flashed green as normal, but nothing shows in the image display. Geek Squad could not figure it out and now has to special order parts, so no use for a week. So disappointed, and after being fairly loyal to Sony products for a long time, I'm off them for good.

    Most annoying TV purchase, EVER

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Good: The TV looks amazing, image is sharp and the colors are amazing for the sale price, The Bad: No matter what I tried I couldn't open Youtube or Netflix (Error while loading, try again later, etc. etc.) Interestingly I was able to download the system update. Tried doing wired and wireless and nothing. Had to put it back in the box (after hours of trying) and return it. The kicker is the people at the store already knew there is an issue with the model or even the brand because they didn't ask me why I was returning it, the associate actually confirmed this by questioning me if the reason for the return was from connectivity issues. Bought an LG for 70 bucks less and had it running Netflix in less than 10 minutes (Including assembly).

    Worst TV ever

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Bought this TV back in December and as some reviews have mentioned it keeps dropping the internet connection, got a replacement from Sony a brand new TV in the box, sure enough same exact problem, drops internet connection. Sony decided to send a technician and after couple of times of coming to my house he was not able to fix the problem. Sony offers me to replace it AGAIN with the same model. I refused as this connection. Issue is a known defect with this particular model. Now it’s the middle of February tried several times to speak to a supervisor, finally after several attempts one calls me back. Days later still no resolution. The supervisor asked to send the service bulliten that shows the known defect. I sent it via email, while on the phone with said supervisor she went over the service bulletin, said she will call me back once she speaks to technical support, it’s 4 business days later still no return call. I called and the representative states the email I sent was deleted by mistake and I need to send it again. So I’ve lost all confidence in Sony. I was a loyal Sony consumer going back to days of the Walkman. Never Sony again.
