My Favorite
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My review is coming from someone that has an XBR950, Panasonic VT50 Plasma, and a X900A 4K. All I can tell you is the W900A is like the XBR950 without local dimming. The colors on the W900 are better and the difference in black levels on the XBR950 are slightly better at best. If you want a 55 inch for 2500 or under, this is it. If I had the XBR950 and the W900A side by side and had to choose I would choose the W900A and then fall over when I found out it saves me 1500. The VT50 is the is plasma and is well hard to beat, but not a fair comparison being plasma. If you want LED and in a 55 and don't want 4k buy the W900A and then feel like you got away with something. Oh and its the best gaming LED for input lag.

Excellent TV if Picture quality is your desire
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 55w900a has an excellent picture right out of the box. Had to change a few settings in order to get my "perfect" picture but I'll definitely recommend paying for a calibration. This LED TV will be the closest set to display colors found on Plasma TV's. Colors are extremely accurate with saturation kept in line, although blue is expressed a little too much (calibration fixes this). The quartz cut boarders adds a hint of design that I personally like. Reminds one they own nice Bravia. My rating on speakers is "Excellent" in comparing other flat panel LED's. The set has a sound which is warming but by no means does it replace a home theater set or a sound bar. The SmartTV portion of the TV as stated still lacks in comparison to others such as Samsung and LG, but has improved overall compared to last year interface. If interactivity is what you seek you might have to look elsewhere to find what you like. Note: Sony Internet Player with google TV, is a nice addition to this TV if you plan on doing a lot of Internet browsing on your TV as it brings a Qwerty Keyboard. Overall I highly recommend this model over any of the competitors out there. If plasma is your preference, look into the Panasonic VT60, although the product line will be discontinued after this year. PS. Forgot to mention, Rated #2 TV for gamers with a 19ms input lag, #1 Sony w802a at 17ms Happy Gaming :)

Best balance of size, refresh rate, features, price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our previous TV was a Bravia 46 inch LCD 1080P 60hz that we have had for the last 6 years. This TV is our main entertainment center display device and sees daily use for gaming, broadcast TV, and heavy PC monitor use for high end PC gaming, website work, and internet surfing. When we decided to purchase an XBOX ONE we also decided it was time to upgrade the TV to an update unit with smart apps, fast refresh, and 3D capability. We did lots of research and narrowed the choices down to the new Vizio 55 inch 1080P 240Hz LED model and the Sony 55 inch 1080P 240 hz. The Vizio has been getting great reviews from all over the net. However, the new models have not been out more than a year, and there is very little feedback about longevity. Since we did not want to get something that would have to be yanked off the wall in a year or less to be returned to the store for repair, we decided to purchase the Sony to ensure that once we labored to get it up on the wall - it would STAY on the wall and keep working. We have had the Sony for about 3 weeks so far and it has been great. To us the Sony picture is more realistic and less garish and "in your face" compared to some of the other brands of LED flat screens. It may be possible to tune the other brands in the settings to match the Sony picture, but "out of the box" with minimal setup the Sony seems to have the most realistic and natural colors while watching broadcast shows in HD. Playing XBOX and PC games as well as doing graphic intensive PC work like Photoshop looks awesome on the Sony. Here's hoping we get 6 more years of trouble free performance from this TV !

Brilliant - Best Picture
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We own quite a few new and 4-5 yr old tvs. We were going to buy the next Sony tv down for $1499 with the 120Hz refresh rate but the SONY salesman at the Best Buy store in Riverhead NY showed me the extra features and quality of this tv 1) It is easy peasy to use and set up 2) This has the best tv picture outside of the 4K UltraHD tvs I have seen.... and we own 2 excellent 50" and 65" Plasma tvs (Pioneer and Panasonic)... a 2 year old Vizio 46" and several Samsung tvs of varying speeds/HD etc 3) The sound is excellent, much better than on my Plasmas and other HDTVs 4) The Netflix and other apps are so easy to use and set up 5) The wifi works perfectly 6) There are many HDMI and other inputs available 7) This is only 45lbs - lighter than all of my other tvs including the 42" one 8) Once you practice, the remotes are brilliant 9) The sound and colour programs are easy to tweak and give awesome quality... I mainly watch sports and action tv shows so this is ideal... I am watching the British Premier League footy and the players feel like they are in my room.. woo hooo I own SONY computers all of which have lasted without incident... I hope this does the same 96/100 rating Note - I am an electronic engineer by trade but even my non techy wife could set this up

THE TV To Own In It's Price Range
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I looked at all of the top flat panel TV's available that were not the 4k models. This one without a doubt had the finest contrast, black levels, accurate colors and best dynamic range of anything out there. The one that came closest was a top Panasonic Plasma and the new Samsung 8000 series, however when comparing them on high resolution photography it revealed that the Sony had the finest dynamic range (ability to discern between light and dark areas) and black levels. The look is pure sexy and the plethora of inputs and online abilities show Sony has stepped up their game. This model by the way has the SAME panel technology as their top line and highly touted 4K model which is 2x the price. The "Trilumonous" display shines with detail and color accuracy. Works in my home theater setup superbly. if you are looking in the $2300-$3000 price range look NO further. THIS is THE tv to own.

Awesome
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've done quite a bit of research about this TV, including looking the Panasonic Plasma TC-P55ST60. I've owned a Panasonic TC-VT60 and they do provide a great picture with awesome black levels but after a year an a half I went to turn it on and received the "7 blinks of death" red lights, which isn't good. I wanted the best picture for the money and I've found it! The Sony KDL 55W990A is the best picture for under $2000 (got it on sale) that you can find. I also have a Samsung 7100 which is equally great but I still give it to the Sony. Lastly Sony's are bullet-proof! I loved my Panasonic plasma but to get 1 1/2 year out of a tv has left me discouraged.

Best Gaming TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently sought out to buy a TV that would compliment my new PS4 system. I initially purchased the W802A (to save $500), but after about a week of not being particularly impressed, I decided to upgrade to the W900A. Huge difference! The colors on the W802 were dull and a little off. When something yellow was next to something green, both colors seemed to resemble each other. After tweaking it so much and never being satisfied, I threw in the extra money for the upgrade. The 900 exhibits colors that "pop" as they should for a TV that is this frikin' expensive! Both TVs have a low input lag, so you can get fluid gameplay, but in my opinion, if you're going to seriously throw down on a gaming display, get the better of the two and save yourself the trouble. I gave this set a 4/5 rating because my only complaint is that the base can't handle the TV with confidence. It bobs around and scares me every time someone gets close to it. Sony should have accounted for a solid base.

AMAZING PICTURE!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been an excellent purchase for me... Well worth the extra money that I paid for this Sony model's remarkable performance. It's better than all other competitive brands that I've seen. It's picture quality is truly amazing! Colors and skin tones all appear real and are life-like, unlike some other brands that seem to pump up the brightness of their sets and saturate their screens with colors that look more like Sunday cartoons and comics than is the real world around us. An excellent purchase for those who want exceptional picture quality and realistic viewing presentation. Speakers and sound presentation, however, though adequate, are not exceptional in my opinion. I'd recommend using an additional sound bar or an external audio component system for truly great audio performance that will do justice to the picture quality of this model.

Fantastic Smart TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After exhaustive investigation and several comparisons against a similar Samsung Smart TV, I decided to buy the Sony TV and I think I made an excellent decision. Triluminus display gives amazing, reds, greens, blues and all colors look very real and beautiful. Blacks are true blacks no bright blacks as Samsung TVs. Smart features are great. HD and blu-ray movies looks very real HD. Sports HD look like you are there!!! I like it!! Also like Tweet TV. In addition I got free 1 year of Netflix, Hubu Plus and Sony Music. In summary, the second best TV after the Sony 4K

Excellent picture quality!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did a ton of research (reviews, etc.) and this TV kept rising to the top. It shares a lot of the technology (Triluminos, etc.) in Sony's 4K product line and the result is rich, vivid colors with excellent detail and clarity. The user interface could stand improvement but gets the job done. Sound quality is acceptable and can be easily improved with a sound bar or external audio system. The free 1-year subscription to Netflix and Hulu Plus makes the lofty price less painful. Be aware that the glossy screen will create reflection problems in a well-lit room that has a lot of windows. Unfortunately, anti-reflective measures that diffuse light hitting the screen also diffuse light coming out of the screen and picture quality suffers. Glossy screens seem to be the trend in all high-end TVs that emphasize picture quality.

Fantastic TV and bonus 3D
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did a lot of research before purchasing this TV. I had 3 criteria: 1) Color saturation; 2) sharp picture; 3) at least 120Hz for sports/motion. The salesman took me right to this TV which had everything I was looking for and so much more. My family and I could not be happier. Also purchased the Sony 3D Blu-ray player and everything works well. Thank you BB for listening to what I wanted and matching me to the right product!

BEST 240HZ LED TV FOR THE MONEY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife bought me a Samsung TV 55" led 240hz model 7100 to replace a 7 yr old 46" Sony XBR in my bedroom on Black Friday. I currently have a Samsung 60" 240hz led in my living room. I wanted something as bright as the one in my living room. I've had the new Samsung 55 for about 2 weeks now but I was not happy and not feeling excited. For one, I have the same exact tv in my living one but smaller. I miss my Sony and the vivid colors it provides. So I did my research and found out Sony still makes great TVs. A little bit more expensive though. So I went and exchanged the Samsung 55 for this Sony 55 and boy was I not disappointed. For those people looking for a great Tv with great picture and sound quality and cannot decide Samsung or Sony, GO WITH THE SONY. IT IS WORTH THE MONEY.

Amazing TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I shopped around between this TV and the Samsung 8000BF model. This picture was the best I have ever witnessed (with exception of the new 4K models) and came with all of the necessary features. Samsung only had it beat on the voice recognition functionality but I am honestly not sure I would ever use it. I also was hesitant to buy another Samsung product because my last TV purchased 4 years ago already has issues with the HDMI port panel. No regrets - love the Sony TV...if you do buy this TV take advantage of the free one year's worth of subscriptions with Hulu Plus and Netflix!

The BEST led TV of 2013 hands downs!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.*Purchased in store 12/31/2013* With DTV the picture is pure win! The colors pop with accuracy and the movment (240hz) is a lot smoother then Samsung panels. Have not tried the 3D nor Blue ray. Picture is EXCELLENT cannot imagine what Blue ray will appear like.! This tv displays some very impressive black levels and has zero clouding in dark scenes which is nice!

Great Picture
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This image is great. The color tone is realistic. I compared this Sony TV with Samsung - This TV shows better image processing that it does not show any pixilation with fast moving images. I found that Samsung UN55F8000BFXZA does not have the same image quality, and I could see pixilation on fast moving images. The colors on the Sony TV are much more realistic than the Samsung. I am very happy with this purchase.

Good picture vs the competition
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been looking for a large flat screen TV to replace my 2007 Panasonic Plasma. Because of cabinet limitations I had to select a 55" or less unit. I zeroed in on the Samsung line: 55F8000; the Sony KDL55 W900A; and the Panasonic Plasma 55ST(VT)60. I would have opted for the Panasonic but it was just too tall - so it came down to the 2 above (though I thought of the Samsung 51F8500 plasma- too small and image was not as good as the Pani). The HD pictures on the Samsung and the Sony are good-to very good; but I am just disappointed in the SD image on both (ie TVLand, old non-HD shows, etc). The Samsung UI for web access and the like has it all over the Sony (the Samsung also includes a camera for Skype w/ the grandchild) whereas the Sony's web browsing experience is pretty much useless. So I found myself settling for the Sony - yes - I agree with all the professional reviews that the HD and BluRay display is better on the Sony (especially the blacks) over the Samsung . 3D on both sets was just OK - though the nod would go to Samsung on 3D. More a gimmick for the kids. So if you're buying a TV in the $2K price range and want the best set for HD viewing (pretty much my requirement)- then the Sony is the choice.

Great picture, but has a problem
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did plenty of research before buying this TV, even though I have always had Sony TVS. The picture is amazing. I do have a problem with glare on the shinny screen from a window across from the TV. My big problem is that the TV speaker went out after one month. Sony support was great, and I'm waiting for the new speaker to be installed. I gave this four stars because I'm hoping when the speaker issue is resolved, I will just get to enjoy it.

Best TV I've owned or used regularly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'd fallen in love with the Samsung UE55F8000 at work but when I went to buy one, I was distracted by this Sony w900a's quality. In the end, I went with the Sony and I'm glad. I've used both enough to know that the Sony is by far a better television when it comes to picture quality. As far as features (that I'd probably rarely use beyond the first week) the Samsung does have more to offer.
