This TV *had* amazing picture quality. By far the best non 4K picture I've ever saw on a Television. However, that picture quality lasted only a few short months until a vertical line developed on the screen. After Sony replaced our 4 month old TV with a refurbished unit (same model), the refurb unit has an unacceptable amount of screen bleeding, causing our viewers to always ask if the screen is dirty due to extreme discoloration in the bleeding area (3/4 of the TV). Sony will not honor our request to replace this clearly defective unit. Will be last Sony purchase I'll ever make.

    Stunning Picture and Flawless 3D

I originally made this purchase as a budget compromise but quickly learned that it wasn't a compromise at all in terms of quality. The Best Buy reviews combined with a thorough review posted at the website, rtings.com convinced me that this model was the best choice for its size, features and price. The Sony 55KDL800C is cosmetically appealing and easy to set-up. It delivers stunning images after a quick adjustment to the brightness control—I turned it to the max on this set. For sports fans, it has a cool push-button feature on the remote that enhances the image for live broadcasts. The Android-based interface was easy to navigate and quickly allowed me to access services like Hulu, Youtube and Vudu. The icing on the cake is the inclusion of 3D. Though the active 3D glasses needed are not included with the set, I can highly recommend the quite affordable Samsung SSG 5150 Active 3D Glasses—currently $19.99 at Best Buy. The display immediately recognizes and links up with these glasses which are light and very comfortable to wear. I had been collecting 3D Blu-ray discs over the last year and finally got my chance to watch a few of them—Wow!. Watching movies in 3D on this display is every bit as immersive as the movie theater. The image retains its clarity without flicker or crosstalk—a truly wonderful 3D experience—with no headaches. The design, image quality and features of this Sony model make it a no-brainer —a steal at $799.

Excellent option for those seeking smooth motion

I am blown away - both by the quality and the price. The unit's marriage to Android is a great pairing - since my family is anchored around our Gmail account. The system immediately gained control of my Onkyo surround sound system and with the 18mbps HDMI cable I was able to stream very high quality 1080p content with very little noticeable artifacts, judder, color issues, I could go on and on - the television is stunning! I had just sold my 2011 D7000 series Samsung 1080p HDTV which had a 240Hz panel, I had heard about 4K becoming the new standard and the prices seemed reasonable, so I decided to jump in with both feet - but when I looked into the options I found out that there were several tiers within each 4K brand which was pricing me out of the upgrade. I assumed the technology would far outpace my D7000. I was wrong - what I found was a new standard - the 120Hz panel - half the scan rate I had just days before. I could only afford the entry level Samsung 4K, the 6500, tested it and it was far inferior to my 240Hz panel, loaded with judder and poor interpolation and slow processing; I also tested the 6-core Vizio, which was also loaded with issues, most significant was the color settings and pixilation; Then I found the Sony - which was my last option, since no other panels offered any clear motion rate even close to what the 240Hz panel had. Get one while they last, it might be a challenge to see the difference between this panel and a solid 4K - extremely sharp, extremely smooth.

I'm very pleased with the colors and refresh rate performance. I was a little hesitant but went with the purchase because of good experiences with recent Sony tvs. For a 55' tv the price was right on point during a sale. I didn't think I would like the chrome stand but it's really not that bad. The stand doesn't stick out too much and it supports the tv well.

    Great picture, subpar build quality

For a standard HD tv, the picture on this set is very good after making adjustments in the settings menu. Colors look natural and black levels are really good. The tv was very easy to set up and the menus are intuitive. My complaints are two fold. First, after about 2.5 weeks, the tv began making a popping or cracking noise quite frequently while powered on. Because of Best Buy's terrible return policy of only 15 days, I was unable to return the tv or exchange it for a new one. I went through the troubleshooting with Sony support for them to tell me it's normal and is from the plastic flexing as it changes with heat and will go away in a month or two. I'm not holding my breath on that (a search online will show many results of people with Sony tv's that do the same thing). It's frustrating to have a brand new tv and have it doing this and have no recourse at this point. Sony's build quality is sub par in my opinion and Best Buy has the absolute worst return policy I've ever seen. I'll never buy large appliances or electronics from them again.

Great Android Big Screen TV...So happy!!!

I had been thinking about a new big screen TV for months and kept looking at different models online at Best Buy. When I finally came across this Sony Android TV (six days before the SuperBowl!) and read about all the features, especially Miracast, I was sold! I am so happy I decided on this model. Set up was very quick and I learned the remote features pretty easily. The picture is beautiful and watching sports is great. I love that this Sony TV pairs with my LG phone and my HP laptop. I did buy the Sony sound bar but have not set it up yet because I am moving soon and the sound from the TV speakers is fine for now. My only criticism is that, unlike my Insignia TV, I must point the remote squarely at the set or the signal does not connect. At first this really annoyed me but now I'm used to it and feel this does not detract from my overall complete satisfaction. It's just a point to keep in mind. Lastly, the weight of this TV is just over 40 pounds which is manageable although it will take two people to relocate it. I highly recommend this TV and my purchasing experience at Best Buy was fantastic also. Really, the customer service guy was very helpful and I appreciate his excellent service. Thanks, Tony! Great Job!!! The delivery guys were also polite and very professional. I've always been confident about Sony products and this TV is no exception!

I was replacing an OLD Sony 720p 45 inch tv, and I spent much time choosing between this one and a Sony 4k that was 600 bucks more. I'm very happy I saved the money an got this one instead. It's about the best 1080p picture you can buy outside of OLED, and the android features are very nice. Netflix can get a little buggy but Sony has been pretty timely with the updates. Maybe it's just going from 45 to 55 inches and from 720 rear projection to 1080p LED, but I love this TV.
