Realistic colors, sharp picture, Android TV

I've had this TV for nearly three weeks now and feel now that I am in a position to share my thoughts about it. Overall, this is an excellent set! I appreciate that the colors, once calibrated (and even a bit out of the box), are incredibly life-like. It seems cliché, but watching content on this TV seems like you're just looking out the window. Other TV's that I was looking at in this price range had colors that popped way too much for my taste. Most content looks very sharp on this TV. Obviously, 4k content (which is accessible thru many of the apps pre-loaded on the TV) looks best. For those that haven't experienced 4k yet, the best way that I can describe this content is that it looks like it has depth without having to wear 3D glasses. It is really incredible! I was surprised to see how well content upscales. Even DVDs look acceptable. Finally, Android TV is a great plus for this television. The problem with most smart TV platforms is that the manufacturer will invent a proprietary platform that seems like it has potential and then they'll drop support for it in favor of something else. Android TV already has a ton of apps. The interface is mature, having learned from prior attempts by Google at a TV operating system. Finally, even if Sony decides to drop support for Android TV in the future, owners will still be able to access the store and/or sideload apps onto it. This TV has unlimited potential! The one gripe that I have about this set is off-angle viewing really degrades the picture quality (mainly color and contract). Everything starts to get washed out once you get about 30° off center. Because I sit dead-on, this isn't a problem for me so I'm not deducting a star. I mention this for those with large living rooms that have a variety of viewing locations will not be caught by surprise. If you're thinking about getting a new TV, you should strongly consider this Sony!

After a year and three months, my tv flashes a red light six times. I looked it up and it means a power supply board problem or failure. This is the second Sony tv in two years that has gone bad. Sony tvs might look good but they are NOT reliable. My first Sony 4k was in warranty but I was given a refurbished tv as a replacement. Sony will always give you a refurbished tv as a warranty replacement. Who would want to pay a new tv price for a refurbished tv ? Get a reliable brand instead of Sony.

This Tv was great in the first year. Three years later it if crashes while streaming, it can’t handle the any tasks I throw at it. I have to hook up a another streaming device. A month or two after the 1year manufacturers warranty expired, Sony released an update. They ruined the “inputs color settings” on this tv. Picture would be white and fuzzy. Eventually they fixed it almost a year later. Would not recommend this tv if you’re looking to buy it in 2021

After doing some soul searching on which TV I should I finally made my mind up and got the Sony 850c. What great choice I made!!. Sports, and movies look so clear and crisp. After comparing the same model Samsung which I think is the ju7100 this one seem to get the better reviews, and when I saw these two in the store colors on the Sony out shinned the Samsung TV. The Samsung TV was to bright for me and some color's seemed washed out. Had this TV for a month now and I'm happy with it!!!

    Absolute Museum Quality PQ

I rarely review my purchases. This Sony set is 10 STARS in build and PQ quality. The stand is modern, stylish and VERY firm, unlike a review I read. Have not tried the Apps or 3D but the PQ is better than Samsung and LG! I have tried them all. The 120HZ motion is spot on and there is a perfect video and audio sync on all channels from my COMCAST box and the colors are the most VIVID as I have seen. This is all coming from an absolute PERFECTIONIST. Sony's screen is active matrix as compared passive screens in LG and Samsung which produce amazing and bright colors. Overall, GREAT set.

First I should tell you I am coming from a Samsung Plasma Unit that gave up the gost...With that being said I just could not find a LED that had a picture that was anywhere near what my plasma looked like. This units picture is very good for an LED, but it's the rest that make me think that Sony has gotten cheap! First this is a 3D 4K TV...but Sony doesn't give you 3D glasses with the unit...you must buy them! And, the Universal remote that comes with the unit isn't a universal remote at all. I had to buy a Harmony 350 remote to control all my devices (Cable box, AV receiver and Blue Ray player along with the Sony TV). I didn't mount my unit to the wall, but instead have it setting on a table. Th stand that comes with the TV is sad; it reminds me a bent thick wire hanger. Come on Sony you use to be better than this!

Great picture and now with the new update Netflix works. I was a little worried about the reviews, but after spending a good amount of time going through different settings I can say this is a great TV for the money. 3D is also great by the way. You can use any 3D active glasses and they should work. it worked fine with Samsung 3D active glasses.

    Looking for feedback

I just purchased this TV over the weekend. I have not installed it yet, I'm finishing up my built ins before I do. I went to the store to buy the Samsung JS9000 curve and I ran into the Sony rep at the store. I've never owned either a Sony or a Samsung product. To date the best TV I have owned and I am partial to it is a Panasonic plasma PT50OUT50, HD, smart, 3D TV. For an HD it is impressive and I like Plasma TV's. I think their true colors are awesome. When I was talking with the Sony rep and trying to compare in store, no doubt the Samsung has a great picture but in my opionion the colors are too vibrant, they almost look fake, kind of like watching a video game. Looking at the Sony, it seemed to have truer to life colors , the picture in store did look good. It's kind of hard to compare TV's when they are all playing their 4KHD material and you can't see it in live action. For example, I watch a ton of sports. I would have liked to see a live football game on both tvs to compare them too. Like I mentioned, I haven't installed it yet but before I do, I would like to see if I can get some feedback from someone who owns this tv, is the picture on the Sony not just good but great in live sporting events? Is the picture clear, detailed, etc? I do like the features that the Sony presents but ultimately I am buying a higher quality tv to watch it, not to get some specific apps, etc. I also do like the fact that you can get Sony updates when their available with their software, etc. I have geek squad scheduled to come out and go the set up. Just looking for some experience responses with this tv before I am out the install cost and if I don't like the picture quality in sporting events and fast paced movies and I would have to return it for another brand. Thanks in advance.

55" is the perfect size for my place. Huge improvement vs the 4 yr old 40" LCD I am replacing. The design is aesthetically pleasing and sleek. Screen is not much thicker than my phone. Brilliant color accuracy which Sony is known for. 4K and upconverted 1080p both look amazing. ARC hdmi connection to my Yamaha receiver works perfectly. Sound of the tv itself, adequate I suppose but I usually turn on my surround sound system so the sound is as good as the picture. 3D glasses were sold out so I have no comment yet on this feature but will enjoy using it. I have a roku which is good to have as a backup when the smart part of this tv acts up. I believe dedicated streamers like roku are more reliable than smart tvs. Although the amount of channels available on the tv itself is decent, it's still not close to what roku offers. Being able to use the 4k version of netflix is the one advantage of the tv since roku has not yet come out with 4k. Only nitpick to the picture is the slight "bleed" in the corners on black or grey screens. Not always noticeable (only at certain angles and at night with dim lighting) and I have read this is a common imperfection for all leds, especially edge lit ones like this model. However the overall uniformity is good and when I stop obsessing about this I stop noticing it. If I could rate this a 4.8 I would based on the minor imperfections, but this is way closer to a 5 than 4 to me.

I purchased this product on 11/4/15. After researching for a few months, I decided on this 4K set. So I went Best Buy and asked a Magnolia associate what panel he had and without giving him any notice of what I was thinking, he said 65" Sony 850c. After thinking a 65" would be too big for my apt I decided on the 55". It was the absolute quickest decision I've made on a bigger purchase. It practically sets itself up. Of course there was a learning curve as with anything new, it took some navigating through the options. The picture is great and the upscaling is awesome. The touchpad remote is pretty easy and cool but I barely use it. And "Football" mode is excellent and such a bonus. This TV doesn't disappoint.

I'm very impressed with my new TV. The setup was a breeze and it updates itself for all of the latest and greatest from SONY. The picture is phenomenal and I can't say enough about the voice command. ITS AWESOME!! The only reason I am giving this TV a 4 Star rating is that someone at Sony in their infinite wisdom decided to sell this 3D TV without any glasses!!! What's up with that?

    Excellent TV

This TV is absolutely fantastic. The 4K panel is insanely sharp, and the color accuracy in incredible. I was on the fence between this and the JS8500 from Samsung, but am ultimately happy with my final choice, as the colors on Samsung TVs are in my opinion a bit too vivid and therefore not lifelike (although you can't really go wrong with it either way). The fact that all 4 HDMI inputs are HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 compliant means this TV is future-proof for all the 4K content that is coming in the next few years. Also, ARC (Audio Return Channel) has been working great, and the audio is coming out of my Yamaha receiver and home theater system (can't really comment on the TVs audio, since I haven't ever used it!) CEC has also been working without any hiccups, and I'm using the TVs remote to control Android, my receiver and my Cable Box. Awesome! Android TV, the OS that runs this TV, is still in its early years, and it is definitely not perfect yet. However, the experience is fluid and everything seems to work OK. I expect the upcoming update to Android 6.0 to improve on the little things that are not yet polished for Android TV. Also, I wish there was a baked in browser (such as chrome), but there are options on the Play Store to install. All in all, it's a really good TV for the price, and I'm very happy with it.

So I got this Sony TV, thinking: "It's 4K and HDR-capable, so it must be good. The fact that it runs Android also seemed like a plus at the time. Boy, was I wrong. OS updates are tediously slow, apps don't run reliably and crash continuously. The USB ports on the TV seem to randomly power on and off so my bias-lighting led strip keeps turning on and off .

The tv construction quality is bad. After one year the HDMI cable no longer works. Sony will not fix it, as it's over one year and just out of warranty . Seriously? A $1,500 tv should have an HDMI connection that last more than 1 year. When you spend $1,500 for a tv you should get a quality product. I WILL NEVER BY A SONY PRODUCT AGAIN.

A really SMART 4K 3D TV and gorgeous picture

This is by far the best TV that I have ever bought. The 55" screen is bright and sharp for over the air AtlantaTV shows, our Tivo, Netflicks, and 3D + Blu-ray movies. The big screen is super for the over 70 crowd. The 3D movies are really better than in the theater. I think that there could be a better paper user guide for customers. Driving us to using the on-screen help menu is a little tough on the older generation. This TV is smarter than I am and it has incredible features. The most difficult part was installing this 55" in a 36" CRT cabinet and making if swivel and extend while maintaining great speaker sound. Sony needs to update their 3D glasses pairing process. The fastest and most efficient way is to: 1. Turn off the TV and then unplug it for 1 minute 2. Turn on the TV and press the "Home" menu button on the remote control 3. Press the Sony or Samsung 3D active glasses ON button for 2 seconds two feet from the TV. The alternating color LED lights will flash and then go Green to show Bluetooth pairing is good. The TV screen will say that the glasses are registered and you are good to go. 4. You do not have to turn on the 3D Blu-ray player or start the 3D content. The Sony on-screen 3D instructions also do not work for Samsung 3D glasses using the Sony instructions. The manufacturers should have made this easier because it is still a great visual enhancement with significant market interest.
