Wow - this is a beautiful picture and I am totally blown away by the picture quality. Got this on sale and am completely satisfied. Although some of the previous comments mentioned issues with the sound quality, it is okay for a slim style TV. I bought a sound bar, but it is not an absolute necessity.

    Sony Performance is Irratic

We bought this unit right after Christmas 2015 and it is a quirky unit at best. The "touch pad" remote control you might as well throw in the trash; it's comical design allows you to "turn the volume down" by turning the volume up. The finger touch pad ranges from sensitive to insensitive and bouncing you around the TV and switching you from HDMI inputs to cable input. The channel selector sends a signal so slow that when you click it 2-3 times you sort through 15 channels. The other day I turned off the unit, the screen went dark but the sound kept going. Had to turn the unit on and then off again to get the sound off. It's just an inconsistent machine. The screen resolution is fine and we have watched movies on it and they look fine. I expected a lot more for a 4k unit that costs what this did. I would wait for the next version that is coming out in 2016.

    Excellent TV

This is an excellent TV, setting up was easy, easier to learn the user interface. One thing to keep in mind that it is an Android TV so anything you want to do you may have to install an App to do it for example to play a video from your hard disk you may have to install VLC player or similar (for those who not familiar with android it would be like what the heck?!). 3D interface is not very easy though I had to try a lot to sync my 3D glasses with it. had to google a lot about it. But it worked eventually and 3D effect was very good. Though I still did not try it on a blueray player yet. The 4K is good, the available apps like Pluto has a channel that plays 4K content which is very good. The sound quality is good but recommend a sound bar or home theater system to get the best experience. Overall I am satisfied by the purchase and I recommend it.

I've had this tv for well over a year and find it nearly flawless. My only minor complaint is that youtube app sometimes will not open. I must open another app and then back out and try again. Picture is perfect .I love that you can darken the screen if you like listening to music or sounds of nature while you sleep. Best tv I've ever had.

Bought the 850 for Xmas. Picture quality is outstanding. Sound is good for TV but would benefit with a speaker set up if you want high end home theater sound. The software has been update at least a couple of times since I got it already and the Android capability allows a cheap tablet to be a high end remote. Highly recommend it so far.

Being a happy owner of an old rear projector Sony, I had high hopes for the TV but for the 2 weeks of ownership, I could not get the picture to look decent and put in way too many hours trying to do so, including researching on the Internet. I even tried a 4K HDMI which did nothing. No matter what settings I tried, the picture looked washed out, blurry, not vivid, not sharp, and blacks/whites were off - just unimpressive and unacceptable for a 4K TV. Some HD channels looked ok, not great, while others were lousy. I couldn't even look at the analog channels the pic was so blurry. The TV froze up within the first 2 hours of taking it out of the box, then again another day, which made me wonder the frequency of that issue. The remote is horrible with a round pattern within a round pattern (hard to explain) making it easy to hit the wrong buttons even with small fingers when working with the settings. On a positive side, I liked the sleek bezel and the matte screen, but that didn't outweigh the bad. We replaced this Sony with the Samsung 8500 reluctantly spending another $300, but I wanted to compare the two. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The Samsung's picture is gorgeous and it took less than 10 minutes to tweek it to our liking, though it looked good out of the box. Haven't experienced any issues thus far. Everything about the Samsung is superior to the Sony, IMO. No regrets here.

Best settings for football and hockey?

Purchased this TV yesterday. I mostly watch sports (hockey and football). I have been messing with the settings after watching the Wild game Vikes game. Wondering what are the best settings people have found. The TV is located in my living room (standard). I'm sitting 6-10' away. Again I really like the picture, just want others opinion.

Okay TV minus lack of apps and horrible pricing

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First the TV is okay minus the glare thats visible on the screen when light is present. App wise this TV needs help as there is almost no 4k content available. I bought it so I could use Netflix and since I picked it up on 5/4 I've yet to see anything in 4k much less a time frame when that would happen. I had a Samsung UHD that developed a line after a couple months but prior to that watching tv in 4k was nice! Really starting to doubt my choice. Now for Best Buy/Sony. I pre-ordered this tv less than 3 weeks ago for 2199 and less than 3 weeks later (before some places even have inventory) the price has been cut 600!!!!! I called in only to get fed the Best Buy corporate line of had you called last week we could have helped you but its too late now. Its a shame that compassion and caring for your fellow man have been replaced by faceless policies.

Great TV but I prefer Samsung

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this TV on Black Friday with a great deal for this and the Sony HT-NT3 soundbar (which is awesome). It was quite a complicated set up and a long update but a great quality TV. The issue I had (mind you I did not change the settings) was with sports. I am an avid sports fan and the screen was extremely grainy even on "live football mode" and I was not satisfied. It was so bad you could barely see the ball, the screen was not smooth at all. The Android TV was very user friendly and I liked the remote but I chose to return the TV and exchange it for the Samsung JS8500. In my opinion the Samsung is a huge improvement and I am very satisfied with this TV & sports on it. If you have the extra money buy the Samsung JS8500 you will not regret it. I am coming from a Samsung so I may be bias towards Samsung but me and my wife can see a clear improvement. This is a great TV but there are better out there.

    Expensive Dust Collector

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Who knew my $2,300 (TV, cable, delivery/set-up, and expensive MA) purchase would be nothing more than a dust collector. Bought this Smart TV 31 Jul 15. The set was delivered 11 Aug, but the Geek Squad Agent couldn’t get it to work. Six days later another Geek Squad Agent gets the TV, but not the WiFi/Internet to work. They said the problem was Comcast. Had to arrange an appointment to get Comcast and Geek Squad out at the same time, so Comcast could show Geek Squad it wasn’t a Comcast problem. Now 10 weeks after it first operated and < 90 days since purchase, I have a dumb TV that has been completely rebuilt; have met every Geek Squad Agent in metro Atlanta; and am on another 2-week operational hiatus while parts (hopefully) come from China. When it works, the TV is absolutely incredible, but nothing is worth the hundreds of hours spent on the phone; waiting in 4-hr windows for Geek Squad Agents to show up and say I got a lemon; watching the TV be taken apart, every part replaced, and reassembled. And still no TV! We’ve probably had a functional Smart TV for 10 days since purchase. Completely blacks out and won’t restart; WiFi doesn’t work when everything else in the house does; sound stops, and several times an hour, when it does operate, the TV stops, the picture blacks, and then it begins again. These constant “interruptions” are not present on the DVR recordings. Now Geek Squad says they can do no more and we have to deal with Sony. So this will be the last Sony and the last TV purchase I make from Best Buy.

Before buying that Sony to watch the SuperBowl

I hope if you are in the market for a 4K smart TV you read this before buying a Sony. First, I have been a dedicated Sony customer for 20+ years, never had a problem and never needed service. I bought a XBR 55X850B on Feb 26, 2015. The picture is fantastic, however whenever we tried to watch Netflix it would lose connection. Sometimes work for 10 minutes and sometimes an hour. I went out and purchased a new Linksys 1900 AC dual band router -The problem persisted on either band. I have Comcast Blast the speed is 90+ Mbps. The router is located on the 2nd floor, my smart Visio in basement plays Netflix fine and so does my Apple TV that sits next to the Sony. I started calling Sony in October for help. They assigned an E61876553 and tried numerous changes - reset the TV to factory specs, changed the Primary and Secondary DNS. They finally sent out a tech to change out the "WiFi" card. He showed up with a new Mother Board, he called they told him to change it out anyway. When he turned the set on to Netflix it had SOMEONE ELSES LOGON INFO, INCLUDING PASSWORD. Now I know they can use reconditioned parts but this board was pulled from another set and sent to use in my set, doubtful they ever checked it out. To make matters worse, now when you check System info, the model number and serial number do not match my set. AND I still have the problem, it continues to lose internet connection. They asked me to try another reset, I did, change some settings I did, no luck. Last week they asked me to take pics of the back of the set and the screen showing the wrong info and someone would call me in 24 hours. I'm still waiting on that call, looks like I'm stuck with this $1800 SONY TV that does not work! I'm made many calls and been very patient, but can tell you it will be my last Sony, unless this gets their attention. I'm still under warranty, for what that is worth.

The TV looks great, got it with the Sony soundbar and sub. However the TV is extremely buggy. When running the TV it will crash and randomly reboot. The Google App store is so small it really should not be advertised/ a selling point. When connecting my computer Via HDMI cable, the resolution will not work at 3840x2160. Chosing this causes the TV to reboot, 2560x1440 or 1600 also does not work, causes a reboot. My $600 cheap 4k samsung TV actually runs those resolutions great without any issues. If I didn't get a such a deal on this I would have returned it. Again picture good, sound ok, features bad.

My 3rd return on those Sony TV"s :(

First of all, i do want to say that i have a lot of Sony product, one in particular that I love and recommend highly, the Sony projector VPL-HW 40ES , and that is a winner hands down! ( owned for a year now )...As far as that tv model, it was basically a disaster and highly disappointed customer, Picture was stunning looking straight at it, BUT it stops right here, cause if you want to sit at an angle it looses all color, looks awful, the OS was mainly my decision on returns, as it froze almost everyday, had to unplugged tv quiet frequently to get the tv to restart, as it will freeze and not respond at all.....wifi was not the best as well and i can assure you that i have blast internet with comcast and tv was at about 15 feet from it, had no reason to loose connection as my other devices never looses it!....So i had to bring it back, and all this happened in less of a week after buying it, was very lucky that it didnt happen after the 15 days return policy or would have been stuck with this disaster!...Im waiting now for the new model of 2016, 850D series and hopefully i would not have to deal with same problems, im crossing my fingers that SONY took responsibilities and fix all those bugs! I rated one star only for picture quality looking straight at it!...otherwise I would not have gave it even 1 star! Sorry Sony, but you did pretty bad on that one, you dont have my vote!
