    GREAT PICTURE, BUT....

Not sure if I have a dude, but the picture has awesome blacks, but when the screen first comes on, or changes inputs, there are numerous white, cloudy spots all over the screen, mainly around the corners, although, not actually at the corner, about 2-3 inches away, and some around the center. It's very annoying. Remotes freeze up frequently as well.

I bought a Samsung ju6700 and returned it to purchase this Sony based on the faster refresh rate and better colors. I have to admit, that if I would have known the Sony didn't ship with the ability to stream in 4k I would have kept the Samsung. So you buy a 4k TV and can't get content, what is the point, right? I may have to return it and get the Samsung again. It ships with all the apps, and they work. My advice is to wait for Sony to update with working apps or buy the Samsung. I am disappointed in Sony, and I am a big Sony fan.

I bought this TV Sept. 19, 2015. I have it hooked up to a Directv HR 44 HD DVR. The motion blur is horrible, and the colors are not vivid enough for me. It looks like the very first lcd TVs. Grainy picture, and not very bright. I called Geek Squad, hoping to get help with adjustments, I feel like it just needs fine tuning. They refused to help, and told me if I didn't like it, to return it. The Samsungs have a way better picture, but this tv was supposed to be better built, and has more features.

Loyal Sony fan, have purchased their Bravia models in the past, never had a single issue in my history with them. Bought this TV more for the smart functionality than anything, love having Netflix and Amazon Prime instant video at the push of a button, plus they have some 4K content to stream which looks amazing. Can't wait until there's more of it!

I purchased this TV and was immediately disappointed because it could not do what I was told to do. It did not have a browser that worked., nor did it have many of the apps we were promised. The processor was fast and the picture is good most of the time. However, periodically the screen would turn gray and we had to unplug the TV and plug it back in again in order to correct the problem. Also, the smart remote would not pair and did not work at all and the remote with the buttons would freeze occasionally. Also, the screen would freeze sometimes and we would have to turn it off and back on again to get it to unfreeze. We had the TV for more than two weeks before we got fed up and traded it in on a Samsung JS8500. If the TV had worked as it was supposed to, it would've been great.

I purchased the Sony XBR55x850C on 2/23/2016. This replaced my first 4k Sony set the XBR55x850a. My first Sony had a wonderful picture, and I was extremely happy with it. The reason I replaced it with the XBR55x850C was the 4k streaming abilities. My hopes were set very high for my new set. Sadly those hopes were dashed upon unboxing the new set and playing with it for awhile. First, I hate the new google menu. It is too hard to navigate and too cluttered. To find the settings to change things is too difficult. It takes to many steps to change simple settings. Changing the color or the sound settings with my old set it was very simple and streamlined. With this new set and the google interface it was not very smooth at all. Second, the picture quality on my first XBR55x850a was far superior to the picture quality in the XBR55x850C. This really showed when I watched tv during the day. At night the XBR55x850c had a phenomenal picture but during the day.. it sucked. The black levels were nowhere near the quality of my old set. The white levels also were better on my old set. Even when calibrated the picture settings were still not as good as my old set. Now the 4k content was amazing I will say that about the XBR55x850C. It felt like I could reach right into the tv. The picture was that clear. After careful consideration I decided to return the XBR55x850C. I purchased the Samsung UN55JS8500 as a replacement. This set is what I was expecting, and I am very happy with it. I will review that set as well.(MKP)

Thought i got a great deal buy purchasing this TV. Turn out it wasn't that great. The picture quality is really awesome, but the sound quality really suck. You need a sound bar to go with it. Which means more money. also this TV is a 3D TV. Which you would expect it comes with 3D glasses which it does not. You have to purchase that separately. Means more money. Overall don't get a 3D TV with out the glasses.

Good colors, but jumpy motion flow/popping noises

I researched many 4k TVs. Narrowed it down to the Sony 850C and the Samsung 7100. Both the same price. Similar features. But I've had good experience with Sony products in the past. So went with this Sony 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately, Sony dropped the ball on this TV. Pros: Upscaling is nice. Colors are fantastic after adjusting settings. Movies are getting better - Netflix was just added on May 31. Cons: 1) Motion control is very jumpy (tried all setting combinations). Example, when words scroll across the bottom of screen, it literally jumps across. 2) TV randomly jumps to Movie selection menu, while watching regular TV. Called Sony support, and their solution was to unplug the TV and wait 2 min, before reconnecting. 3) there is a prolonged popping or cracking noise coming from the back of the TV. From other reviews, this is normal during the "warm up" period, for the back plastic to heat up and expand. But it continues for 30-45 min. Very annoying. I have not tried the 3D since there were no glasses included. Overall, Disappointed with this TV, but not so bad to try and return.

Excellent TV, decided to upgraded and I have 0 complaints. This is replacing a 5-6 year Sony KDL52W4100 which was no slouch. I'm working on calibration as far as getting the brightness and color where I like them, but WOW the upscaling is fantastic. It makes all my HD content feel new I can't wait to get some actual 4K content going! Also the Apps and software via Android and Google play are great. The 2 included remotes, a touchpad RF remote and IR standard remote are awesome options as well. I went with this over the comparable Samsung models because the colors felt to unrealistic but thats about all it came down to. I would have liked passive 3D as opposed to Active since the glasses are so expensive but that would have required a step up to the 900c model which has reports of edge light bleeding issues. Also I love that Sony upgraded this to HDR out the box. Smooth and easy software to operate! Great Job Sony and thanks Best Buy for making this easy and having my order on time!!

A smart TV that doesn't even have Netflix, Hulu, etc..? It says you have to wait for May 2015 during the software update...um, it's only 2 days until June. How could Sony launch a TV that doesnt have the basic streaming services ready to go? Ah Sony, I'll take 4 pairs of 3D glasses to make up for you lack of attention to detail with the online content.

Excellent TV barring one major flaw

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

All in all this is an excellent TV. However, I've got a fundamental issue. The TV won't update to the latest firmware update. The TV still has the old firmware PKG2.093.0010EUB. I've tried installing the latest firmware such as 1) With wi-fi internet connection 2) With ethernet connection Note: Both 1 & 2 comes from having fibre broadband and I know the internet connection is working ok on TV as can download apps and watch YouTube videos. 3) USB stick which has been formatted and followed Sony's USB installation instructions When trying to download the software update using internet connection, when the download gets to 86% it stops and comes up with error message "An error occurred during the system update. The update server is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Error 2123." When trying to download the software update using USB stick, again, at 86% it restarts the TV but the firmware still not updated. We've tried turning the TV power off before the update and back on again but to no avail. We've also done a factory reset on the TV but still no luck. Being able to get the latest update and also update future firmware releases is a fundamental part of getting the best out of the TV. Not sure what to do next.

Hello DamoD! Thank you for bringing this to our attention, we would like to recommend to try downloading and installing the firmware update through a USB device once again by following the steps available through the link below. Before you transfer the firmware update downloaded from our site make sure that you have extracted the update file from the Zip to transfer it to the formatted USB drive in FAT32 as suggested in the steps: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=XBR55X850C&upd_id=10385&os_group_id=18 If the issue persists, please email us at [email protected] and include your contact information, model, serial number with a description of the issue you are experiencing with this unit. ~ Jeannette Sonystyle

Starts out great then brings on the disappointment

First off I am a home movie enthusiast with a need for having perfect home theater setup. With that said, the grievances I have may not be as big a deal to those who are just watching cable or sports. My usual usage for this TV is at night in a very dark room. This TV was supposed to be an upgrade from our 3 yr old Samsung LCD however I find that I get a more uniform picture with the older set. I’ll Break this up into two quick sections. The Good: AndroidTV- I’ve read a lot of people complaining about the Android system but coming from an Android phone I actually enjoy the experience especially having the ability to cast to the TV without having to change my source. The only issue I’ve had so far was with the YouTube app not loading the video but that maybe due to my cable system. Picture- When the source is true 4k the picture is amazing. Color accuracy is actually quite good however I did need to do some adjustment with my colorimeter but over all it looks great. Motion blur so far has not been an issue. Black levels for an LCD are quite good as well. Watching in a fairly bright room with out direct light on to the panel is great. The Bad- Sound- While the sound level is acceptable for a flat panel TV I have noticed some lag when hooked up to a receiver. I was able to correct the very minor delay on the receiver but less experienced people may find this a bit more frustrating. Picture- Initially when we received the X850c the blacks were uniform and the DSE (dirty screen effect) was very minimal only thing noticeable was a little flashlight effect on the sides (which I have already anticipated). However, after using this TV for a week there is some clouding that is starting to appear on the right side and vertical banding that displays on darker screen. If you watch in a well lit room you may not notice however when we watch movies in the dark the lines are borderline distracting. We spent extra on this model because it had the option for HDR and 3D but those are hardly worth the price tag. HDR content is few and far between and the 3D just exacerbates the vertical lines when we watch. (not to mention it doesn’t even come with glasses). The only reason I don’t rate this TV a 1 is because it is usable during the day for the most part. The colors are great and I’m sure if it wasn’t boarder line defective this would be a hard TV to beat. I would try to get it switch for another one but they are out of stock and after reading more reviews I’m afraid will be stuck with an even worse performing one. If you have time on your hands you might be able to gamble with this set and hit the panel lottery, but if you are busy person and can’t wait around every few days for a delivery truck to drop off an expensive may will be awesome may be not TV you might want to look for another model. I’m really sad that it seems Sony’s QC has gone down just like the rest of the makers out there.
