Great Buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did not buy from Best Buy because I have a friend who sells elsewhere but the Best Buy salesman was great and I did buy peripherals from him. I have had the tv for two weeks and really like it. I replaced the same size Bravia for this and wanted a 65 inch but didn't have the room for it. The picture is great but I don't see a big difference in the upscaling. The sound is a little worse but ok for us without a sound bar as my wife doesn't want it blasting anyway. The thing I like the best is that I can hit a button and go right to internet apps. It even has a button to go right to Netflix. I used to fool around with a Fire Stick and half the time I had to unplug it or it wouldn't recognize my router. This works great. I added Kodi which expands offering. Great tv for the money

Beautiful Picture, terrible software
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Every TV I own is a Sony. Always been very happy with their product. I think this TV has a beautiful picture, but I think Sony has dropped the ball on this model. The biggest issue I have is the way it locks up. You suddenly have no picture but the sound continues. You cannot change modes to resolve. It must be unplugged and allowed to reboot. This happens very often.I purchased this TY on 11/26/2015 for my disabled son. He does not have the ability to unplug & reboot the system which frustrates him. I've had at least 3 firmware updates that did not resolve the issue. I hope Sony is able to resolve this issue as we love the their product.

Beware- no user manual!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this TV two weeks ago at Best Buy because of the incredible picture. I am having a hard time figuring out how to use its many features because there is no documentation, neither with the TV or online. There is a reference manual to show you how to hook it up and connect it, but that is it.

Waste of money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As far as I'm concerned this TV is junk. The android operating system is constantly malfunctioning. Google cast and screen mirroring only work occasionally. Menus freeze up. The audio is also delayed from the picture, even on the built in smart apps. I even had it exchanged out and have had the same issues on both units. Either Sony is in need of a software update or they're selling a faulty product. I'm highly disappointed with the money I wasted on this. It's a shame because it does have a very good picture.

I wanted to love it....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did alot of research before buying the Sony 850C TV on black Friday deal. All I can say is I'm soooo glad best buy started the sales early. Easy to set up, watched it for a day and it froze up twice. I read other reviews where this was a problem, so begrudgingly I decided to go with the Samsung 8500. Wow am i glad I did. Sony was a good picture but the Samsung was AMAZING! The sound on the Sony was kinda hard to hear, I kept having to turn it up. The Samsung was really good, even sounds like surround kind of when I am not using my real.surround. The drawback....had to take the first Samsung back because the module u plug the components into was bad. I guess the third TV was the charm. No problems with this one, decided to get the extended warranty just in case.

Good choice at this price point
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did a bunch of research on line to narrow my choices and this seemed to be the best value for a 55" UHD. The Triliminos technology does make a difference and it's worth the upgrade over the 830. The UHD on this is stunning. I'm sure there are better TVs out there, but I'm very satisfied with this one at this price.

Wonderful color, excellent choice for Sony Bravia
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm very happy with this 4K Sony TV for use with my Bravia receiver and Blu-ray player. It's simplified my life. I calibrated the TV with ColorHCFR and an i1Pro puck to get perfect color.

Sony 55" 4K Ultra HD TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this tv about two weeks ago because I haven't had good luck with Samsung TVs. I must admit, this tv is NOT near as "bright" as my other Samsung TVs. As someone said earlier, this tv doesn't come with a manual; you kinda have to figure out everything for yourself. This particular model played really well in the BestBuy store but I suspect it was 4K broadcast. I have direct tv and I do not think it has a better picture than my other Samsung tvs of comparable price. I've tried all the settings and can't seem to make the overall tv picture brighter. In the bestbuy store, the display tv was showcasing Sony's Triluminous feature. My tv is not that vivid. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I'm not overly impressed.

Latest firmware ruined this tv
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this TV in November it was missing 1 screw from the tabletop stand, called Sony and they said they would send me a replacement screw, but never did. I just hope the tv does not fall without all the screws holding it up. Next they did a firmware update on Nov 21 and it ruined the 3D wiith a flashing box in the left corner that says wide full that pops up every few seconds during playback with My Sony 3D bluray player I bought same day. Sony support has been terrible so far, and I should of bought a samsung or LG..... Can anyone tell me where I can get a screw for the tabletop stand. what part number at a hardware store, since Sony will not support the TV?

Big Time 3-D problems
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am writing to review the “XBR-55X850C”. HOWEVER, I have read multiple web pages that state this problem is happening with all Sony 3-D televisions, in the United States AND Europe, and that customers are not receiving ANY customer service, or any help from Sony whatsoever. I have called 3 times and have been hung up on each time. So, if you are looking for a great 3-D experience and excellent SONY customer service, LOOK ELSEWHERE. Sony rolled out an update for this television at the end of November of 2015. After the update, when viewing 3-D content, the display mode function of the current screen is continuously showing the current screen mode of the television. ALL THE TIME. Coming in and out up to 7 times a minute. So, while watching a 3-D movie, every 5 to 60 seconds, the words “Wide Mode Full” flashes on the screen in the lower left hand corner. It NEVER stops. Sony is aware of this problem, unfortunately, Sony customer service is rude & unhelpful with this issue. They claim that “Sony is aware of this and is working on an update”. When I asked when the update would be released, Sony representatives claim they do not know when this update will be available. Every Sony representative has hung up on me after not being able to satisfactorily answer the simplest of questions. Anyone looking for a great 3-D experience, look elsewhere. Sony does not care about this problem. After all, they already have our money. If you think this is the same old Sony with great products, high standards, and great customer service, THINK AGAIN! This is not your father’s Sony. This is the new, corporate Sony that just wants your money. Everyone out there looking for a good 3-D T.V. should stick with Samsung. I wish I did. I thought I was “upgrading” from Samsung to Sony.

MOVIE THEATER IN YOUR HOME
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Set up was easy. My husband and my 16 year old son. We're finished in less than 10 minutes. The picture was a total upgrade from the sony bravia we had purchased 7 years ago. My 3 daughters ages 10 and 4 love watching you tube and blue ray movies. Every weekend we look forward to streaming movies on amazon or Netflix and sitting down and watching them together. I know we made an awesome choice.

Sony finally listening and playing fast catch up.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.(excuse caps) I brought my first Sony TV way back In 1983, when you could get 12 channels at once, Old CRT YES PIP...yes 2/3 one channel live and 11 channels all along the top left hand screen down to bottom right hand screen along the edge, still pictures but lapsing every 5 seconds. but anyway it was great back then, but I kept on eye on Sony since and nothing stood out until just in last 3 yrs they have finally been kicking it up IN full gear. I was deeply disappointed that LCD/LED was not great on Sony screen. I finally got a this sony 55xbr850C and I got to give it up to them.. Screen OUTSTANDING, Internet OUTSTANDING. Black-Light OUTSTANDING. contrast/brightness OUTSTANDING.4K Great, but that also depends on the cable providers service, I wish I had FIOS (now a Retiree Living here In Florida), but no Jive Turkey Fios on my side of the block, because Fios ( FTTP FIBER TO THE PREMISE Pure Fiber) is A gazillion times better would Look Great On this TV,Fiber does come directly into to your house or on the side of the house then cable which is also fiber in some but not all areas but does Not come directly into to your house or on the side of the house,) Anyway Volume Good not great. Bottom Line, Worth the price. You will be extremely pleased. I've had it exactly one month. No issues at all.

Turned out to be a bad choice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Based on Best Buy employee recommendations and viewings at the store we chose this TV. Many software problems - kept going from TV input to Crackle. THEN [like ghostwolf review of 11/3]] the set suddenly develops vertical lines and dark spots. Sony WILL NOT honor a warranty claim, SO I will junk this TV and buy a Samsung. Vow NEVER to buy another Sony product EVER!! $1500 WASTED AND it was only 4 months old

Better than expected
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You see all these tvs in the store, but you really don't know which one to pick. Of course you don't know what the picture quality is until you get it home. The demo videos they play make every tv look great. So I brought this one home and hooked everything up to it. The picture quality is great! I love playing HD movies on it and with the added sound bar, there is no reason to go to the movies anymore!
