nothing good about this tv
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I thought I was going to be blown away but NAH so it is going back to the store. So unhappy with this TV. Channels take FOREVER to change and TV goes cartoon looking (sketched) several times until you completely shut down and update the software (takes forever).

Decent TV - Terrible Computer Monitor
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The TV itself is okay. If you are playing your PS4 or Xbone its also going to work okay. If you want to use this as a computer monitor (like I did) its terrible. It needed a lot of tweaking with my color settings and the settings within windows to get it to look right, but the worst part is it will somehow lose the HDMI signal randomly, and quite often. I did a lot of troubleshooting with different HDMI cords and reinstalled the firmware for the TV etc. and none of it made a difference. When I returned it, the TV guy said a lot of sony's have this problem because the smart features will 'interrupt' the signal. All in all, Im sad this did not work out. Do not buy this TV if you intend to use it as a monitor.

Great choice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did much research before buying this tv. I must say it is excellent. Picture quality is great, netflix, amazon and youtube work well, although not in 4k, yet (needs firmware update). 3D looks amazing, fyi no 2d to 3d conversion, although the new sony bluray players have that feature, so just buy one of those if you really want it. The best part of this tv is that is uses google. Therefore you can side load apps, in my case, Kodi (aka XBMC), now thats worth every penny. I highly recommend this tv, once Sony gets all the firmware updates out and straighten out the MINOR bugs it'll be truly excellent.

Excellent wide color gamut TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just bought a Sony XBR 55X850C a week ago for my personal space. I'm doing some baseline visual adjustments and setting the black level and contrast (white levels )to 16 -255 with AVS HD 709 calibration images /and to my preferences as well for now . This panel has good dynamic range and doesn't clip whites in bt709 until about 252 and maintains a reference .016 black while doing that and can get decently bright maybe 285 cd/m2 max @ 50% white FWIW I suspect it can get much brighter with HDR /bt2020 content it seems like it and the highights are decently bright and extremley detailed in HDR as well . So far the panel passed all the murder tests like uniformity grey scale and color banding very well only some very insignificant banding and DSE common to any LCD and significantly less than most . I calibrated it then tweaked a few different modes and color spaces to my preference from the baseline calibrations and left strict (but brighter ) calibrations in Cinema pro and Cinema home modes for night /day respectively. It has several color space and picture modes including Auto ,srgbt709 and DCI (digital movie theater) and bt2020 color spaces ,Cinema home ,Cinema pro and HDR picture modes and more as well as a few graphics modes and some others . The set has a lot of features and controls or you can put it on auto pilot or you can really improve it with some effort either way it's a terrific set IMO . I usually prefer a custom standard mode outside of real HDR content for each input /source . It has a wide 10 bit color gamut with the appropriate content in bt2020 , DCI and HDR color space modes. The 55X850C plays [ real 4K HDR downloads] from my 3 TB external USB hdd pretty well IMO and well beyond what a non HDR set can do including my Samsung Plasma and a decnt 1080p Sony here. It can make astounding colors and pictures if you feed it right ! The 1080p > 4K 2160p as well as 720p > 2160p upscaling is very good and 480p DVD's look fine also,480i *anything not so much but it never does on a 2160p 55" anyway. I get content from OTA ,Dish SAT ,Netflix & Amazon Prime streaming ,Roku extender and the embedded custom Sony/Android apps and as an extended PC screen and BD/PS3 IOW it's connected . All in all I'm pretty well impressed with it and with the right content even clean 1080i/1080p it beats my Samsung 64f8500 plasma in the Family room and that's saying something and then some for an LED/LCD not too many sets can do that or even match it !

SONY 4K 850C CLARITY!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So after having the X850C for about a week now I have to say we are very pleased. Out of the box the Sharpness needed to be dialed down some. I ended up between 45-50. I use VIVID and tweaked some of the picture settings. There is also another key setting to keep a lookout for after you hit the HOME button. It's under Picture and Display after you tap Settings. Go to Dynamic Range. Pause your image and toggle between LIMITED and FULL. Depending on your source one will blow the other out of the water. Image looked a little cloudy but after changing it blacks looked great and the image was full of POP! Also for best results turn the Light a Sensor off. SETTINGS: PIC mode: VIVID Brightness 47 light Sensor OFF Color 60 Black level 47 Black adjust High adv Contrast Enhancer High Color Temp Neutral Color space Auto Live Color High Sharpness 45 to 50 Noise reductions LOW (Blu-Ray OFF) MOTIONFLOW CUSTOM - SMOOTHNESS 1 and CLEARNESS Min Obviously you can tweak yourself to your personal taste. We are exceptionally happy with the clarity and motion. DirecTV looks good on all HD channels. Sports look terrific. Hockey you can keep up with the puck easily. Basketball the ball is not as blurry in the air. Football should be terrific as well. Can't wait to see the grass this season! Blu-Ray movies are like looking through a window. As for 3D we didn't mind it. We did pick up our own TDG 400A glasses from eBay. Movies looked pretty good with minimum to none crosstalk. As for streaming it looked very good. I was impressed! Google works reasonably well but internet features will depend on your signal. My TV has firmware updated twice. First one took a hour. Second one 25 minutes. Oh another cool feature we like is the Daydream Mode. You can change your TV screen into a classy looking photographer's best work! Definitely a conversation starter during a party or with any company over at the time. The biggest gripe I have is there is not an easy quick SLEEP TIMER short cut. Though it does have many options once you get there. Leaving off on a positive note I love the PIC OFF button on the remote. If I am watching something questionable you can hide the image at the press of a button! Love it!!! With a little bit of tweaking this midrange 4K Smart TV can look very close to a high end model. At the current sale price it is a steal!!!

TV's this expensive should last more than a year
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this TV in April 2016 and now just a year and a half later my panel went out and the TV is unrepairable. That is unacceptable in my eyes.

Great while it lasted...17 months
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After 17 months, the TV just died. 6 red blinks of doom, which is apparently not an uncommon thing for Sony TVs at the year and a half mark. Loved the compatibility with other devices hooked up to it. 3rd TV from Best Buy in 8 years. Not a great track record. Don't ever buy a TV from Best Buy without at least a 3-4 year service plan, because it's not going to outlast the warranty. :)

Not worth the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Returned this to get non 4K version. Did not think the price was worth the product. No more outstanding picture than regular 1080 version. Triluminous color was a nice feature.

Poor design
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound bar blocks the on off on the tv. I had to spend another $185 to buy a riser. Very disappointing in design and in salesman who pushed this product

Sony delivers again
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did a lot of research before buying the TV. This is my third Sony TV in the last 10 years. This TV is bought for the future. The ultra high def and the 4K are limited right now in the amount of media available. But is the media becomes available the TV is ready to go. This TV has every I was looking for, 4K ultra high DEF and 3-D. I spent an extra couple hundred bucks to get the upgraded picture and it was well worth it . This is without a doubt the best picture I've heard on the TV ever add on the TV. I tweak the settings a little bit to make the picture even better. But out of the box it was really set to go.I don't believe there's a better tv on the market for the price that delivers everything this TV delivers. I waited a week to write a review just to make sure that I am absolutely ecstatic with the set. Best Buy have the best price and the best service.

Sony XBR55X850C (Bad Design)
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony XBR55X850C is the worst TV I ever had. The Sony XBR55X850C (made in mexico) last 5 years and then the 6 blinking red lights happened and the TV failed. The picture was cloudy and the operating system was complicated too. This TV was replace by a LG CX.
