    Good picture, horrible software

Picture on this TV is great. The software, however, is another story. I've had it for about a month, and more often than not, it acts like an old computer that needs to be replaced. Extremely unresponsive, freezes at times, etc.

I bought this this tv and I love it. Everything about it is good. Except for the sound. It's okay sound. But nothing a soundbar can't fix. I love that I can cast my pictures and movies to it

    Extremely Buggy OS!!!!!!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I really wanted to like this TV. The 55-inch size and display is awesome and the deal offered seemed too good to pass up. But I was wrong. I can only give this TV one or two stars because the Android TV OS is buggy as anything. In the few weeks, I’ve been using it, I’ve encounter far too many bugs to list all here. But these vary and range from slow sluggish response; TV Antenna input not tuning or working when switching from a streaming channel; TV Channel sound suddenly not working when switching from a streaming channel; having to hard reboot (unplug the TV and plug it back in) to fix some of these issues; no sound output when using an external speaker and switching from streaming channel to TV mode; HBO Go refusing to stream and generating and error, etc etc etc. The TV even spontaneously came on one evening. That was weird. Yes, I immediately updated the OS software when setting up the TV so I’ve been using the latest. But it was a matter of an hour when I encountered the first bug. And through a few weeks of use, I constantly encountered sluggish slow buggy operation of this TV and it’s user interface. The user interface itself can use some work as its not intuitive and very clunky. Sorry Sony, I expected so much better from you on this TV. I will now try either a Roku TV or a Samsung TV in this price range.

Some cautions before buying a 4K TV.

Thought I would upgrade to a 4K TV and bought this Sony. My picture is worse than the Samsung I had. Went to get an upgraded box from my satellite provider to support my new 4K TV. Well, was told I do not have RG6 wiring in the house to support the new upgraded box/TV. I would need to rewire the house for this. I wish I had known this before I bought the TV. Now I have a more expensive TV and the picture is worse than TV's half the price. Possibly your salespeople should advise people wanting a 4K TV.

This TV has an array of features and it has a noticeably better picture than full hd tvs. It does not however have 4k hdr capabilities. It is a good starter 4k tv.

    Not Worth the Sale Price

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this TV after failed attempts at experimenting with lesser brands. After reading all of the great reviews and seeing blacks and motion handling as pros for the 700D, I thought I couldn't go wrong. I thought I had finally found the best TV for under $1,000. What I actually had purchased was a TV that froze whenever I went to change the volume while watching something on an app. I got a TV with terrible clouding and horrific contrast in black and dark scenes. I got a TV with a buggy UI, terrible pixelation problems with motion handling, and unnatural, harsh colors on SD content - even after HDR and proper calibration. If you watch a lot of TV, care about what your eyes are looking at, and want to say you spent your money well, then my recommendation would be to shell out a bit more money and go for the 900E from Sony's BRAVIA line. Can't go wrong with that TV. If not the 900E, go for the Vizio P55-E1. It's not much more than the sale price of this TV and it has technology equipped to handle motion and eliminate clouding, etc.

    TV won't recognize Wifi

The Best Buy sales person told me that this TV is DirecTV 4K compatible and it isn't (which makes me EXTREMELY unhappy with Best Buy), however I really want to like this TV. I'm a loyal Sony customer but this TV absolutely will not recognize my Wifi network when every other electronic device -- PC or Apple -- will recognize the network.

Overall, I'm fairly satisfied. A few cons though: the interface can be slow at times, especially using Sony's own Playstation Vue app. Also, I was a little disappointed in it's incompatability with my surround sound system and the inconsistency in being about to control it or activate it.

    Black levels

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I usually like sony tv's but this particular model is not that great, for one the black levels suck on this model. The last model I owned had better black levels than this model, and I don't know why but this model seems cheaper as far as materials use to make the tv. The black levels seems like a older laptop where you can see light coming through the dark part of the screen. I tried to adjust the setting with the brightness and the black levels, but got nowhere. If you have the tv in a brightly lit room then this probably won't bother you, but my living isn't that well lit.

    Sony disappoints

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I wasn't really in the market for a new TV. I currently own a Sony Bravia 46" LCD HD TV and have had no problems with it for 6 years now. So, I get curious and start reading about the new, fantastic 4k UHD, Smart LED, Blah, Blah, Blah TV's. I read all the reviews from consumers like you and me and the so-called professional reviews. What I found in my experience, is just because the Majority of people Like or Love their new TV, that doesn't mean you will! So, I ask plenty of questions, get them answered (I think?) and then pull the trigger on the Sony XBR55x700D. I get it home and set it up, which wasn't too bad. I hook up the HDMI cable from my Laptop to the HDMI-1 port and connect the RCA plugs (2) for my Logitech speaker system. I power on the TV and it goes through it's 1st time setup. I agree to the Google policy (so I can actually use the TV). If you choose "Skip" or "No", guess what? You can't use your New TV! And there is NO Warning about this! I got this from someone else's posted review. OK, the TV is ready to go...(Please Dazzle me!)...No such luck...I don't see the Image from my Laptop on the TV? Only the Desktop photo and Icons. Funny, this shows up on my old Bravia 46". Ok, let's try Amazon Prime, since I have an account.. After "clicking" my brains out, typing in my User Name & Password from the Remote, I'm logged in and choose a TV show. It starts playing and looks "incredible!" but that''s the intro to the show, once the show starts, the picture goes to "Blah!". I try changing the Picture modes and all that does is change the Brightness. I keep watching and Presto! the Jittering starts. People are just talking and moving slowly and their mouths and heads are hesitating Really Badly! OK, let's try a movie. Presto#2...NO Jitter and an actual Sharp picture (Incredible!). I wind up watching the whole movie with no issues. So I find I can't play DVD's on my Laptop and have them show up on the TV via the HDMI cable and my Logitech surround sound doesn't work either. All this stuff works on my old Bravia. For $700 this TV is Horrible! Bye Bye...sad excuse for a TV.

    Poor TV

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Opened the TV hooked it up and it was garbage! I was up sold to it by an not very knowledgeable of the product sales rep. What stinks is the LG I wanted at the time the rep told me didn't have HDR but it really did and I spent more because he lied or obviously had no idea what he was talking about. Second I told him I wanted smooth clear motion and he swore up and down how good Sony was and it was better than 120 come to find out from another salesman when I brought the Sony back its not 120 its a 60hz panel. Worst is after talking to the new rep upon return and listing to what I want from a TV he suggested an LG and it was only $100 more than I spent. Well that was on sale when I bought the Sony and guess what, the day I brought it back the LG went up $300 dollars. So I figure out no big deal. I purchased the Sony at the recommendation of your sales rep who told me btw that the Sony he sold me VS the LG that went up 300 bucks was no comparison and I would save 100 bucks getting the Sony and have a better TV and hes dead wrong but I am sure you will honor the price the TV was when I purchased the Sony, Nope sorry sir. If you want this LG you will have to pay this much and we got you out of 300 bucks. The LG makes the Sony look like an old knob dial tube TV. Every time you change the channel with the Sony you will have to adjust the screen and the picture will still look like garbage. DO not buy these Sony TV's. LG is much better. Needless to say I am done shopping at best buy!

TV just up and died on me

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

So i bought this TV around April of last year, and up until recently it has worked great! never really pushed the 4K aspect of it, but it did its job. As of yesterday, it died on me, out of nowhere. I've done all the simple fixes i can without tearing the thing apart. Also, the most recent update on this TV made it slower than i could have ever imagined it could be.

My 1080p TV has a better picture

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this TV after reading the reviews and comparing to other Sonys in the store. I understand this TV is at the lower end of the Sony 4K TV's but the picture quality was terrible. It did not compare to what I saw in the store nor to my existing Sony 1080p TV. I spent about an hour adjusting the settings, I did the software update and it did not improve. I ended up returning it that same day and going back to my old TV. I'll wait until the broadcast catches up to 4K before buying something else.
