Customers are saying

Customers recognize the 55" Class 4K Ultra HD TV's exceptional picture quality, vibrant colors, and ease of use. Many appreciate the 3D capabilities and the effective upscaling of lower-resolution content. However, some users find the remote control somewhat difficult to use, and a few have noted concerns about input lag for gaming. While some consider the price point high, the overall positive feedback highlights the TV's strong performance in key areas.

This is the best TV you can buy without going into the ultra high end stuff. The 4K content looks just as good at home as in the showroom when streaming directly. Had to upgrade other components (i.e. receiver and source box) to get full effect on non-streaming content. Had to switch from U-verse to DirectTV as the conversion to 4K jumps too many technical levels. My old receiver was failing, so not a big issue to replace. Without upgrading other components (i.e. source input, receiver, blue-ray) etc, then these components act as a bottle neck and prevent receiving the true 4K experience. For streaming, my download is fine, but would maybe consider having to up the download speed if my "gamer sons" were playing a games all the time while trying to stream true 4K content to the TV as well as have 4 phone and iPad on the network. Wouldn't be enough bandwidth for everyone. Can't believe how small and lightweight the TV is compared to my old 52" Sony Bravia. Although running sound through receiver, I did try the speakers and they are significantly better than the previous TV. Would be fine in a small room, but the sound bars are cheap. Finally, the refresh rate when watching sports was totally awesome. Thought my previous TV rocked, but this one puts it into orbit.

    Best TV I've ever purchased

I am very impressed with this purchase. I needed to replace a high end LG that I'd had for almost 3 years. I had more problems with that LG than any other TV in my life so I simply couldn't entertain the idea of getting the LG OLED, even though it's supposed to have the best picture available. But I have no regrets. The picture on this Sony is great, and the smart functions are great as well. I recommend giving this one close consideration.

First I had to buy at sale price $1299 could not pass up sale. Great picture quality. I especially enjoy it synchronized perfect with Sony PS4 PRO, Sony Soundbar HT-CT790,Samsung UBD K8500 Blu-Ray Player, NVIDIA SHIELD PRO MEDIA PLAYER and Sony TV Remote also controls all the functions on all my devices. Enjoy that it is an Android TV but I use the NVIDIA SHIELD MEDIA PLAYER for Android it is a great device for that purpose.

The picture on the Sony - 55 Class - Led - 2160p - Smart - 3D - 4K Ultra HD TV (With High Dynamic Range - Black) is so good that we sometimes pause the show we are watching just to marvel at it -- even tho we've been watching it for over a month. We have never viewed anything like it. Even old tv shows appear pretty crisp because of the processing power of this tv. Sports and nature shows rock, thanks to the great picture.

    1. The picture, colors, and blacks are excellent on this tv. 2. The footprint is fairly small comparatively which is great for my smaller tv stand depth. I have it at a diagonal and if the feet were spaced out more towards the sides, they would not fit. But even with the smaller footprint, the tv is very stable. 3. I have apple products. This tv is android native so I can't really take full advantage of all its features.

Great at SDR. HDR content suffers from blooming

First TV purchase in several years, replacing a 50" LG plasma. Very happy with the "True Cinema" motion settings -- no issues with Soap Opera Effect and handles 24p content quite nicely. I'm not as sensitive to color calibration but the "Cinema home" setting looked just fine out of the box to me. I upgraded my Netflix account to stream HDR content and that's where things got a little tricky. The TV detects HDR and automatically switches into a mode where the local dimming and x-tended dynamic range settings are fixed. I expect that this is done so that the TV can support the overall contrast range required for HDR, but to my eye this results in too much blooming and too much scene-to-scene variation in brightness. If a character moves in front a light in the background the whole scene will change quite a bit. I find it's distracting. My experience matches up with this Redditor's: https://www.reddit.com/r/bravia/comments/54z5le/is_there_a_way_to_reduce_blooming_on_xd93x930d/ I've heard a rumor that the Android TV 6.0 upgrade will allow for some further customization in this area. Personally I'd be quite OK with some reduced dynamic range in exchange for more consistent lighting. Finally, this is a VA panel which means the viewing angle is not awesome. Mostly noticeable on HDR content for me. Not a huge issue but I do find myself sitting front and center more than I had been in the past with the plasma. Overall happy with the purchase but I do think I'll be keeping a close eye on OLED sets over the next few years.

I was going to buy a cheaper unit offline, but I decided to go to the store to see the pictures myself. A Sony rep was on site that day and proceeded to demonstrate the differences in the processors of the TV's.Before he covered the 930 I kept saying " That one is so clear compared to the others" After he further explained the features I decided to go with the 930 and I'm glad I did. You get what you pay for!

I am on my second TV, the first having failed after two weeks. Fortunately the Best Buy return policy took care of me the first time. So far so good, after about three weeks the second time around. The picture is fabulous; I could not ask for more. I just hope the TV will hold up over time. Glad I bought the extended warranty.

This is a very good TV if you know how to calibrate it, Out of the box I was disappointed with picture quality and probably should've gone with Samsung 8000.I stuck with it and after 3 weeks I believe I have a good picture. I only watch cable and for me it was probably not worth it but it is nice when I watch Netflix 4k

This is my 3rd SONY TV--the other 2 are both rear-projection, but my 50" died (after 10 years of service), which provided a convenient excuse to get new gear. I've been looking at the larger screens (75" and 78") to replace my 60" SXRD and I have to admit that I was tempted to go with one of the SU-HD Samsungs, as they have a bright, clear picture. However, this one was for the bedroom, so the 55" was more than adequate. There are so many variations/models for each brand and it can get rather confusing. I found the 930 on sale and in my own side-by-side comparison, I thought the picture was every bit as good as the Samsung--unlike the 850 (SONY), the 930 is back-lit (rather than side-lit) which gives you even darker blacks and more vivid colors. There was a small difference in price and I felt like it was worth the additional $300. Even then, the 930 was still cheaper (on sale) than the comparable Samsung SU-HD set and all of my BluRay consoles (PS-3/PS-4) are SONY as well, so it just seemed like the way to go. As I've read on other posts, the setup instructions have left a little to be desired, but it still only took about 30 minutes to get the new set up and running. I did have to run updates, but that process was rather painless as well. I've only had it for about a month and have yet to use any of the Smart features, but the picture quality is FANTASTIC!!

The crispness of the picture can be just amazing at times! The dynamic lighting helps a ton with the blacks, still nothing compare to the OLED TV's but since I do a lot of gaming, and the OLEDs are known for getting pictures burnt into them, this is kind of the best option out there at the moment.
