      Hi DouglasG,

It is great to hear that your first leap into the world of OLED with the BRAVIA 8 has been such a fantastic experience!

As a longtime Sony owner, we are gladthat you’ve noticed the unbelievable improvements in picture contrast and depth that OLED technology provides. We are especially proud of your feedback regarding the audio. By using our Acoustic Surface Audio+ technology, the entire screen actually acts as a speaker, vibrating invisibly to make the sound come directly from where the action is happening on screen. Knowing that it delivers such an immersive experience that you don't feel the need for an external soundbar is a testament to that innovation.

We really appreciate you being part of the Sony family.

Top Tier OLED offering from SONY

Top tier OLED in SPADES. Sony engineered an impeccable TV with the Bravia 8. Considered their upper mid tier OLED offering behind their top tier (and most expensive) A95L, this set still holds its own. The color palette and contrasts are absolutely brilliant. The user interface is fluid and butterery smooth. Vast improvement over their previous generations. Great pairing with today's next gen consoles, specifically the PS5. The gaming display options and customization is on par with other OLED manufacturers and is a seamless pairing with a Sony PS5, naturally. My only two knocks that may be a factor for others is the screen nits (brightness) is a tad on the darker end compared to other OLEDs. That being said, after customizing the brightness and display settings while not diminishing the picture quality was easy enough to address this. However, using this TV during the day with a lot of natural sunlight might be too much to overcome for even the most astute at adjusting display settings. I use it in a bedroom with curtains so not much of an issue there. The other thing to consider is only two available (out of the four equipped) HDMI 2.1 ports. A lot of similar priced OLED sets from manufacturers give you four HDMI 2.1 ports. Not an issue if you only plan to use one next gen console and a sound system. If you want to connect multiple consoles or devices then this may not be the best choice for you. Those are the only two minor knocks against this TV that may not even be knocks or concerns for many others depending on where you use it and what you connect to it. Overall, fantastic OLED and could not be happier with this purchase!

A Very Balanced and Performant TV.

Very balanced quality TV and display. The Google TV OS is just great and probably my favorite TV software. It is not the brightest Oled, but plenty bright for my purposes and a noticeable upgrade from previous Bravia sets in a similar class. I personally chose this over the LG G4 after comparing them both for my purposes and after tweaking their respective settings for a more balanced picture for movies, shows, and gaming. I gave up the extra hz performance and peak brightness of the G4 for much better color balance, better gradient handling, overall processing quality and better OS (imo).

So on Black Friday weekend I made kind of an impulse buy after a friend said they were getting a new TV. I thought - this is something I've been wanting to do for a long time.. so I went to Best Buy and purchased a lower level 55" Samsung. After thinking about it I decided to upgrade and was talked into a Hisense ULED. After getting it setup at home I could not get it to look right no matter what settings I adjusted. Everything was too bright, cloudy angle viewing, I just wasn't happy. I then returned it and went for the Sony Bravia 8 OLED and glad that I did. The sound was better, the viewing angle is clearer, and the colors are much better without all that extra unrealistic brightness. And for my general purposes no sound bar is needed. The Sony was quite a bit more expensive but well worth it. The only thing was you will need patience to set it up. It took some time and I actually had to call Sony for help - maybe you will be faster than I with this. The Hisense was much quicker and easier. However, if you are anything like me and dislike unrealistic skin tones on people's faces, nature colors, and appreciate rich natural looking colors with clean side viewing.. get this Sony - it's well worth it!

Set Up was easy and took about 20 minutes. Great instructions. Picture is outstanding using the vivid mode. Home audio (I own an old Bose system) was a little tricky just have to change your audio settings that takes seconds. I had to double check the initial audio set up to understand how that works. Had an old Sony Bravia (about 15 years) that I replaced. This is just fantastic. Would recommend this TV to anyone.

Fantastic product- definitely an upgrade from our previous tv. We love the display, colors, and user-friendly interface. It was an adjustment to transition to Google for entertainment/app management, but so far so good. We also like that the tv has extra protection from heat because it is on a window ledge. The Bravia 8 offers a premium viewing experience with gorgeous colors and deep blacks. I compared this TV among competing OLED and Mini-LED models and while it’s not as bright as some OLEDs and especially Mini-LEDs, the color reproduction and build quality won me over. This is especially noticeable when unboxing the TV as there are no creaks and the metal band encasing the screen adds a premium touch. While I’m not a fan of the interface, it is snappy and offers solid recommendations.

This has become my favorite TV I have owned so far. I purchased this TV for my office/man cave and it has been a dream. I use it for watching movie, playing games or just as a screensaver with pictures on it that is up while I am working for the day. Once I tweaked the settings to my liking I found the picture to be crisp and clean. The color spectrum is excellent and the black levels are the best I have seen. To call out something I feel the TV excels at: when gaming it is unmatched in my experience. The gaming specific video setting gives excellent refresh rate and color making for a very smooth gaming experience. It is a little less bright compared to the more 'vivid' movie/cinema settings but if you aren't too bothered by having a little less bright of a picture I think it is perfect for gaming in every other way. The included speaks on the TV are 'not bad' but I am a big believer in running your tv through some kind of sound bar or system anyway.

Have the A95L Sony 77 inch and absolutely love that TV. Purchased this Bravia 8 for the in laws and after set up, and a 2 hour picture and speaker tweak, this TV picture and sound are right on par. Just an awesome offering from Sony. I have owned so many high end TV's from every major brand and I keep going back to Sony. My request to any prospective buyer....do not judge this or any Sony TV on the picture out of the box. It is very good for sure, but EVERY environment is different, and the TV will need to be calibrated to your specific environment of light vs dark, window glare vs not, etc. There are SO many settings to explore! If you cannot find the right picture setting, hire someone to do it for you. I guarantee you, it's not the TV it is the operator. Love this Bravia 8 from Sony and my in laws are over the moon.

I hoped that the OLED screen type would not reflect the room environment, but it displays the lighter objects in the room more than I had imagined in the daytime environment. I should have purchased an LED. The OLED does not show enough graininess also. I had an LED for 20 years and am accustomed to being able to see the difference between a cotton shirt and a polyester shirt. OLED screens have too much gloss for my taste. The tv can not handle some of the old black and white movies as I look at the black areas streaking and moving around during the dark room interior or outside nighttime scenes. I will have to hang black plastic bags along my living room wall to eliminate my daytime reflection problem. The lack of seeing the depth in material makes the screen look like it provides a 2D picture vs 3D picture (in teeny detail of course). I will just have to get used to "the new look" that my OLED provides. As for the setup of the tv, I had a 3-way switcher hooked up with the old tv and my TIVO device and my Blu-ray device. I had a problem when trying to tell the tv, when establishing the settings, that I plugged in the Tivo to HDMI 2. It refused to accept such. I had to remove my 3-way switch. I plugged the Blu-ray into HDMI 1. I will have to go into the Settings function and change to HDMI 1 when I want to play from that device probably. I have not tried to play a disc still because I am afraid to change the current setting. It took too long to get the settings to where the tv will work when I grab my Tivo remote and turn on the tv. I do not want to screw up the current settings. Maybe I will have enough courage to attempt such 5-10 years from now, or maybe I just need to get drunk and say "Screw it - I want to see a movie from my Blu-ray." My old LED provided a sound that was louder and seemed more realistic. I never felt like I needed a sound bar with such, but I had the desire to have better quality as soon as I started viewing such. I am not declaring that this OLED has poor quality. I am saying that it has lower quality than my LED and that I feel compelled to go to the store and spend an extra $150 - $200 for a better sound experience via a sound bar. That, of course, will create another "hook-up" challenge. I did not need a sound bar with the LED. This sound aspect disappointment is equal to the visual disappointment that I wrote about above. I changed from LED to OLED and need to adjust my way of thinking. The sound aspect can be compensated for with more money, but the "flatness" and glossiness of the new visual representation can not. I will click on the button "Yes" for the question about recommending this product, but that "Yes" applies only to those who are accustomed to LCD and OLED screens.

Thank you for your incredibly detailed and honest feedback, DaveK. We're sorry to hear that your experience with the K55XR80 hasn't fully met your expectations, especially after being accustomed to your previous TV for so long. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts, as they are crucial for our product development and for helping other customers make informed decisions.

We understand your feelings about the visual differences between your old LED and your new OLED. The characteristics you describe—the glossiness and lack of "graininess"—are indeed features of OLED technology, which aims to provide perfect blacks and stunning contrast. We recognize that this "new look" can be a significant adjustment for those used to the visual characteristics of LED panels. We also appreciate you bringing the issues with older black and white movies to our attention.

Regarding your comments about the reflections, you're right that OLED screens, with their deeper blacks, can sometimes show reflections more than some LED models. Our newest screens do incorporate advanced anti-reflection technology, but they still operate best in environments where you can control the light. We understand your frustration, and we'll be sure to pass your feedback on to our engineering team.

We also want to help with the setup issues you're experiencing. It sounds like you've had a frustrating time getting your TIVO and Blu-ray player connected, and we sincerely apologize for that. Our support team can walk you through the correct settings and help you get both devices working seamlessly without having to switch cables or risk your current setup. It's a much easier process than you might think, and we want to ensure you can enjoy your Blu-ray movies. You can connect with them directly at this link: https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=tv.

Finally, we hear your comments about the sound quality. Many TVs today, both LED and OLED, are designed to be thin, which can sometimes impact the built-in speaker performance compared to older, thicker models. We're sorry that the sound quality wasn't what you expected and that you feel the need to purchase a soundbar. Your feedback on this is incredibly valuable, as it helps us understand the importance of sound as a standalone feature.

Thank you again for your valuable insights and for your recommendation, despite your challenges. We are committed to using feedback like yours to improve our products and services.

Best regards, Gus, Sony Social Media Team Sony_US

This TV has great color. I had an older Bravia that died after 6 years. This new version does not work quite as well. Only one input will auto power on or off with AppleTV, only sometimes with XBox. The audio auto gets confused and stays on TV audio when it should be theater sound. Hopefully Sony will polish this up. We don’t use any of the smart features - and would prefer it not have any. Picture settings had to be tweaked quite a bit. All presets were awful or too dim. Overall, satisfied with the picture quality for my movie collection.

I would recommend this to a friend

      Hi Jgomer,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback and for being a returning member of the Sony BRAVIA family. We are happy to hear that you are satisfied with the picture quality and that the color is bringing your movie collection to life!

We see that you are experiencing some frustrating inconsistencies with your HDMI device control and theater audio switching. To help resolve these connectivity hiccups and ensure your Apple TV, Xbox, and sound system sync up seamlessly every time, we highly recommend adjusting the following settings:

1- Enable BRAVIA Sync Control: This protocol ensures your connected devices can turn the TV on and off automatically. Please go to Settings > Channels & Inputs > External Inputs > BRAVIA Sync Settings > BRAVIA Sync Control > ON.

2- Turn On Audio System Prioritization: This setting forces the TV to automatically default to your theater sound system instead of the TV speakers when your audio equipment is powered on. Please go to Settings > Display & Sound > Audio Output > Audio System Prioritization > On.

3- Check for Pending Updates: Sony frequently releases firmware updates to polish performance, iron out communication glitches between external devices, and optimize picture presets. You can check for any available updates by going to Settings > System > About > System software update.

We hope these adjustments help you resolve the issues so you can fully enjoy your movie nights without any extra hassle. If the problems persist after trying these steps, we highly suggest reaching out to our dedicated technical team so they can look into this further for you: https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=tv
