    Nice TV, but still disappointed

Firstly, this is a fine TV. I'm not going to say much about the technical specs, they are out there for everyone to read. I will say that this 900E produces uniformly deep black levels, excellent contrast, has adjustable color saturation (so, if you care to, you can oversaturate the colors like they do in many showrooms) ... pretty much everything Sony promises in their advertising works. Really nice sound from the internal speakers, compared to what I am used to! However, it is not much of an upgrade from my old 55-inch HD TV, out here in the real world. I had read several advice columns on 4K TV's. One bit of advice I should have paid more attention to was that it doesn't make much sense to buy 4K in screen sizes smaller than 65-inches for most people. In my experience it seems to be true. Unless I sit really close to the screen while viewing 4K content, and I normally do not, the difference between my old HD set and this 4K set can be fairly subtle. The bottom line is I should have purchased the 65-inch set, if I stick with 4K at all. Most of the programming I watch actually looks the same or better on my old HD set. I watch a lot of classic movies and pre-HD commercial programming. I haven't found the upscaling from HD to 4K in this Sony to be very impressive, and it comes well-rated. For older non-HD content I feel the upscaling is completely ineffective for even maintaining the picture quality, forget about improving it. Perhaps the X1 Extreme chip in the 930E set would do a better job of upscaling, but I have no use for a 70-pound 55-inch TV. One other little quibble about the 900E. The IR sensor for the remore control is located at the bottom center of the TV. That is right where you might want to place a center channel speaker or a sound bar, which will block the sensor. The height of the provided stand is not adjustable, so you would need to raise the TV (perhaps using an after market stand) or relocate your speaker(s) or use an IR Blaster. For those doing a wall-mount this is not an issue. Three stars just because it isn't the upgrade I expected from HD, in this 55-inch screen size anyway. BTW, dealing with Best Buy on this purchase was a great experience. I expect my return of this set will go equally well.

    Totally satisfied with our choice!

Finally after months of debate and research we chose this particular make, model and size of TV. We're partial to Sony as we have had great experiences with other Sony TVs in the past. We looked at many different brands, but this model of TV was one that met all of the criteria we were looking for in a TV. The picture quality is great whether in a dark or brightly lit room, as we have many south facing windows into the great room where this TV is located. I like contrast it has and it's motion flow. I would give the audio four stars, but that didn't matter much since we were adding a sound bar and subwoofer for a more dramatic audio experience due to the great room having 18 foot high ceilings. I personally like all of the hook ups it has to which I can connect many other optional audio and video devices. I personally like the remote with all of it's function buttons starring back at me rather than me searching around in an on screen menu for everything, but I'm "old school". I like the design of the TV, but wished the power brick were built in to the TV rather than seperate, however that was a minor trade off for getting such a great quality viewing experience. For us, this was the right choice of TV, with features and functions we were looking for and from a brand name that we have had reliable and excellent past experiences with over the years.

I couldn't be happier with this Sony 4K Ultra HD Smart TV. Exceptional picture quality at a great price. Plenty of HDMI inputs for AppleTV and a DVR too. Unfortunately, it will not pair with my Beats Solo 3 headphones like the Best Buy sales rep promised. I'm curious if any of the Sony wireless headphones would work via Bluetooth like any of these: ZX220BT Wireless On-Ear Headphones RF995RK Wireless On-Ear Headphones XB650BT Over-the-Ear Wireless Headphones Other than that little hiccup, this has been a really good experience.

Good overall TV but not for me.

Coming from plasma tv, LED seemed too bright and too saturated to our eyes. I tried many calibration settings I found online but it still looked not natural. With friquent little adjustments that were needed to fit our taste when using it, I thought it was too much trouble to go through, so I returned it and got OLED instead. Yes, OLED was $700 more than this tv but I’m talking about 8+ years of watching movies, shows and occasional video gaming, so I wouldn’t want to regret cheaping out on this purchase. Overall, it’s a very good tv and if 4K HDR is all you need, lucky you. 4 stars instead of 5 for unstable HDMI ARC, owners on forums I read complain about it too. For some reason I had to turn this tv off multiple times before it turns off completely when I have my soundbar connected via ARC.

Where do I start...Ok I bought two LG tvs prior to buying this tv I bought the 55uj6200 series and was not satisfied so I upgraded to the 55uj7700 series thinking I would be happy and overall satisfied with my purchase but I was not the local dimming was driving me nuts on that LG tv and I needed to exchange it asap and thank God I found the Sony bravia which was made from heaven and crafted by God himself I'm not kidding you the picture quality will literally take your breath away and the deep blacks will make your movie experience so much better and I mean soooo much better idk why nobody ever pointed me to this tv to begin with not only I'm I extremely happy with my purchase but the money was worth spent you get what you pay for and this tv really shows it also if you pair it with your ps4 pro you will not be sorry just be prepared for the ultimate gameing experience and man that motion flow is so awesome you never miss a shot during action scenes...now if I said this once I will say this again Sony makes the best tvs on the market.

    Great TV, a little overpriced

This TV is very good. Stock picture settings need to be adjusted to get the most out of the TV. Android TV is a little slow but it doesn't prevent me from liking this TV. 4K on YouTube looks phenomenal. Sound is ok. Having a little trouble setting up ARC with my Yamaha Soundbar. Would be easier if I had a Sony Soundbar. Remote could be better. Too many buttons in my opinion. Other reviewers said WiFi was a little slow and I would agree with that. Still fast enough to watch most content. Still recommend but $1200 for a 55" 4K is steep in 2017. If closer to $1000, I would say great value.

I bought this TV hoping getting the best of all: video and Android operating system. I have to tell that the image is spectacular but the operating system is TERRIBLE. Too slow and the responsiveness for the control commands is too slow. By the price it should be a lot better. I used to have a LG and the system is much better. The remote control is impossible to compare because LG one is like Wii remote. I do not recommend this product by this price.

I have been clinging on to my 42" Panasonic Plasma now since about 2007. It has worked totally fine, but I wanted something bigger. I have kept my eye on the market for the last several years and just have NEVER been impressed with picture technology that wasn't plasma. I saw the surge of Smart TV features, but that never impressed my as I planned on hooking up an AppleTV to whatever I bought anyway. The outlook was pretty bleak because I wanted solid black levels and great motion processing and those two just seemed not to exist outside of OLED, which was well beyond what I was willing to pay. I have an XBR4 in 32" from around 2009, and I have always loved it, so I thought I would really dig into Sony's offerings. I am very happy I did. The x900e is to me the moment when plasma has finally been eclipsed. I have perfect motion processing, and the full color scale that I am used to. I can watch TV now and not be bothered by ghosting images or light bleed through, which I haven't been able to do since 2007!!! Finding the proper color calibration wasn't difficult either. I spent about 20 minutes toying with the menu before I got it spot on perfect. I really count ask for much more. Sony to me has always been for the person that enjoys watching the content on TV, and wants maximum enjoyment from the experience. Samsung is for people that want to show off nifty features on their set, and that just wasn't for me. I don't care about voice control (which my TV might have, I don't know) or cute remote controls or ornate stands-i want a great picture, and if that is you, seriously consider the 900e...

    Coming from a TCL P-Series

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

As the title suggests I am coming from the TCL P-Series 55 inch tv. I LOVED that TV (even though the peak brightness wasn't all that great, but it was passable), but as rtings.com said this was the best "mid-range" TV at the time. Also, I should mention that I got it open box for around $750 and at that price-point I couldn't pass it up. I have this paired with the Sony UBP-x800 (which I also got at a vast discount) and have never looked back to the TCL. While this doesn't have the future-proofing of the TCL with Dolby Vision - there aren't too many movies that support it and even less UHD players that would actually play a Dolby Vision disc . Compared to the TCL P-Series the peak brightness on this set is MUCH better. It's especially apparent when you're watching a movie like The Martian. The blacks are almost as deep as an OLED, but unlike an OLED the lag on this set is AMAZING. So if you're wanting to play on the Xbox One X or PS4 Pro - I would go with a set like this as opposed to an OLED where the lag is much more prevalent. The smart features are pretty humdrum as it's Android and not the superior Roku platform, but there are smart features on every single device you plug into the TV now-a-days, so that shouldn't be a deal breaker. The remote is a typical Sony remote and looks like an enlarged version of the one that came with my UHD player. The sound is actually pretty decent for TV speakers, but you're always going to get better sound from a surround sound set-up or a soundbar (I have the Vizio 5.1 soundbar). Overall, if you're looking for an amazing movie watching and video game playing experience and you have the money to get this TV - go for it. At the list price it is a little pricey, however. So if you can't get a solid deal on it - the TCL P-Series with HDR and Dolby Vision will suit most people just fine.

The quality of this 4K HDR TV is evident from the moment you begin the unboxing process. The assembly instructions can be a bit confusing, but once set-up, the display has a substantial feel. The picture is wonderful with dark blacks and vibrant colors due to it's local dimming. Additionally the unit has plenty of HDMI inputs for all your devices and a great remote.

Bought this TV after doing extensive research on what would best fit the media I use. Android TV was 100% something I wanted as I'm an avid Android user. The features on the TV are endless. I can use my bluetooth headphones with it, which is really nice when I'm up late and want to watch a movie without disturbing the rest of the house. The apps offered are awesome, and I had no trouble linking up all of my accounts. Picture quality is spectacular for what the unit costs. I have everything set to "Vivid" mode, which makes colors pop. I would recommend this to friends for sure. If you have a super bright room that you're setting it up in, maybe jump to the 930E, but for my use in the room that this is in, it's perfect.

I love this TV, it has excellent color, brightness, sharpness, functionality etc. Lots of features such as inputs and configuration. Plays back 4K video flawlessly off a USB stick inserted into the TV. So I love this TV but removed a star for two reasons. One, the complaints about the OS/menu system are valid. It can be really annoying at times trying to locate where a setting is. Secondly, my first unit failed - BUT... that can happen with anything. I would've taken off another star if it weren't for Sony's amazing white glove warranty service. When it failed I cringed at the thought of calling in. I did so on the same day, a Sunday, and surprisingly I was able to get a live warranty rep. He was very helpful and after trying the mandatory steps he informed me on the process. I received the email as told, clicked a link and submitted pictures of the screen and within 48 hours got an email that instead of a refurb they were able to send me a brand new replacement. This all came via a white glove delivery service that delivers on the date you schedule. They come in, unbox the new TV and get it setup and in place and then take the old, put it in the same box, and take it away. No new cardboard/styrofoam to throw out! New TV working great. If the new one fails I will have it replaced and sell it and go with something else, but hopefully all goes well cause I do really love this TV. Haven't even needed to calibrate it - looks perfect out of the box.

I read tons of reviews and of course the ultimate video-phile recommendation seems to be the high end Samsung OLED unit, but I have plenty of things competing for my hard-earned $$. I chose this Sony 900E because of its alternatively high ratings and I have not regretted it. I am about 4 weeks in and love this TV. It replaced an LG plasma (which is still going strong but in my basement media room now) which had an impeccable image and range of display settings for its day. 4K programming on Amazon Prime, Netflix, and via my cable provider are fantastic on the 900E. My only regret is that I didn't have enough room for the 65" and had to settle for 55". I can't tell much difference - if any - between my set and my friend's OLED and I have about $2 grand in my pocket that he doesn't. Just walk past the Sony 850s and get the 900E, you won't be sorry.
