Excellent television

Awesome TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own a 50 inch 900E. I also own a 55 inch Sony OLED A8F. The differences in the two when actually watching them is minimal at best. Android TV operating system is not bad once Sony updates to Oreo 8 version. The older 900E is updated so it is good to operate except Sony and Google still have not fixed a bug where you have to turn the TV on twice to get my sound system to play. On the A8F with the older version, the CEC and sound system work fine with the HDMI/ARC. The older Android operating system is just not good to use. The picture is fantastic on both TVs. Sony LED TVs are the way to go unless you can get a really good price on the OLED.

Great picture, great setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased TV during Black Friday along with UBP-X800 4k Bluray and HCT-800 soundbar. mounted soundbar above the TV with Rocketfish brackets. This is a great setup with outstanding picture and sound. I use an antenna for tv viewing and the tuner pulls in approximately 70+ stations with outstanding video and sound. I haven't hooked up the internet but I have watched some videos that were downloaded to a thumb drive and the tv plays them with no issues. If you get this setup you will be extremely pleased. I did purchase the 5 year extended warranty with the tv, a little insurance. I also had Best Buy remove a 53" Pioneer rear projection tv for $15 well worth the expense.

Not what I expected.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For just over $2000, I expected this TV to be better than it is. The picture quality does not impress me with the blooming, average screen uniformity, lack of clarity on 4K content, and awkward/glitchy functioning of the operating system and Bluetooth. I will say however, that the sound on this particular TV is much better than I expected, and it is fully compatible using HDR 10, Dolby Picture and Audio, and with my Xbox One S and even the Xbox One X we hooked up to it, as well as very little input lag while playing games. Both of these tvs (55" 65") were professionally calibrated and were found to be lacking even after I tweaked the settings to my preference. Perhaps I'm spoiled with the quality of OLED, and overall the 55" is almost a value for the price, but I find these somewhat lacking. Go for a Vizio P series and save some money while gaining quality, or upgrade and go for an oled.

Replaced a 10 yr old Sony Bravia and wow!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The last thing I thought I would be doing .... but picture tube dying and I went shopping. Sony was my #1 choice from experience going back 40+ years. I'm older, single woman, and had no problem getting it out of my Jeep Cherokee and into the house. Bit of effort getting it out of the packaging, but nothing broke. Followed the directions when setting it up, only needed a Philips screwdriver, and I was watching TV in no time. Bought it to ensure I could sync iPad/iPhone w/TV. Picture is marvelous!! wider screen than initially thought. Sound great. Lighter weight than Bravia fr 10 yrs ago and flatter panel. Love the new set. Money well spent.

Sony wins
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After enjoying the bright colors on the Samsung QLED I thought I was sold on that model. Yet before 2 weeks past I had an issue with a red dotted line on screen. That was my 3rd and final attempt at a Samsung. At the same price is this stunning Sony with far more reliability. Do not listen to others who hate on the android operating system it works just fine. I run an 4k apple tv anyway so I simply dont care about android tv. The best buy clerk finally admitted to me that samsung gets far more repair calls than LG and Sony and I totally believe it. I mean come on 3 faulty TV's all within a matter of 1 month.

Sony Bravia TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The tv was really great right up until it wasn't. 6 years and 2 months after purchasing the tv just went out. No warning at all. Other than that it was nice.

Great TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased last year's model in the May time frame so I have spent quite a bit of time using this TV. The TV has very realistic colors not over saturated like another name brand TV I could mention. Android TV is a big plus for me. YouTube is very easy to use. Casting things from your phone to the TV using Google Cast works great. Sound is loud enough and sound quality is no worse than other higher end TV's. I have had no issues with this TV since purchase. I would highly recommend it.

Great picture, terrible sound, out of sync
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture quality on this TV is stunning and highly customizable (perhaps too many settings). For me, the absolute deal breaker had to do with the internal speakers. Yes I understood that they would sound pretty bad being that they are tiny and mounted underneath. However the sound is noticeably out-of-sync with the picture!! I ran the optical out of my cable box and also my BluRay and Xbox One to my home theater surround system while also having the internal TV speakers still playing, and the delay in the internal speakers was perfectly clear - sounded like I was at a Baseball game, the internal speakers were many 100's of milliseconds later than they should have been...a true echo effect was produced (the same tests with my old HDTV had no echo, and perfect sync between my theater sound and the internal speakers). I could not keep this TV since the internal speakers are worthless (and using my home theater system is overkill for casual TV watching/gaming). It's unfortunate because the picture is so vivid and clear and brilliant. But you are FORCED to purchase into an additional sound system - either a sound bar or home theater - to get any enjoyment out of this TV. I would only recommend this if you plan on never using the internal speakers.

After trial and error, ended up with the perfectTV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Took home a Samsung during the holiday sales. After about a week I realized there was no way we could keep it, horrible viewing angles, not bright enough. So instead did my homework, watched TV's in the store at all angles, decided I am sensitive to motion blur so needed a refresh rate that will keep up. Landed on this baby and never looked back. Fabulous television, and the holiday pricing was perfect. Recommended.

Best TV for the money!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We originally bought the Samsung QLED 55” newest model for $1499.00 but when we got it home we hated it. The picture up close was beautiful but if anybody moved it would be blurry. We returned it and got the Sony XBR900e for $500.00 cheaper and the picture is amazing. No blurring when objects move and the details and color is just amazing. Just proves more expensive is not always better!

Issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great picture, refresh rate, and chip/processor response. Half the screen went black and stopped showing a picture for no reason though. Also, the tv does not recognize my wi-fi anymore even though every other device in my house does. The funny thing is that it still plays YouTube even though the menu states that there is no wi-fi available

Wow!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have only had this tv 2 days and so far I am very, very impressed with it! It has perfect color, perfect black, no light bleed. My only complaint is the price. I hope we will get more 4k content soon. I uploaded pics with my Sony camera but since it is not a dslr it won't show the true detail of the tv.

A tale of two Sonys
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Viewed as a TV, this is actually quite good. The picture quality is the best you can you can expect from a 4K LCD TV -- in other words, awfully good. If you plug this TV into a video source such as a TiVO or settop box and use the Sony solely as a display, you will probably be happy. If you attempt to use it as a smart TV, then be prepared for frustration. Clumsy menus ... buggy apps ... an el-cheapo IR remote ... there's really nothing to recommend this as a smart TV. And do not think Alexa voice integration will solve the usability problems. The Alexa skill set is really quite minimal, limited to power on/off, and volume or channel up/down. Nor will the Android app bring joy. The Sony app appears to have been de-featured (it used to provide two-screen browsing on your phone and tablet, not so any more) and does not work particularly well with this TV. Do not assume this review was written by a technophobic Luddite! I am a retired software developer, and I know my way around the innards of a Linux or Android system pretty well. Android TV should be much more mature and polished than this version. It is hard to know who to blame, the Google engineers or the Sony engineers. (Speculating) Perhaps that's the point; Google and Sony did not have a particularly effective collaboration. In any case, I rate this four stars as a TV, one star as a smart device

Love Sony Bravia

Super Sharp Picture - Almost Lifelike a Good Value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this 4K HDTV to replace a 1080p HDTV in the bedroom and the difference is dramatic to say the least. I have a similar 2016 model of this set (XBR55X850C) in my kitchen and this newer (2017 model) is even better and less expensive. A very good value and a picture that makes viewing most programming a new experience.
