I purchased this brought it home set it up and couldn't believe how bad it was. I don't know where these reviews are coming from. The black levels on this are absolutely horrible. I couldn't adjust them any better and brought it back. Look at other site reviews and you'll see the black levels on this are terrible. it looked like somebody was shining a flashlight behind the screen. I replaced it with the Hisense H9G and it blows the Sony away. The build quality is better, the picture is amazing, the black levels are solid and the colors are vibrant. Don't buy this Sony. Returning and exchanging was a breeze and Best Buy was fantastic.

This is a great TV. I gave 4 stars because the only one complaint I have are the legs. Sony should make this TV on a stand that is centered in the middle of the TV.

    Amazing so far

I’ve only had the tv for about a day so far but it looks amazing. Setting up everything was easy. I downloaded the apps that I use like Netflix, Disney+, HBO, NordVPN, and Amazon Prime Video. Smart lock is a nice feature as well. The tv had a software update right out of the box which was easy and fast to download. I also have a antenna for local channels and the tv just scanned it and automatically set it up for me. I’m really into technology and I’m 25 so setting everything up was very easy for me to do. However my dad said he would have struggled if he was doing this himself so I wouldn’t buy this for someone older who isn’t tech savvy unless you’ll be there to help them set everything up. For now I’m really satisfied with the tv. Picture quality is AMAZING. I’ve attached photos of the Disney documentary penguins. The pictures really do not so the tv justice. The sound is good. It’s not as loud as I’d like it to be without having the volume really high. So if sound is important for you then you might wanna have a sound bar or some time of system set up. If I remember I will come back to this review every so often to update it. Especially if anything goes wrong.

I have had this TV a little less than 2 weeks. I am not a gamer or a tech person. So I can't be really detailed about the review. I mainly buy a TV for the picture quality. My older TV was Sony XBRr55 850D purchased in 2017. I liked that TV. I thought it had a nice picture. It suddenly stopped working in May 2020. Luckily it was under warranty. I know some people say not to bother buying a warranty because warranties usually run out before the item stops working. Well, in my case, I was so happy it was still under warranty. I would not have been able to purchase another tv that nice and that size. I called Best Buy and they sent a person out to check the old TV. It couldn't be repaired. They replaced it with this Sony xbr 800H 55". I was hoping it would be a nice tv. Wow! It is so much brighter than the 850D. The picture quality is amazing. In the spec's it says it has a 4K HDR processor x1 for 4K images, detail and texture. The details are so much clearer on this tv. The color is beautiful. I have it on Custom and seems pretty accurate. Looks like most settings are really good except for Vivid, which seems way too bright and saturated in my opinion. It's suppose to have Dolby digital and Dolby Atmos, but I have not got anything hooked up to try that yet. Backlight, it doesn't have local dimming but is direct lit. I thought the movement was a little jerky and I tried to make it better, but couldn't get the right setting. I saw someone online say to try Motionflow on Custom, smoothness 0, and Clearness 1, and I like that so far. The remote does not have a back light. I haven't had any problem with apps freezing. Haven't had any problems with you tube freezing which happened occasionally on old TV. I didn't want Alexa or to use mic on remote. I'm old fashioned. Don't want all that stuff. It has 4 HDMI and 2 USB on the side of the TV. HDMI 3 is ARC. The sound on the TV is good enough for me. I don't like the legs on the new TV's. I guess the TV manufacturers assume most people want it wall mounted. I can't put it on a wall. I think they should have the width and depth of the feet/legs first thing in their spec's instead of having to dig for the info. The width of the feet on this 55" TV are approximately 38 1/2" and the depth is approximately 13 1/2". Just fit on my 44" wide and 15" depth stand with not much to spare. That's about as technical as I can get. It's everything I want in a TV. I recommend a Geek Squad warranty. They were very helpful.

Finally had to replace an old Plazma screen TV. Did a lot of research. So far I like everything about this TV. Easy to set up. I did also buy a Yamaha sound bar which has helped with us older folks who need a bit more. My only complaint is I cannot hook up the Bluetooth headset with this tv , and I have tried several. Our bedroom tv, which is a 4 year old Samsung will do this perfectly. Pictures great with this tv. Remote works well and I like the Home function. First movies in 4k were the Lord of The Rings Trilogy. (Not all at once) AWSOME!

I was concerned about the 60 hz refresh rate as I will only buy 120 native hz. I took a chance on this one. After personal prefereces made in picture, this is not an issue at all. I have 3 other sonys running native 120, so if this is your only concern, as was mine, don't worry. It looks great on all types of programming, sports included. Buy it. You won't regret it. Don't buy a TV cause it's cheaper with the same so called specs. This is a winner. Sony TVs are rhe best.

This is a really impressive TV. Great color, easy to use, responsive remote and solidly build. Definitely Sony quality and worth a bit if extra money. We originally bought the 49" inch Sony Bravia and were disappointed. The black color was washed out to a very dark grey and when viewed from the side there was a definite loss of color and sharpness. It seemed like a fine mist of white was laid over the screen. We traded it for this 55" inch model and couldn't be happier. In our small condo, one of the chairs has to sit on the side and there is a very small 5% loss of sharpness with this TV as compared to the 20% loss with the 49". The 49" is edge lit but this 55" is backlit. The backlit feature makes all the difference overall. The stand mounting instructions for this TV are really confusing if you've never had a flat screen TV. Pictures only with no text. Just a few sentences would have make it so much easier. Reading them was like deciphering hieroglyphics. Pay attention to the 55. 65, 75 numbers that are circled. They refer to the size of the TV and different stand mounting instructions that are somewhat the same but different! I think we will eventually have it mounted to the wall. We are really enjoying this TV!

Cons: Issue #1.) Google's ads...er, "staff picks" are annoying!!! The launch firmware was fantastic...responsive and easy to use, but the latest firmware update added ads. I don't mind ads in certain apps (businesses have to make money) but NOT on the homescreen of a thousand-dollar tv. ATLEAST give the customer the option of turning the ad bar off, just like we can for all of the other app bars. Sony needs to fix this on ALL their Android tv models! Issue# 2.) The Bluetooth on this tv (and several other models) is useless. It's essentially just for the voice control on the remote. It will not see or connect to either my new Sony soundbar OR Sony portable speaker. It will pair with my (Samsung) phone, but won't do anything...not even allow music. Pros: Picture is very bright, HDR is amazing, there are many customization options, user interface is simple and stable. Overall, very impressed with the quality. Sony is still my favorite electronics manufacturer.

Hi JinMcD, thank you for reaching out with your concern. While we are glad you are satisfied with the outstanding remarkable picture & quality, features, and user-friendly interface, we are sorry you are encountering some issues with your X800H. This is definitely not the experience we wanted you to have on our premium TV.

There are certain applications like YouTube and others that will run ads depending on your viewing habits. This is not a feature you can turn off when it comes to those applications. During the initial setup process of the TV, you can opt out of certain features and that is up to the user to decide what is best for their experience.

For Bluetooth, the X800H does not natively support Bluetooth audio out. This feature may work with a compatible external USB Bluetooth Adapter or 3rd party Bluetooth applications that can be downloaded from the Google Play™ Store.

Wow, this TV is spectacular! My old Sony Bravia died after over 13 years of enjoyment. You can’t beat the picture quality of this TV and the dynamics of almost appearing 3-D. I went from a 40” up to a 55” so this TV really fills my room and I love it! The sound is better than ok, but I would think of getting a soundbar to attach. I have an iTower I can attach of which I can try first. Smart TV with voice activated remote. Many streaming services come loaded on this TV with buttons on the remote to take you directly to your app of choice. I’m using cable as my service, but this TV would be great for streaming alone! I ordered this TV around 5:30 one day and it was delivered the next morning for free. They brought it right into the living room for me. This was a selling feature since I would not have been able to get it from my car to the house by myself! I really appreciated this service! I surely hope this TV lasts as long or longer than my other Sony! Quality is #1!

Coming from an HDTV to a 4K tv made it easy to see what I was missing out on. The colors look excellent and the progression is easily noticeable. Worth the price of admission! However on this I did notice is that my previous TV had superior speakers built in, which was a bit disappointing. So when you pick one up consider getting a sound bar along with it. Finally, from time to time the apps will freeze for seemingly no reason and getting an answer from the internet on how to reset your tv tends to just show you how to factory reset which is obnoxious. (If you’re encountering this problem, just press and hold the power button for 5 seconds on your remote and it will do a soft reboot. Do this once every 2-3 days to prevent this from happening regularly) With its reduced price of 700 (got it on sale) this is a great TV if you’re looking to upgrade. There are a few kinks that need working out but nothing that prevents it from delivering an excellent image.

We knew we wanted a Sony because of the great experience we had with the first one. We were not disappointed! The picture quality is perfect and set up was easy. Its a very good TV for day time viewing, especially sports, news, sitcom etc BUT I would not recommend it so much for movies to watch at night as it lacks deep blacks, if you mostly watch movies I recommend the 900H or 950H which I have in my bedroom and It is a very beautiful picture with deep black fantastic contrast and colors I bought this 800H for day time and it looks and works extremely well for that purpose also it has wide seating viewing, picture wont degrade sitting on the side as it is an IPS panel! :) 900 , and 950 has VA panel and so image will degrade on the side unfortunately, unless you sit right in the middle it is a golden picture, so if you are paying attention to picture quality alot as I do I would see the pros and cons of choosing either a VA or IPS panel! There is one thing that Sony always has better than any television out there is the colors, lifelike image and so on for that I would only go with Sony!

Great tv! I have a LG OLED C9 upstairs where we watch 90% of our shows and had a 10 year old Panasonic downstairs that the OLED put to shame. It was annoying how different the clarity of the picture was between the two sets. Fast forward to me buying this Sony and I couldn’t be happier. I just wanted something similar that I wouldn’t see a drastic difference and I’m in love. My wife and daughter don’t see a difference in the Sony and LG OLED, but as a technology geek I see a little difference in motion barely, but the blacks are really good despite RTINGS.COM reviews. The color on this tv is amazing and what impresses me the most is there is virtually no color fading as you watch from an angle which is the thing I love most about my LG OLED upstairs. Buy this tv with confidence. Love it!
