It's a good quality 4K TV at a great price point. We had intended to purchase a 50" model but the small premium to jump up to the 55" inch seemed worthwhile. Set up was very easy and didn't take a lot of time. It's definitely not a top tier TV but at the price point ($650 for a 55" UHD TV) it's a solid value with a nice colorful display and wide viewing angles. Setting were pretty good out of the box and didn't require a lot of tinkering with the settings. We were impressed with the sound quality of this TV. My sister-in-law's old TV was connected to a cheap off brand sound bar but the audio on this TV is just as good. She didn't bother to connect the sound bar. Overall, it's a solid TV and represents good value.

Sony 4K 55 X80J Nice and Reliable

The only thing that is not so great, is tweaking the OTA picture quality and color, no matter what I do, to get the same rich color and picture quality that I get from my TV apps. I have an old Sony 4K TV, about 5 years older than this one, and I can get a decent OTA picture quality with nice color and quality. On this TV, the colors are very dreary and faded in quality. However, overall, at least when using all the TV apps which I use mostly for streaming, it is a very good TV because, after all, it is a Sony TV - one that I trust and can rely on for reliability in the long-term.

If you are getting poor reception or poor picture quality with digital broadcasts, try the following:
• Change the position, direction and angle of the terrestrial television antenna to maximize the antenna signal level. Make sure that the direction of the antenna is not changed unintentionally (such as by wind).
• If you are using a TV signal booster, adjust its signal gain.
• If equipment (such as a TV signal distributor) is connected between the antenna and the TV, it may affect the TV reception. Directly connect the antenna and the TV to check if the reception is improved.

The panel was subpar for the money. I returned it to best buy and they pointed me to this Sony X80J, I spent about 200 more to get it and WOW! This is not the best TV in the world, The side view is not great, the back lighting is not the greatest at being uniform but the picture quality is out of this world. What a quality product. If you need a fantastic gaming TV, then look no further. This is perfect for close, frontal viewing during gaming. Colors are spectacular, input lag is no existent, blacks and HDR are decent. The panel quality is the star of the show bezel to bezel perfection. The Best Buy TV guy was not lying as it was worth the extra money. Thank you Best Buy, you never fail.

Setup was easy, but from my research, here are hints for you: Turn off all of the video processing, the motion flow, the color corrections. Why? Because the TV has great color anyway. It's kinda tedious, but you have to do it for all apps attached. And while it isn't really advertised, it's a great TV for actual broadcast television. It builds a guide for you with over the air info, and really does a great job showing what all movies or TV shows are being broadcast. Switching between apps and live TV is a breeze compared to the 2009 Sharp Aquos I was using. The speaker is okay once you use the sound equalizer built in, but my soundbar is better.

Sold my new Samsung & bought this Sony!

It was a game changer. I like the television so much that I sold my 2-month-old 50 inch Samsung that was in my living room and bought the same 55" Sony again. The picture is superior and the side viewing is so much better. While it is considered entry level, it can be tweaked and the picture is just excellent. I can be a little tight, money-wise, so for me to sell a new (past return date) Samsung to get this Sony, speaks volumes.My nephew has the X80J in a 75" and his entire family enjoys it. You won't be sorry if you purchase this television.

Great TV and handles H265 streams in Kodi

I can see this fitting the bill nicely. The HDR is nice and crisp and the 4k up-scale chip makes even old 1080p video look sharp. I thought that was going to be the end of my complements for this TV, but AndroidTV has really come a long way and Sony did not skimp too much on the hardware. I was able to install Kodi from the app store and stream 4k H265 video files from my file server with zero issues and that's something my raspberrypi couldn't handle. After a system update, I was also able to get my Bluetooth controller connected as well as RetroArch installed to play around with some classic NES and SNES games. It's disappointing that they only include about 4.5gb of free space for apps, but I don't think they intended the TV for this particular use case. It's just nice that it works out that way.

Wanted the next model up but I don't watch TV much so I couldn't justify the extra cost. Not usually a fan of Samsung and LG when I look at the screen comparison and it's definitely better in my opinion. Regardless, this TV did not disappoint and is still a huge upgrade from what I had as well as an amazing TV in general. Love the Android interface, ease of use, color contrast, and the 4K is extremely smooth. This is an amazing TV for the price, features, and quality. I would honestly buy more for the house if I needed them.

DVDs are crazy beautiful. I could have bought this anywhere and Best Buy has not had the best sales people in the Crystal Lake Illinois store. BUT, I have made purchases of this television and a Samsung Front Load Washer (that I now am in Love with), the main reason I bought these from C.L. Best Buy, was the Saleman!!! Suprised. Totally old timey professionally feel, he knew his #hit. I am a mechanic and I felt like I found something that has been fading from the U.S.A. for a long time, someone that cares a little bit about what He does!!!

The only down side it needs more storage space. That's okay, I bought a 256GB thumb drive that solved the issue.
