    great tv with issues

I picked up a 65". I love that it runs on android (currently 5.1.1). The picture quality is great and very detailed. If you get a chance watch the 4k videos on the flash drive it comes with or use you tube and watch some 4k demos. Its pretty amazing. My only complaint about the picture quality is that the blacks were not as good but thats kind of expected with this model so not a big deal. Now the bad... The first thing I noticed when I turned it on was the light bleed in a few spots at the bottom. It was mostly bad in the corners and this one spot that was so bright it showed through at all times. Very noticeable. I kept it for a few days but the light bleed was so bad I had to exchanged it for another. The second set I received had it as well! This time it was in more spots than the first set but not as bright so I only notice it when watching dark scenes or when watching tv at night (which is what I mostly do). My friends came over and it was the first thing they called out. It actually embarrassing to spend this much on a TV and have these issues. I dont know what to do at this point. If I return it ill prob just get another set with light bleed.

    So Disappointing

It is such a shame that I have to rate this TV at 3 stars considering the technology it carries and the picture quality it is capable of. To get straight to the point: Sony has not (I was told otherwise by Best Buy Sales) fixed the horrendous light bleeding on the bottom of the TV, especially on the lower left side. Sony just simply failed at the quality control of this otherwise wonderful product. I expect this from a no name set, but not Sony. Other thoughts: This set has the best picture I've seen next to the OLED TVs out there. Fantastic image quality, beautiful color rendition and motion flow. The Google OS I am torn on. I cant seem to get this TV to hold the Antenna type as "Cable". it keeps defaulting to Antenna and every time I turn it on I have to change it. I know why its doing this. But Sony tech support played dumb (or was dumb) since it would require a firmware update. The TV didn't see a cable box feeding into the COAX/Antenna input so it defaults to Antenna. So it ignores the setting I choose and does what it wants. Poor design! I am very close to starting a corporate complaint regarding this TVs light bleed though.

Great Color Light bleed not fixed

I've been on a quest to find the ideal 65" UHD TV since Black Friday. I had said that I would not replace my 6 year old 55" Samsung unless it would be OLED. I still think there's too much a a price premium on these sets yet and despite the complaints about the lack of 4K content, I have been able to find enough content to stream that this feels like the right time for me to make this leap. My initial round of research lead me to the Samsung 8500 series and the Black Friday deal made it a no brainier. My heart sunk once I first turned it on and immediately spotted a splotched section in the lower right corner that looked more like a defect than light bleed. I was told that a replacement could not be ordered and I could get get a refund or order a replacement set. And a closer examination of the I store unit showed a much more exaggerated version of the right side distortion so I decided to look at other brands. This lead to theSony 900c. It looked incredible in the store. The colors did and still blow me away. (The reason for three stars) I was told that the light bleed issues I had read about had been fixed so decided to give it a try. Now after evaluating it for two weeks I've decided that I can't live with the level of light bleed that is still present. It's barely noticeable on 80% of programming that fills the screen and is bright and colorful. Under those conditions the picture is stunning and it does a great (better than the Samsung) job of up scaling 1080p. But on any scene that is darker or worse black the bleed on the side corners becomes very noticeable and disturbing. Also there's a pattern of leaked zones across the bottom of the screen. The difference between the Samsung and the Sony in this respect is glaring. The top and the bottom beading on letterbox movie content is almost unwatchable. To be perfectly honest my 6 year old Samsung does a better job. This is really disappointing given the beyond sexy form factor of this TV. It is without a doubt the best embodiment of a flat screen ever. This is also apparently its Achilles heel. The replacement will be an LG 8600 as I refuse to play the Sony roulette hoping to get a unit that works. Another design element that scares me is that the thin form factor makes the whole TV seem very delicate and potentially fragile. I would be afraid to relocate the TV after installing it and doubt it would survive a home move. Great if not brilliant industrial design but the tech is not fully baked.

This TV was one provided as a "nearest equivalent functionally" to the Sony Bravia XBR850B that I owned but suffered a non-repairable event. Compared to the XBR850B, which I absolutely loved prior to a powerboard failure, this television fails to meet my expectations. During fast moving scenes, there is significant pixilation. During darker scenes, the image flashes darker and lighter, and even after making various adjustments to picture quality, every edge of the screen has varying degrees of white fade. While I would not hesitate to have recommended the tv this unit replaced, I would not recommend this model.

Tv was great, then all of a sudden last week it started acting up and now won’t even turn on for more than a few seconds This happened to be right after a software update. Sony was not helpful as it’s out of warranty. Tv repair guy tells me it’s the main board. The part alone is over $300 & is not even in stock anywhere. Safe to say I would not buy this tv or any Sony tv ever again.

This TV has been in use for several months and is nearly perfect in every way. The picture quality is outstanding with 4K content and as good or better than most TVs of this size with HD (1080) content. If picture quality is the only measure, this is a 5 star TV for sure. However, PQ is not the only thing that matters. The first problem is with the HDMI input. My particular TV is very temperamental about which devices work and which do not on HDMI1. Most do not. They all tested fine on a larger LG 4K but the Sony has trouble. Not a good sign for a $4,000 TV. Fortunately, it is still under warranty and I only need one input. The second problem is a lot more annoying and that is the loud click or pop after the TV is powered off. This usually happens within 20 seconds but once in a while it is repeated several minutes later. It can very startling after dozing off for the night to hear what sounds like something breaking or falling over. Maybe I got a defective TV but again, this is not acceptable at this price point.

I've owned this tv for three years. Twice it had to have the motherboard replaced. The TV would start turning itself on and off randomly. To Sony's credit the second time it was out of warranty. It just started doing this again. I've written to them and received no response. I had my last Sony TV for ten years without one problem. Will never buy a Sony product again.
