Pass this one up...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this set without reading any reviews on it. Recommended by the sales guy for features per dollar @ the sale price of 1599. It has good color, great up scaling, and is probably the most attractive because of it's super thin design. It's so thin it is flimsy. I would not mount it on a full motion mount due to screen flex. It would flex away from the tilt mount I had it on. The main problem is contrast. It is truly terrible. It may very well be able to display over a billion colors, but sadly, black is not one of them. It looks great in a bright room with bright content, but dim the lights and be prepared to be disappointed. It's an edge lit IPS panel, I know, but surely the wizards at Sony can do better than this. The light bleeding around the edges is part of the problem. You can dim the tv down with some improvement, but then you are loosing picture quality, and, of course, contrast. I was constantly adjusting the picture settings based on ambient light. I researched the calibration settings, but nothing can be done to improve the contrast or light bleeding. I kept the tv for 10 days and made every effort to love it, but this model is a dud. The D series is supposed to be an improvement over the C, but there are still some reports of light bleeding. In the end I returned it and went with the Vizio M70 D3. The 4k upscaling doesn't look quite as good as the Sony, but the step up in screen size may be the difference in this scenario . Also, I don't find it quite as bright as the x900c, though it is certainly bright enough. The increased brightness of the Sony is really useless anyway since that just increases the light bleeding. The Vizio has great contrast due to full array local dimming and I find it to be a more well rounded set. So, if you want a super thin flat mounted wall hanger that will only be displaying bright content in an environment with enough ambient light to cancel out the light bleeding, this model might serve you well. If you like watching movies in the dark, you won't like it for long.

Believe what you read
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yes, I read the reviews and believed them. I needed a new TV and it happened to be the week before Super Bowl so every Best Buy within 200-miles had a depleted section of TV's. Much to my chagrin, my number one choice (Samsung 8500) was sold out. My second choice was the Samsung 7500 curved. But there was a deal on Sony soundbars for $300 off. That swung me to Sony. It was between this set and the 850. I was concerned because the 850 had an obvious disadvantage of side-viewing in the store-- so that one was eliminated. That left me with this set. I thought I was going to walk away with a much better soundbar and spend less money by going Sony. I was told Sony had addressed the light bleed issue in updates. However, even the sale associate expressed reservations about this set. I figured I would take a chance. I bought it-- installed it and the light bleed was evident immediately in three of the four corners. I went back to the store two days later and asked how to return it (do I try to put it back in the box??). It was then that they told me they were sold out and only one store had one. They called and reserved it for me. I drove two counties over and swapped it out. Got home and unpacked again and installed. Light bleed was evident (admittedly not as bad as the first set). But at the price I was paying, I wanted quality and decided to return it-- two days later after the Super Bowl, Now I'm waiting on Best Buy to restock TV's and for another Samsung promotioin (I also returned the soundbar which I never opened). I did install a couple of apps to see how it worked (Pandora and YouTube). I found the mouse pad remote a little difficult to use on the first set and had to swipe my finger over and over again to make it work. The mouse on the second set worked better (but not perfect). I also didn't like the feel of the mouse remote. It feels like a cheap piece of plastic because there is really nothing to it. It's small and thin. The TV set looks cool! However, I can't give it more than one star when the quality is not there.

I'm not seeing this "bleeding" & light on bottom of screen so hoping I'm lucky & mine is ok...it is obvious? The picture is very clear & colors are true & beautiful...so far!

Light bleed even on replacement tv
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought the sonny 4K brs the Samsung 4K because the Sony on display in the store looked so much better than the Samsung. When we brought the tv home and plugged it in there was a little bit of light bleed along the bottom, but with in a few days it was significant. Best Buy replaced the tv with another today and out of the box this one is worse than the first. Don't waste your time with this overpriced garbage and buy something decent.

Beautiful TV, SUPER price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been looking at the Sony XBR65X900C for several months. Even at $2499, I felt this 65" 4K LED was a bargain. I kept reading the reviews and most were not favorable. I looked at all the brands top models, and I still liked this model the best. After several price reductions, and with the price at $1999, I felt it was worth the gamble. I replaced a Sony 60" LED. My new Sony DOES have slight, but annoying light bleed in the bottom corners, but overall, this Sony TV is beautiful off and especially on, with the upscaling. It's a keeper. Not perfect enough to rate a 5, but based on price and performance, a solid 4.

Light bleeding and Sony's arrogance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The color is great, form factor excellent, but this TV has major problem with light bleeding. The first unit was returned to Bestbuy within the 15 day return window. The second one looked better but developed light bleeds in corners and blotches in the middle after the 15 day Bestbuy return window. Although there are plenty of documented cases about this problem on Internet Bestbuy does not want to take it back and points to Sony warranty support. Sony's support is appalling. They insist on turning down back lighting until the problem is no longer visible and refuse to accept the case. Be careful with this TV and aware of Sony's arrogance. They do not seem to care that customers are paying premium for this TV and deserve a working product. I used to buy exclusively Sony TVs, had their PCs, radios and other products and was always happy. No more. They will not see my money from now on.

DO NOT BUY - The light-bleed problem is real!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a Maven. I always research products before I buy them. Except this time. I went to my local BestBuy to purchase a 65" Samsung but was turned off by their proprietary cable. I ended up with this Sony. I began reading about the system after I bought it. That's when I first found out about the light-bleed that some buyers were having. I also read that retailers had stopped selling this model for a while because the problem was so pervasive. I don't know if that was a rumor or not but the review went on to say that since the model was being sold again then Sony must have fixed the problem. Well they didn't fix it on the system I got. Before mounting it to the wall I tried mine out for a day or two and didn't really see to much so I went ahead with mounting. (This system has a custom mount due to its thinness so I wanted to wait before bolting on a bracket that can't be used by any other television). Unfortunately, the first movie we watched that had letter-boxing revealed the problem. The light-bleed is very pronounced especially on the lower right side. I wish I would have stuck to my guns and read the reviews first. I wish I would have never bought this model. If you are considering this model then my recommendation would be don't. At this price point the light-bleed is simply unacceptable. Now, if I go to BestBuy and wonder through the Television section if there are any customers looking at this model I tell them about the issue that I and some others have had with the light-bleed

Glorious and depressing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read dozens of reviews on tvs to pick the right one for my new homes theater room. With the Magnolia only Sonus Faber speakers and Marantz 6010 receiver it only made sense to get a fantastic tv. I knew this one would be hit or miss based on the reviews. First one delivered and installed had the worst light bleed I had ever seen. About 2-2.5 inches of pure white vomit across the bottom. Returned immediately for another one got me a more recent build date. Still terrible on the light bleed but not as bad as the first one. But judging by my setup it just wouldn't be sufficient for my theater needs. Unfortunately it is back to waiting and reading about new models. I will either wait for the new 65 x900d or pony up for the glorious LG oled line up due out this year. :( 3 of 5 stars because the color saturation and picture were out of this world fantastic. The slimline bezel and mount in its negative space were worth 6 stars. Just couldn't handle the light bleed

Poor execution
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased a 65x900c. The picture was much better than the 65X850c. However, the set does have an IPS panel which does result in lower contrast, but looks very good under normal conditions and with 4K material. The passive 3D was very good as well with almost no cross-talk and brighter than an active 3D set. However, the set suffered from major light leaks in both lower corners, a number of smaller leaks along the bottom and some up the right edge. The result was noticeable brighter edges that often bled into material on the screen, especially If it was a letter box movie with black bars above and below the movie. The concept is very good for Such a thin screen, but the execution is poor because the part of the side and all of the lower edges of the screen protrude from the electronics, etc. It makes them fragile and subject to movement which can increase or decrease the light bleed. The price of the set was not worth this issue plus the buggy Android operating system which needed re-boots every day. The set was returned in hopes that the problem may be fixed in the future. As a side note, blogs have also reported that 900c's are potentially being recalled for the light bleed problem, but not defined as to whether it is the 55" or the 65".

Great TV as far clarity and color,
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just bought the Sony 65 inch 900C and it is great TV with one major flaw, light bleed ! Yes, light bleed around the left and right edges at the bottom of the screen which washes out the edge, especially on dark scenes . I have been looking forward to this TV since July and previously read about the problem of light bleed, but I had hoped it was not true , Sorry the light bleed is real ! I will be returning this product ! Sorry Sony but this product is a disappointment .

Definite Light Bleed Issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went in to buy a Samsung Curve and the salesman, along with a Sony Rep that was in the store that day, sold me on the Sony product. For a "Premium TV", I expected a Premium product. The Light Bleed in the corners is very distracting and aggravating to watch. I hope they have a fix for this issue. Great picture, but totally taken aback with the light bleed! No need for me to add photos of the issue, as it's the same as the other photos posted. Very Disappointed in the Sony!

Light Bleed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.65x900C delivered 4 days ago-- says JUN2015 on back and serial # is above that indicated in these reviews. Beautiful looking tv but the light bleed problem is terrible. Both lower corners are horrific-- with the right side bleeding going midway up the side. There is a smaller light-bleed problem in upper left. I have a call into BB to dicuss options. I 'm afraid it's going back. Beware.

Don't buy but Best Buy was helpful
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this tv (65" X900C) shortly after New Years. The extremely thin design had me a bit worried about durability but decided to get it anyways after seeing its price and picture in the showroom. After getting it on the stand and set up at the house, I had to admit, picture quality was AWESOME with a ton of cool features. Unfortunately, that night we started noticing light bleed from the entire bottom of the screen. Tried some different settings and it was still there. After reading several different reviews from various places, I saw that this "IS" a very consistent problem with this particular model number. As a long time Sony consumer, they need to take this off the market till they can resolve this. Several reviews had stated they they had swapped out their tv 3-4x and were still having these issues. Went back to Best Buy and they were more than helpful in swapping me out with another model!(65" X850C) . Salesman was more than understanding and apparently this model (X900C) has been flying back onto their shelves due to the lightbleed issue. All our tvs are Sony but I have to admit had I had problem on the exchange, we probably would have been switching to another brand. The people at Best Buy were great and I will keep going back to them first for my electronic needs.

TV Never Even Left The Store
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first review seemed to have vanished, so I'm posting again. I went in last week after weeks of research, and the deal they had going for the Super Bowl, to purchase the Samsung UN65JS8500. It took a while for a associate to ask if I needed help (I guess I didn't look like a serious buyer??) and because of that I was able to walk around and make sure I checked out all of the TV's. I saw the 900c and couldn't believe how thin the TV was and the picture was phenomenal. When I looked down at the price I saw that it was only $2,300, which is only a few hundred more than what the Samsung was. I never even looked at the TV weeks prior because of how thin it was I figured it'd be way more than what I'd want to spend on a TV. When the associate approached me I started asking him questions about it and he promised me that it was an amazing TV and it's originally a $4,000 unit, etc, and that it's a steal at $2,300. I asked him how it's better than the JS8500 and he said, "It just is..." I loved the thinness and after much deliberation I bought the Sony. The weather was bad and because of that I couldn't being the TV home that night. So I agreed to pick it up 2 days later! So that gave me time to go home and research it. I did tons of research on the Samsung but none on the Sony. I found out that this TV was rated very low and that it had significant issues with light bleed and flash lighting. So I called the next day to talk with the Geek Squad and they assured me it's been fixed since November of 2015 and the unit I'd get is flawless. So I kept reading the reviews and people were posting as of February as still recieving bad units. So I went to the store and wanted them to open it in front of me before I deal with the hassle of taking it home, hooking it up, and discovering this almost "promised" problem. I come to my BB after work and have them unbox it and turn it on and wouldn't you know it the whole bottom half of the TV has significant light bleed/cloud/flash lighting. Even the Geek Squad guy goes, "That is completely unacceptable." Apparently there is a Sony rep that works in the store and he acted way to calm, almost as if it was a normal occurrence, which at this point I believe to be true. The 4 other employees were apologetic and seemed more irate than I was about the TV's condition. So no way I am taking this home. I immediate told them that I'd like to return the TV and purchase the Samsung that I originally intended to the day before. They had 3 in stock the day before while I was there, but none the next. So they did a local check and the closest TV was 2 hours away. I said I'll go pick it up. So when we exchanged the TV's there was a balance that I had to pay. The Samsung was $1,999 the day before, and the Sony was $2,299 so I should be receiving a partial refund. Well I guess Best Buy changed the Samsung price and it went up to $2,499 the very next day. So now I'm pretty disappointed because I was talked out of the TV I wanted for something that is no longer in stock near me and now it's $500 more. Fortunately, customer service was understanding that I was talked into a more expensive "dud" TV the day before so they honored the $1,999 price that was offered the day before. I was grateful for that. So the next day I went and picked up the Samsung and it's a beautiful TV with no issues. For what it's worth the customer service experience was wonderful during my return/exchange. The original salesman left much to be desired but the customer service made up for it. So much so I wrote an email to the store manager explaining so. I had to rate this TV a 1 because it never even left the store. There's no reason a TV with an original MSRP of $4,000 should be having this serious of an issue. I understand it's the nature of edge lit LCD's, but it was absolutely horrible. It's such a shame that Sony put out such a dud product because it looked very promising and would be the coolest TV because of how thin it was.

Great TV -- No Problems
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I extensively read the reviews about screen problems with this TV. I was a bit wary of taking a chance on buying it, but Best Buy has such a customer friendly return policy, so I figured that I could return it if necessary. Might be inconvenient, but doable. Also, I really wanted a Sony again and the low-profile model was what I was looking for. The TV was greatly discounted--probably because of the problems reported--so I jumped on the deal. I am not disappointed! Out of the box, easy setup and NO problems with the picture. Maybe Sony fixed the white areas of the screen issue with more recent produced models. It's only been a couple of weeks, but the picture is amazing and I am so happy with the purchase. Take a chance!

No light bleed, yet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My 65x900C was hung on the wall 5 days ago and so far no light bleed. Even in a dark room at night with black bars, nothing. I expected at least a little, but nothing to speak of. I originally had my eye on the Samsung JS8500 but in my opinion the SD and HD picture looks way better on the Sony, and lets face it that is primarily what I or anybody else is going to be watching for the foreseeable future. Of course the the 4K is stunning as well. I have friends with the JS8500 so I could really play with it. A couple of Magnolia stores had the two models side by side and I could feed a lower quality signal and that's when you can see the Sony really start to differentiate itself. I questioned and saw the light bleed on the demo TVs in multiple stores and yet took the chance. I don't know if I'm lucky or the newer stock has fewer issues but so far I'm happy.
