Motion better than Samsung for less

I bought this tv after PLENTY of research. Sony's entry level priced 4K tvs with high dynamic range have 120hz panels with a motion rate of 960 while Samsung doesn't use 120hz panels until you get to their 8000 series which cost a couple hundred dollars more and only have a motion rate of 240. I don't know about everyone else, but I buy a tv so I can see pictures move smoothly, not so I can stare at stills or watch everything jump, skip, or judder. It even has a "live football" mode in the "action menu". Sony tvs also have an app called Ultra which allows you to buy and stream 4K movies without having to buy a $400 4K blu-ray player. You can rent 4K streaming movies through an app on the tv called Ultraflix for much, much cheaper than buying them. This is not to say that even channels I receive through my antenna don't look great. The upscaler in this tv does a fantastic job on lower resolution content too. The Android operating system allows me to download apps from the Google Play Store instead of the limited number hand picked to go in Samsung's "Smart Hub". Overall, this is a great tv!

    WI-FI and Smart

I purchased this TV on a one day sale for $1499, so my review rating is based on comparison with other products at this same price level. The TV provides wonderful color and great detail even when it is upscaling from a cable box. I can't comment on the sound from the TV because I run the sound through my stereo surround system. The set-up for the TV takes quite a while so have some dinner while you are waiting for the TV to update its software, android apps, and connect to Google. I am not sure how you could even set this TV up without a WI-FI internet connection (I guess you would have to run an Ethernet cable from your modem to the TV. In my case that would be an extremely long cord). My question about this TV and the others in the "Smart" TV category is: Why does the TV have to be so smart? I already have three other devices that connect the internet (Netflix, Pandora, browsing, etc., etc.) to a TV through HDMI cables, so I do not see any time in the future where I will utilize the apps supported by the TV. It makes you wonder how much less the TV would cost if built as just a TV and not with all the streaming and gaming capabilities that most people just don't need. Bottom Line -- this is a really great TV for the price and the one thing you will really appreciate is the non-reflective coating on the screen which other manufacturers do not have. I hate it when my TV screen reflects every light in the room - I don't like to watch TV in the dark.

We love the picture quality, ease of setup and very thin profile. The TV works well with the Sony soundbar to produce very clean picture and sound. One small quirk is the Internet connection drops sometimes and I seem to need to forget the connection and re-establish the connection. Odd - no other device on the home does this, so I assume it's the TV. Overall, this is a very good TV, easily recommended!

This TV wasn't being pushed as much as the Samsung or LG were and I actually found it by accident at Best Buy and found out it is just as good as the more expensive brands, just not as hyped up. The picture is great and really easy to set up. Glad I made this choice. After all it's a Sony!

We love the sharp picture and crisp bright colors of this TV. It also looks 3D even though it isn't. I did a ton of research on TVs before I bought this one for a rental house in the south. We loved it so much we bought one for our home. My husband said it's the best he's ever seen.

I have bought a lot of Sony products and been happy every time. This is no different. Picture quality is excellent. Easy to use. I paid a good deal for this technology, but I know this will last well beyond the average life span.

I bought this TV to replace a Samsung TV, which had a really flaky tuner. This one has a solid tuner. I am enjoying over the air HD programming with an old rabbit-ear antenna. That said, this is a great TV all round. The picture is crisp, 4K looks great whenever I can get the content. Another feature I was looking forward to was HDMI ARC, so I can use single cable between the TV and receiver that is connected to the home-theater speakers. That works great too. Android TV features are very convenient, including the voice remote. If I were to nitpick, there are some annoyances - mostly Android TV related. The built-in chromecast (which I trust is 4K capable), is feature deficient as compared to an actual Chromecast device; especially the daydream (backdrop) feature. Casting Netflix from the phone to the TV takes you to the 'Pick user' screen on the TV, which means you have to pick the show on the TV. All in all, I am extremely happy with the purchase so far.

For the price of this TV you are truly getting something amazing. Sony has been a fantastic product for years and this new line of TV's is amazing. Great colors, amazing picture and great quality. I looked at Samsung, LG, Sharp and the Sony's are by far the best picture for your money.

Easy set up and great HD image. Took the time to research a few websites and forums for custom picture settings from professionals. After tweaking the custom settings, the image is fantastic in both daylight and dark room situations. Great TV, especially at the current price point.

This tv is loaded with features, so I took a chance on it and gave it my own testing at home. I watch a lot of fast action sports and was not impressed with the supposed 240Hz refresh rate this tv was supposed to have. While watching hockey and baseball, I noticed some video lag when the camera would move fast to follow the puck or ball. For video gaming, this tv was excellent! Very lifelike images and excellent graphics. The perfect gaming tv for the price. Movies varied. Some of the family type (animated) movies were spectacular, while fast moving action movies were less impressive to me. I will say that I am a pretty tough critic when it comes to electronics, and even more so when it comes to shelling out big bucks for a tv. That being said, I did return this tv and exchanged it for a 65" Samsung 9000 series model. So far that tv has passed my testing and I would say is a keeper. So, spend the few hundred dollars more and go get yourself a Samsung 9000 series tv if you are into sports at all. The quantum dot technology is very impressive!

After my 10 year old Sony died just before the Super Bowl I needed to get it replaced pretty quick. Went to Best Buy and was a little over welmed by all the choices. The sales rep was very helpful with looking at all the options and narrowing down my choice to this model. I had the Geek Squad install it a couple days later. I can’t be happier with the clarity and color of the picture. What a great product!

    Pleased with X930D

I started out with a X850D and was not please with the light bleed, blacks etc. In a lighted room the 850D was very nice but darker room settings and it begins to show its flaws. I swapped for the X930D and couldn't be more pleased. I was skeptical at first with the not so good reviews floating all around the internet ( Display warped or bent, no power after a month or so, etc ). I immediately opened the carton upon delivery to check the displays frame and was in static to find it nice and straight. Be very careful setting it up or moving it around as it is very thin. I hooked it all up and fired it up and wow, a night and day difference in picture and blacks compared to the 830D. Fired up a 4k BD and adjusted some settings and it was very very nice. Did the same with a game and the PS4 Pro and was pleasantly surprised as well. Overall as of right now i couldn't be happier exchanging the 850D for the 930D as it is a huge difference in picture.

I had a lot of trouble with picking this tv, I was considering a vizio P series and it was supposed to be better on all levels according to all the research I had done, but reviews are one thing, seeing for yourself is another. conveniently I went to best buy and both tv's were mounted right next to each other. the XBR put the P series to shame! I couldnt believe my eyes, everything I was told was that the P series was better but with both of them sitting in front of me the results were undeniable! the picture had so much more depth and color! such a crisp image, couldn't be happier with my purchase, it was also $200 cheaper. win win. I love the usability of all the apps. it's so convenient when using YouTube, speak into the remote and it had never misspelled anything I've said, amazing. no need for any other device, don't need Google chrome cast, it's all built in, I have hulu, Amazon video, Netflix, chrome cast, Pandora etc. great tv

I purchased this 65" Sony for use in a basement for sports and family movies. I talked to several sales people at Best Buy and read several industry product reviews. The consistently high comments and my personal history drew me to Sony. The expert advice was Sony provided the best technology for minimizing blurs and showing true colors. A salesman told me Sony is the best picture out of the box where some of the competitors are tuned for showroom display under the bright lights and won't look as great at home without professional picture adjustment. In the store I felt Sony had the most realistic picture compared to the competition which seemed cartoonish with overly saturated colors on the demos. I was told to get the 850D or higher as this brought me to the best processing capacity within the Sony lineup. In the store I compared this Sony with a few higher models using the same images and decided I couldn't see enough of a difference to get anything more expensive. 4 stars for the excellent Sony picture. My only reason for withholding a 5th is there are fewer apps available with The Google play based platform than some of the competitors platforms. This means I have to go through a computer to view some streaming sites rather than being able to open a preloaded viewer. We've had it at home for a month and been extremely pleased with the purchase!

TV itself is excellent. Color and picture quality is awesome. My only issue is that the sensor that receives the signal from the remote control is located at the bottom of the TV so if you have a soundbar, you will need to purchase a riser or get up off the couch every time you need to increase the volume. Probably not an issue for anyone planning to mount this TV to a wall.

I researched my TV options carefully before committing to the Sony 65X850D and found that the product was very consistent with the reviews I read. The picture is flawless even close up. Only negatives are the smart TV features are a little quirky and the initial Android TV took time to start. For me that doesnt matter - I use a Savant Remote and paired it with a SONOS playbar and Subwoofer to create a dream home theatre. I have gone from the place no one wants to watch movies and sports in my neighborhood to the place everyone wants to be.

Good side view picture , good in most lighting , Had a 55 samxxx plasma , didn't last very long , switched back to sony , my first one lasted 25 plus years , and would probable still work if I had it. I like the features on this tv , I wish the amazon would load faster , but that is probable not the TV's fault. The price was right , and so far I'm very happy with it.
