Nice TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have a 50" Pioneer plasma that we really like. At the time that was the biggest set that would fit in our entertainment layout. Because of the newer designs larger TV's take up less room. After researching we decided on the Sony 850D 65". I figured that we might as well get the newest and greatest 4K. Have had the set about a week. So far we are very pleased. The picture is very clear with 1080. Watched a little 4K on YouTube, to be honest I don't see that much difference. Anyway very happy with this TV, Geek Squad brought it out and set it up. I programmed my Harmony remote and all works well.

Excellent TV!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was time to upgrade my TV from an old Sony 57 inch projection TV to the latest 4K technology. I shopped around and decided on a Vizio model. The picture on the Vizio was good....while it lasted. I got a total of 10 hours of TV time before the TV failed. It would not power on. I contacted Best Buy, and after a few attempts to replace the TV, the model became unavailable. Best Buy went above and beyond to rectify the situation. I finally decided to go back to the name brand that has done me right for so many years. My old Sony rear projection TV lasted14 years, and was still working fine when I decided to replace it, so I knew what to expect from the Sony brand. This TV is simply amazing! So easy to set up, and the picture quality is excellent! The TV itself is so thin, and looks great in my living room. I'm extremely happy with my new TV, and I'm also happy that I was able to replace an older Sony product with the latest Sony product. My experience buying a new TV was a little rocky at first, but I can't thank Best Buy enough for everything they did to make things right. Hats off to Best Buy for their great customer service, and to Sony, who continues to make amazing products! I will be a loyal customer to both for years to come! Buy this TV and start enjoying what it has to offer!

Great TV for a family room
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My beloved Samsung plasma TV needed to be replaced after a dark line appeared across the screen. So I read on-line reviews here and on Amazon and visited my local store several times trying to decide between Samsung and LG. The local sales rep said that he was going to buy this TV (65" Sony 850) on Black Friday. He was not so enthralled by Samsung (which I had every intention of buying that evening). So I went and looked at the Sonys on display, the 750 and the 850) Both were very nice. The 850 was more cash than what I wanted to spend. So I went home. Read more on-line reviews. Then decided to buy the 750 version for $999. The local Best Buy was out of them on Wednesday, day before Thanksgiving. Went back on Black Friday and bought my in-laws a 50" Samsung (it is nice by they way) and the Sony 850 for my wife and I. Because at some point in time you get tired of reading reviews and staring at TV's up on a wall at the Best Buy!!! A person really gets tired of reading really long-winded ones like mine :) Did you ever notice that the Sony TV reviews were about 20 times as long as the Samsung reviews? I think the Sony buyers just simply like their TVs enough to write long reviews. The TV was easy to install, and easy to program my DISH remote. I was not overly happy to have to install the IR Blaster. Never had to do that before. Sony needs to figure that one out. I played around with the settings. There is no end of adjustments you can make. Many folks complained about the sound. They were right, it does leave a little to be desired. Perhaps I was spoiled with the sound from my big heavy plasma TV. Sony sound bars are a minimum $150 on sale, so perhaps that is the cure. I would like to be able to tell all of you new owners the best settings to make the nicest picture on your new TV, but there are just too many. Wait for a rainy day and try them all - as it will give you something to do while you are setting up your new sound bar. Sony, you should invest in some new sound/speaker technology. Ask the Bose folks for help, they are masters as it. By the way, I have the TV in the corner of my 18' x 22' family room, right next to a window. I have no complaints about the picture quality or motion blur or black levels or light bleeding (I really don't know what that is so ignorance is bliss sometimes). Enjoy your new TV, I am.

Best Upscaling tv on the market
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I looked and read every review for two months before deciding to purchase this tv, and it still took two different models to get me to spend the money on this one. Until 4K is widely available we are stuck with 1080P or 1080i video quality. Upscaling is as important as picture quality, and this Sony XBR65X850D has both!. I first got the 850c from amazon and it arrived with a broken screen. Return!! Then went to Best Buy and got the 900c, It had light bleed, but was seduced by the price, Return!!!, finally listened to Best Buy sales person and spent the extra money for the 850D. I was always going to get a sony for the picture quality and most of all the upscaling. Very happy with the tv overall, wish the remote had backlighting!!

A super UHD 4K TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Went into the store to choose between the Sony 60 inch and the Samsung. After a good look at both and being able to compare them side by side there wasn't any other choice than the Sony... well, except that we chose the 65 inch over the 60. Ours is a 2015 model, and we're well pleased with the whole package. Excellent picture - well, if you're off to the side it does begin to wash out, but our viewing area is pretty much right out in front so it isn't a concern at all.... COntrols are easy to learn, and since I used Geek Squad to set it up, there were no problems at all. We're still finding out there are neat features on this puppy. We're very happy with our purchase and have recommended it to two friends (one of whom did purchase it and also likes it very much. One thought... the bass seemed to be a bit too full, and the treble, especially women's voices, were a problem for this old guyl. Adjusting audio is quick and easy and it didn't take much to make those sibilant lady's whispering voices come through clean and almost crisp. Good value, pleased with our purchase.

Replaced a new LG with this one
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After picking up a newer Xbox One S, I realized my less than 2 year old HDTV had to go, as it was 4K but not HDR. I first got an LG, since I wanted to persist the 3D option, bu the LG had serious issues with light bleed and some bizarre problems with the right 1/5th of the screen, so I took it back. Looking around, I ended up finding this to be the best option short of OLED, and when I sat back and thought about it, I almost never used the 3D to watch movies anyway. My 13 year old son hated it since it was difficult with his glasses anyway, to wear other glasses over them. So I decided I'd ditch the unused 3D side of things for a better overall TV and price. Got this home, and was MUCH happier with this than the LG. Picture is crisp and clear, HDR and non HDR. I only have two HDR 4k discs so far since I only bought the TV's two days ago, so I've got The Secret Life of Pets and The Martian. This was a bit of a pain since there's no normal "Menu" button and options all under there. It took me a while and a few internet searches to discover just WHERE to actually enable the HDR option, since if you go off of one place, you can turn on an HDR kind of mode, but that is NOT actually enabling HDR on the input. That's in ANOTHER spot I never would've looked, since when you hit that button, you see all the apps and junk. So until I hit the internet and found that you have to go to "HOME" and then go down past all the apps to get to yet ANOTHER hidden settings area, where you can enable the different HDMI setting, I never would've known. But once I did that, the Xbox stopped nagging me about being connected to a "suitable" TV, and I tried both of my discs. And I was VERY happy with the result compared to that LG I had for a few hours. And even in a brighter mode, I have none of the light bleed on the edges that I was getting with the LG, and that weird thing the LG did with my Destiny logo as I loaded something doesn't happen here. Video gaming is fine, no lag, and looks great. I have everything going through a Denon receiver that supports HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0 so I'm only using the single HDMI input on the TV. My receiver switches between my Xbox 360, Xbox One S, PS3, PS4, WII U, Media Center PC, Amazon 4k Fire TV box, and cable box. All look great, since both the receiver and the TV would upscale non 4k items to make them look a little better. This thing cost a grand less than the Samsung I'm replacing in the Great room cost just 22 months ago, is 5 inches larger, and has HDR. Even not considering the price, I've never had a better TV. But for this price? Simply amazing. And unlike that LG, I don't have that ugly silver bezel around the front , it's back to a thin black bezel. I also like the narrow base, since I have a few black shelf slabs I stacked under my old TV to raise it up a bit off of the stand so that my speakers and such didn't get in the way of the picture. So this stand fits on them, unlike the LG stand that was too wide.

Great TV!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all I went back and forth, comparing this TV with the Samsung UN65KS8000FXZA. Both TVs are great TVs, but for me the eye test led me to go with the Sony XBR-65X850D. I am a big time sports fan and the sports programming just looked better in my opinion. That being said the Samsung is a great option. Anyway, I am still sifting through all of the great extras like Netflix, Google Play, Amazon Prime and PlayStation Network (just to name a few because there are literally thousands of apps) this TV provides. The picture quality and color is outstanding and ultra realistic. Whether you are watching your favorite TV show that has been upscaled or a 4k movie or the MLB playoffs, you will literally be amazed. The picture is clean, sharp and you don't lose any picture quality from angled viewing. The 4K PROCESSOR X1 4K is definitely a game changer when it comes to image enhancement. Now Sony has the XBR-65X750D which is a good TV, but you will thank yourself later by going with the XBR-65X850D. And there are a multitude of settings that you adjust to match the content you are watching; in particular Cinema pro and Sports just to name a few. And did I mention that there is a live football picture mode for football fanatics. Boom! If you talk to the remote, it will listen. Okay, not really, but you speak into the remote and call up movies much like the Apple TV remote for the new Apple TV contraption. Plus you can connect directly to Twitter and troll what others are watching so you won't be left at the water cooler clueless about what happened on TV the night before. The only con I have is that when I watch a 4K movie on a 4K DVD player, it will not allow me to adjust the picture settings. Is there a way to adjust the picture or is it preset to Sony's ideal way of watching 4K movies via a 4K DVD player. I need someone from Sony to get back at me...

AWESOME 4K ULTRA HD TV!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony nailed it again. I finally decided to upgrade from my 6 years old Sony 55 inch 1080P Television. My old Sony never failed me, not even once, now it moved to my bedroom. I have been shopping around for a 4K Ultra HD TV and never did i think of switching to any other brand. I looked into this 850D model and the features and the power inside this TV is similar to its 930D counterpart for a cheaper price. I bought it 2 days ago and simply amazed with the picture quality. The 4K picture is crisp and true to life or even better quality... Setting up is easy, so far no problem. Sound quality is not that good but hey everybody is connecting this to their home theater or sound bar. The applications are great but beware that the audio when you use the TV app will operate only with your TV speaker. If you want to send signal to your home theater you ave to buy Optical Cable. Hopefully in the next firmware upgrade they will be able to resolve the issue. This is not limited to Sony but for most if not all of the high end Televisions. Great buy and perfect timing as 4K TV prices dropped. I highly recommend this product, I am a very loyal and happy SONY customer.

2 part story
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will start by saying I intended to make my last visit to Best Buy the final visit ever. But a strong management team at the Folsom Best Buy turned what was set to be a horrible experience into something I want to share with others. Ok...the first part of the story is the purchase of a Sony XBR-65X900C. this TV should not be for sale anywhere from what I've read in reviews. The 900C has the worst light bleed I've ever seen. Ok...Now the good part of the story. After boxing up the 900C and taking it back for a refund I was greeted by a manager of the TV department (Alex). I was set for a nasty exchange of words because I was highly upset that Best Buy could sell such a piece of garbage knowing of the light bleed issue. Alex offered to upgrade to a 2016 model but at a $800 upcharge. I said no thanks and told him I would shop online for a better deal. Alex then offered a $250 discount on the purchase of a XBR-65X850D. I gladly accepted and completed the transaction. I could not believe what a beautiful TV this 850D is. All the features and the most amazing picture I have ever seen. I would recommend anybody looking for a new TV to ask for Alex at the Folsom Best Buy.

Great TV purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, my experience with my purchase of this Sony was excellent. I purchased a different brand and was extremely disappointed. I returned the tv and exchanged it. I want to complement the employees of the Myrtle Beach Best Buy. My transaction was pleasant. I want to commend David the salesperson that helped me. He was knowledgeable and helped me choose this tv. Now the tv. Everything about it is amazing. If you're looking for a 4k tv this is it. You won't be sorry.

Great Value for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my first TV purchase in many years. I researched for weeks and looked over many reviews. I visited all the major retailers and online stores. In the end decided to go with Best Buy for 2 reasons, First the sales associates go out of their way to make my experience a good one and secondly; I get Best Buy points. Oh and Best Buy honors their price match where as the other major "brick and mortars" are a toss up. Ok now for the product: The Goods 1. Out of the box this picture on the X850D is spectacular especially with sports. Watched a hockey game first thing after setup. Fast moving scenes, I notice no artifacts or lag. The colors were crisp and bright. 2. Preset modes need zero adjusting at least for me. 3. Lowest Black can be adjusted nicely for dark rooms and same for the whites for bright rooms without compromising PQ. 4. Upscaling to 4K during normal TV broadcast with my directv setup is extremely good. 5. Great PQ from angled viewing. That's one of many advantages of a flat vs curved panel. The Bad 1. Not having a swivel base is a minor issue when you have a panel of this quality 2. Bezel is plastic, although cosmetically it looks nice, you would think for the next step down from the flagship in this brand it would still be metal. 3. I never liked the auto light sense functions on TV's, I always disable them. Although anybody can nitpick anything and find flaws with any TV, I don't find much wrong for any normal user of this TV. The panel on this TV is most likely the same used by part of the Samsung 8000 series and LG equivalent (7700). Matter of fact its probably a LG panel and Sony surprisingly does more with it than both Samsung and LG in each series. Thumbs up to Sony for this TV, I picked it over the LGUH7700 and the Samsung UN65KU7000FXZA

Sony 65 inch HDR 4K
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Stunning... Absolutely stunning! The HDR, the 4K, the rich colors, the brightness... it's all incredible. Seems like a steal at its full price. Snagged an open box buy on it from my Best Buy, so a genuine bargain at half the current price. If you have a PS4 Pro, do yourself a favor and get one of these while the prices are this low (currently $1399). You won't beat it for this price with anything else out there. Believe me, I did my research.

A lot of TV for $1799.00
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have a 940D as my main viewing screen and wanted to upgrade the older Sony we had in the bedroom. Also wanted to keep the Sony brand as it is the brand I have used for many, many years. Looked at a lot of 60 and 65 inch models from many manufacturers. Both Samsung and LG make 55 inch models with HDR at a much lower price that have excellent picture quality. But took the plunge. Picture quality is excellent. Not full array LED backlighting like my 940D but frankly I am hard pressed to say I notice a significant difference. Black levels are good, color is excellent. Bought the 4 year replacement warranty as I always do with TVs. Had one freeze up since purchase a couple of weeks ago and had to unplug the TV to get back on track. After a firmware update have not had a glitch since. A very good TV for the money and I recommend it highly. Unless you can go for the 940D! <g>. But 75" is an awful lot of TV for nay room except the main theater room. Kudos to Sony on another success.
