Very Good Television For The Money

If you are looking for a great mid-range 4K television set, then look no further than the XBR850D. This set does not overdrive color like some other competitors. In fact, it reproduces very natural looking colors. Contrast is good, not great. HDR does a good job making HD pictures look even better. Remote and sound are not great, but for the money well-worth it.

Excellent view after update and reset

I purchased this TV about a month ago just after my returning my Samsung JS8500. Went to Bestbuy and found this TV just sparkling in appearance. Performed research and found this TV to check all the attributes I required (and no 3D). After initially getting it home and mounting it on the wall, the sound it not bad (I have had worst) but I have a Klipsch sound bar (no further comment on sound). The Picture was great, but super dark in the corners and the blacks made everything hard to see. I updated the TV firmware and then performed a factory reset. All of my previous attempts of calibration were gone, but the beautiful picture appeared. Yes, updated the firmware and factory reset and no calibration equals a really beautiful picture. I'm a happy camper. Note: There was nothing wrong with the Samsung JS8500 except for hardware issue and JS8500 was not in stock in my area.

    Excellent TV for the cost!

I had a Sony 55" TV for 7 years. It finally gave out last month. I did a lot of research on new TV's, and this TV is most definitely the best TV for the price. Switching to a 65 in screen make a huge difference from the 55 in. The smart TV function is easy to use. I did try out the new Samsung 8000. Well made TV, but I wasn't impressed with the way it handled the light backgrounds (a white wash effect) and true colors. This Sony TV is by far the very best picture I have ever seen on a TV. I set it to VIVID and did no other adjustments. The depth of the picture and the clarity is superior to any other TV out there for the same cost. The colors are real and truly spectacular!

Better than 1 yr old Samsung

I have the last generation Samsung 8500 series in 55" which is a really nice TV with one exception. The off center viewing is really bad. Colors wash out when you are viewing only slightly off center. This is a known issue with Samsung. That unit is just over a year old. Ignoring most of the "expert" online reviews I recently added this Sony to my home. While the expert reviews suggest that Samsung is still the way to go at this price point, I couldn't disagree more. The Sony maintains excellent picture quality at any angle and beats the nearly new Samsung in overall real world picture. Of course this is an uneducated, non expert opinion. I would take all online reviews with a grain of salt. Samsung are now controlling much of the market and it's tough to tell how much they are influencing online reviews.

    Stunning 4K and colors

This Sony 65-inch 4K HDR TV has the best 4K picture for a back lighted LED TV IMHO. I compared it to the OLED's and the Sony had about the best video quality without the huge expense. I replaced a samsung plasma 1080P. 1080P video on this TV is great, but if you view a 4K video you will be amazed. I thought I would not be able to tell much of a difference, but I could. You think there is not much 4k content available? Think again. Youtube is full of 4K content. Just use the built in android TV w/youtube and use the voice feature to speak into the remote and search for 4K videos. With HDR and an xbox one s or PS4 you will be set. After purchasing this TV I upgraded from a Gopro Hero 4 silver to a Hero 5 4K camera. Now our videos we make we can watch in the awesome 4K resolution on this wonderful TV.

Sony x850d. D is for dim

Overall a "colorful" display. The ips panel has a real advantage of allowing viewers to see this tv on an angle without much of change in picture quality.. PlayStation 4 non - pro worked great with motions on live football or sports mode, and tv does a great job with upscaling even from 720 p content. However the big negitive I found is that overall the picture is dim, maybe around 450 nits of brightness and in hdr, there are issues with dark scenes causing blacks to turn a fuzzy grey. Definitely not the tv for dark rooms with movies shot in low light. In the picture, top tv is the Sony x850d 65inch, bottom is an 7 year old Samsung ccfl lit 46 inch for comparison of picture quality.

Great picture quality but the tv is soooo slow. The googletv update introduced so many issues and as of a year ago no update. Just stuck in its current lackluster state.

    Great TV, bad WIFI

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this TV to replace our old plasma TV in the living room. It is a great TV in regards to picture quality but the WiFi connection has given me a lot of issues. We primarily use Hulu, Pandora, and Amazon video and the WiFi disconnects frequently. At the location of my TV I average a data speed of about 68 megs. I have no trouble with streaming 4K when the WiFi is connected. I have tried connecting it to both the 2.4 and 5 ghz channels along with every other trick I could find on the internet (from both Sony and also user advice) of how to "fix" the issue. Finally I went and bought a Net-gear AC750 wireless extender and plugged the TV into using an Ethernet cable. I then switched off the WiFi on the TV and it works fantastically. So i would say this is a great TV if you are using a wired LAN connection or a great TV on WiFi is you are okay with buying an 80 dollar WiFi extender.

    x850d Review

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I first came in to purcahse the Vizio 70" 4K television and a Sonax TV stand. A few Best Buy employees were passing me and not asking if I needed help (they could have been tied up with another customer). But one employee I saw was walking from customer to customer and asking if they needed help. So, I decided that was the dude I want to help me. I waited for him after he helped another customer, and I asked him what he thought of the Vizio 70", and then asked me, "Are you stuck on the 70" size requirement?" I said, "Not at all". He then moved me over to the Sony Bravia 4K x850d, and said that was the best purchase in the store for the same amount of money. This was weird because the whole time I was looking at the Vizio and the Sony kept catching my eye in the next isle. So, he gave me a sales pitch that was a little over my head, but it was a ton of help. He then ran my credit and I was able to finance both the Sony TV and the Sonax TV stand. When finally bringing the Sony TV home and unboxing, make sure to pull out the plastic clips at the bottom and pull the box up towards the ceiling. When finally hooking it up to my Yamaha AV receiver with HDMI 1080p up converting, with Uverse cable HDMI input, Apple TV input, and Sony BluRay input. The TV has a great picture and even better picture from an angle, which is weird, but I think I am not the only one who noticed it. DVDs on the Sony BluRay player are not the best, BluRays look very good, but still not like what the 4k example was in the Best Buy showroom. UVerse cable looks awesome on the HD channels, terrible on non HD channels, and the Apple TV honestly looks the best out of all 3 inputs. I think to get a better picture to resemble the 4K in the showroom, I will need to get a new AV receiver with 4k upconverting capabilities. Otherwise, great TV and does everything the products markets. Blacks are not as great as the OLED, but for the price I am happy. Also, if they made a 60" I would have returned the 65" to get that. My apartment is too small for a 65", and I am very happy I didn't go with the Vizio 70". One of my favorite things it does and I never read this in any specs or reviews, the HDMI input will read if a signal is coming through and atomically turn the TV on. This is great because I used to have to the TV remote in reach to turn the TV on and off, which was the only use for the remote since I use an AV receiver for volume and input selections. Also, the HDMI input in the TV recognizes a source is decoding the sound (AV receiver in this case) and it automatically cancels the sound to the TV speakers. Another great feature I never read or heard about anywhere.

This is a great tv. I have the "65 4K HDR tv and it's the perfect for the price. The upscale of 1080p content to 4K is beautiful. Watching the NBA finals upscale to 4K, you can see the difference of clarity. The apps on this tv allow you to watch additional content in 4K. Overall this tv is well worth the buy. Playing pc games in 4K provides a great experience.

So we shopped for a while on a new TV. We have used all different brands in the past. We narrowed this down between the LG and this one. I love sports and the refresh rate is what pushed us over to buy the Sony. Now my Nephews always say buy Sony. We plugged it in and turned on a game TV wasn't even on for a minute before the first pass. My wife and I looked at each other and both said the same thing. You can see the laces on the football as it rotates through the air crystal clear. So happy with this TV Love it!!!

We haven't own a Sony, since the CRT days. Whether playing Xbox One games, streaming Netflix movies, catching up on various YouTube videos, or watching "retina burning" Blu-ray movies... This 4K w/ HDR definitely does NOT disappoint! *Once prices get a little more reasonable, we may get a 4K player or upgrade game systems to accomodate the higher resolution videos... While I'm sure there will be a viewing difference, at the moment we don't feel like it's worth the $ or that we are missing out.

    Absolutely amazing TV

First of all the hype around 4K is completely true. Watching an UHD movie or playing a 4K capable game on a PS4 Pro on here looks ridiculously good, and not just a little bit, it's like the difference you saw when you went from SD to regular HD (make sure you dig around in the video settings and turn on all the extra features and the ENHANCED mode for any attached 4K capable to get the best out of it). People always talk about how amazing the color and clarity are with HDR too, and it sounds like marketing BS, but when you experience it for yourself you won't believe how many different color ranges you were missing out on before. Second, you can forget about cable. This thing has all the streaming video services you will ever need, the multiple USB ports support external hard drives and flash drives, and this thing can read and play almost ANY video file you can find. Third, the android OS has numerous fully functional emulators available, so you can throw literally hundreds of classic games on here, easily sync up a PS4 controller, and play all your old favorites, and with the various color and picture auto-enhancements offered by this TV and its internal processor, even the oldest games will look better than ever. This thing is an entertainment powerhouse and any doubt I had about the high price was erased before the end of the first day of using it. Highly, HIGHLY recommended.

Awesome TV but don't buy online

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The TV is awesome, the color, picture, screen-size, all are fantastic.. though now i wish i got the 75in.. But it is a fantastic TV. All that being said, there are some that are shipped incorrectly, and as a result of the change in temperature, and how they are handled tend to bend.. The Sony Company will not warranty them, and unless geek-squad sets it up, they don't warranty the bend at best buy either.. So it is important you buy the TV in the store, and before you leave the store, unbox the top of the box and make sure the top of the screen is arrow straight, otherwise you'll be stuck with a bent screen..
