Poor backlight, Flakey software, combersom remote

I have been using this TV for a few months now and have never been as disappointed with a TV in my life. 1.) Backlight, near the bottom left there are 3 bright rays of light that bleed through the black. Black levels are horrible. Far worse then any TV I have previously had. In order to get a decent picture I have had to drop the brightness near minimum due to the backlight bleed through. 2.) OS/Software. This is the first TV I have had that "crashes". It has either rebooted, or freezes on several occasions. 3.) Remote. While most manufacturers have optimized the remote, sony has gone the opposite and added more buttons. They added more buttons then I have ever seen even buttons around buttons. Trying to use in the dark is early impossible.

    Junk after 3 years

This TV is a good 1080P TV. Here why it was a terrible choice in the end. Buy a different brand. Don't let anyone tell you Sony panels are different, they all come out of just a couple of the same factories except Samsung. You might still not get a Samsung panel even then. Edge-lit LEDs are going out, 15-20 across the bottom and enough across the center it is getting a shadow in the middle of the screen. It does not process 4K HDR without black crushing the whole picture. Firmware update cause to on/off to only work by pushing the power button on the back. Then the remote will work. It will not turn the TV on, just off. Remote eats batteries. OS is terrible modded Android, slow and will not stay connected to WiFi (This would be a deal killer, but this is just a monitor for us)

Good Picture, but extra features are useless

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The picture is nice, but I can't use any of the built-in features like Netflix or Google Cast, etc., unless I want to listen to them on the built-in speakers instead of my surround sound system, because the ARC doesn't work with my Sony receiver, nor does Bravia Sync. I don't know whether the problem is the receiver or the TV or both, but both are current Sony models that both say they support Bravia Sync and I am done wasting my time messing with it, so both get two stars.

    Light Bleed and pulsing

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The TV has terrible light bleed around the bottom left hand corner of the TV. The tv at times will "pulse" because I guess it just has no idea how to handle the backlighting... Most of the time you can't see it but it's starting to drive me crazy... returning tomorrow(which is a HUGE PAIN) and going to try one other set... probably not a good idea, we shall see.

    Disappointment

Bought this tv after doing some research and comparing it to the Samsung equivalent. I had it for a week when the screen went black. Could not pull up the home screen or do anything. Sound still worked however. Returned the tv since it was within the 15 day return period and ordered the Samsung 65" 8000 series. Disappointed with Best Buy overall but that's another story. Anyway I probably won't buy a Sony again.

So disapointed; my 2012 Sharp Aqous is better

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

After a thorough review of available 4K TV's around the $2,000 price point, we settled in on this Sony based on the recommendation of the Best Buy sales person. After watching numerous shows and movies, we could not be more disappointed. The TV spills light on the wall behind it (at first, I actually thought this might be some type of back lighting feature; it's not). Worse, there is an overwhelming amount of light bleed in dark scenes. The ability to handle dark scenes was a highlighted feature of this TV in the store, but it absolutely sucks. When the credits roll at the end of a show (all black background, scrolling white text only), there is white bleeding into the black background at all four corners. We were looking to upgrade a 2012 55" Sharp Aqous. By far, the Aqous has a much better picture. Very, very disappointing for a brand new 4K TV at this price point. Looks like we'll be replacing this with a Samsung.

Peace of Junk- Select Samsung TVs.

TV turns off while watching. This continues almost 2 to 3 times a month. Finally, after turning on the TV, it turned off itself and won't start after following all the smart start up information from Sony TV guide and Sony customer support. I would rate this TV "-" but there was no selection for it. Bought it in July 2016. Issues started in 2019 due to covid-19 even though we had 5 years full warranty we did not take it back or called Best Buy's geek squad. Now after it has been 5 years 9 months, the SONY BRAVIA XBR65850D gave up its life....

    Horrendous

It took about 3 months, but I finally accepted the terrible light bleed issues in every corner of the television. Then came the constant error messages plaguing the television almost every night. One right after the other, until you are forced to do a "hard reset". If you don't reset yourself, the TV will randomly turn itself off, no matter what you're watching. Overtime in the super bowl? This TV doesn't care. This TV has pushed me away from Sony for life. Stick with Samsung or LG.

I purchased a sony 4k tv 2 years ago. I paid $3000 (originally $5000). The tv was delivered, has not moved since, and has hadnormal use -- a couple hours a day. Two weeks ago vertical lines just appeared on the right side that are apparently permanent. I contacted sony and their response essentially was, "Don't hurt yourself throwing it in the trash."

    Bad Sony support

After 2 years the panel will fail and is irrepairable, so make sure you purchase the 5 yr geek squad protection. Sony does not back their product after the manufacturer warranty is up no matter how much you spend. I will never purchase a Sony TV again.
