Great OLED TV
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced a 10 year old LCD 50" set with the Sony Bravia 65" OLED and it was well worth the the price difference from an LED or QLED display. The LED sets never had true blacks, but the OLED is amazing. The blacks are black and not grey. The contrast is fantastic and the sound is good enough that I didn't even need a sound bar. The picture jumps off the screen and the fast processor makes using the smart apps quick, no lag time. I ordered it on line, picked it up at the store and they even loaded it into my car. Best Buy had the best price and the purchase and pick up couldn't have been easier. Setup was simple.

Excellent Vivid and Natural Warm Color Picture
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.About 95 percent of my TV watching is from a non-4k source. Mostly Direct TV. I live in a very low bandwidth (i.e., satellite provider) area so effectively no streaming of high GB content for me. So the up-scaling capability of lower resolution content of this model was important to me. This 2020 A8H model gets the same processor that was in last years top end 2019 A9G model and it's excellent. The new X Motion Clarity (which even the 2019 A9G didn't have) makes a difference for smooth clear fast moving scenes. I've been very happy with that feature on the TV. The picture quality on this 2020 A8H with a Direct TV source (HD or SD) with the TVs upscaling is excellent. I find the picture vivid, warm, and a natural color reproduction on the screen. I agree that some LG OLED models are brighter, but I find this picture much softer, warm and more natural to watch for a long period of time. Still, if you are in a bright room, this probably is not the TV for you or you would need to be able to darken the room with blinds, curtains, etc. During set-up, I set up the new sound feature of this TV and it sounded very crisp and clear for a TV mounted on the wall with internal speakers. But I have a surround sound system, so the TV sound use pretty much ended right there. Still you will be happy with the TV sound it that's all you have to start. The only two 4k HDR discs I do have to play currently are just a phenomenal picture quality. I do have a bunch of older DVDs. If I was disappointed in anything on this TV, I'd say I'm not getting as good of up scale on older DVDs as I thought I would, but I may have to still make adjustments on the TV and/or Blue-ray player for those older DVDs. Since I was able to purchase this TV at Best Buy at an introductory price, I think it's a great value TV even if it's still on the high price end of 65-inch OLED TVs.

Buy once/cry once. Sony OLED reigns!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: great picture, perfect blacks, great viewing angles, excellent Sony motion handling. Cons: a little expensive, no HDMI 2.1, glass screen looks great, but reflects light Lacking HDMI 2.1 did not bother me as I am using this for watching movies and TV primarily. OLED is the best TV technology due to perfect blacks instead of dark gray like most other TV's. You can get decent blacks from a VA panel LED, but the price you pay for that is poor viewing angles. The HDMI 2.1 problem is really only a problem for playing the next-gen gaming systems. But because of the possibility of "burn-in" maybe OLED is not a good choice for gamers anyway. The glass screen does reflect so if you will be using this in a room without light control you need to take this into consideration. The only real con may be the high price, but you have to pay more to get the best. Buy once, cry once. I am coming from a 1080p projector on a 120" screen. I do miss the large screen, but even going up to a 77" OLED would be a lot more "crying" so I went with today's standard, the 65". However, I purchased my set when it was on sale and got an open box which further reduced the price. Best Buy said it was certified like new, and they did not lie. When you buy a new TV you open the box yourself. Mine was opened by someone else. Who cares? Sound. Finally an odd thing about this set, and maybe other TV's do this, is the speakers are the screen. The sound is coming from the screen itself. I need to do some research on this technology, but turn on the TV's speakers and listen as the sound is coming straight from the glass. Plus the sound is actually decent and I don't mind using it and leaving my Denon/Klipsch/Monolith system off from time to time. Sony and Best Buy, well done!

Great Picture - Easier Use And More Apps Than LG
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good rule of thumb: Make the people at the store have the least tech-savvy person who'll be using any device play with the remote before you buy it... you'll thank me. We have an LG TV that uses the WebOS Magic Remote... Doctors can use this device to determine the severity of a patient's hand tremors. My wife hates the remote... it lives in a drawer while we use the remote to the Roku that we bought to use several apps and streaming services that don't work on WebOS. Oh... and if you think you can work around the WebOS problems by using the browser or connecting through wireless to another device, think again. Most video formats don't work through their browser, and the TV doesn't like to connect consistently to other devices. You probably should also get a tripod or other stand for the remote. That said, I have always wanted a Sony OLED. While the cheaper LG CX has a slightly brighter (admittedly gorgeous) panel, this (equally gorgeous) Sony works better for movies in my darkened room. The AndroidTV OS, while still limited, is FAR-SUPERIOR to WebOS in that there are numerous apps (including most streaming services) and the connectivity with my Windows PC's and Android Phones and tablets is pretty good. We bought this TV for Streaming TV and Movies (the main services plus a couple of unexpected sources), and it does a great job. We are not gamers, so that didn't get tested. The TV never, ever, lags. 2 Last Things: 1. If you aren't comfortable with handling a TV with a VERY THIN screen, let the professionals install it. My son and I have both set up several "flat screens", but the thinness of this screen scared us both. You might let them handle the picture setup while they're there. It was a little bit awkward to get the picture just right. 2. If you don't like seeing the pores on the faces of people on TV, and you don't want really cheap set or costume designs (like bodies on medical examiner tables on murder mystery shows) to become obvious, you shouldn't buy something with this clear of a picture on such a large screen. I'm sure I'll continue to love this one.

Superb picture, software could use a fix or two.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. An excellent picture, which of course is why you go with OLED. Others have mentioned the remote as being less than stellar, maybe it is - maybe it isn't. For me, it is a completely functional remote that's easy to use. The screen as a speaker is remarkably useful. Where I find weakness is with the software. It is functional and speedy. But the "Select / OK" button doesn't always perform the task to which it is currently assigned. Say you hit the settings button and navigate to the "Screen Off" function, I'd expect that tapping the "OK" button would turn the screen off. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I've found that once I navigate to a function that I want to perform, that if there is a direction (up / down / left / right) that goes nowhere and I try to go that direction a couple of times, and this resets the OK button to its desired functionality. Ugh.

Great Value and exceptional quality
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Incredible picture out-of-the box, OLED is the way to go! The contrast is amazing (of course, it's OLED). It's the contrast and quality we've become accustomed to on most of our current mobile phones, and that really only translates well to larger formats in the OLED form factor. I've read several reviews that state vivid picture mode is a bit blown out and overexposed when not viewing HDR10 source material, and while that's pretty accurate, it's important to point out that its super-easy to switch between video modes to accommodate various sources. Additionally, it's really pretty easy on this TV to set-up a custom video mode that helps you find a happy medium for your primary viewing needs. I don't personally like the soap opera effect and so I disable it (typically) anyway. But I have to say, the motion engine on this Sony is really configurable and the most fluid I've experienced, especially once you customize the motion settings. You can really dial "out" the blurring and noise without it feeling weird. Love it for nature documentaries. My favorite thing about this TV (and this might seem silly to some) is that it gives off little to no heat. My previous LED screen got really hot and triggered the AC constantly. Bottom line: I know OLED's can be a big price jump, but it's worth the extra expense (in my opinion). I waited over a year for this to go on clearance and I didn't pay much more than a base no frills side-lit LED, frankly, and less than some of the full array screens currently available.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was torn between the Sony and the LG tv but I am glad I went with the Sony. The X1 Ultimate chip does an amazing job of upscaling and the sound is much better on the Sony. The blacks are amazing on this tv and the colors look so natural. I know this tv is missing HDMI 2.1 but I don't think it's going to make a difference with the ps5 or the Xbox. If it did I believe sony would have it made available on all their TVs. Also, the Ps4 games look so much better on this tv.

No Regrets
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a splurge. I was looking at the X900H as an upgrade for a tv in an undersized living area. Unfortunately those sold out, so I started looking at this unit. Although it cost a fair bit more, the Black Friday deal was an insane savings, and everyone in the house is thrilled with the end result. Unit is still fairly new -- have had it five days now but have watched it a fair bit. Mounted with Sony's recommended mount. Mounting process was painless (particularly compared to others I've used in the past), and this thing looks great on it. Installation in brick wall enclosure took about an hour; including drilling, unboxing, etc. Definitely a two person job. I'll try to come back and update; especially if there are any issues. For now, this upgrade is one of the few tech splurges where I am not experiencing a bit of buyer's remorse. PROS: + The picture. Just beautiful. This was my first 4K TV, so the upgrade is substantial -- but it's still amazing. Smooth motion, deep blacks. Exactly what I expected when I went with an OLED + 120Hz. + Better sound than expected. Although I have a sound bar attached via optical, I ran the unit by itself on just its speakers and was pleasantly surprised. They've come a long way with onbaord sound. + Intuitive system and controls. I love that it's smart enough to tell when I turn an input device on and then switch over automatically. + I can't get enough of how thin this thing is. Very sharp and sleek. CONS: - The unit is in a room with high ambient lighting. It's not nearly as big a deal as it was with previous LCD panels, but you can notice a glare. Non-issue when we are typically watching TV: Evenings, night time ... and really more a nitpick during the daytime.

||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great TV with a beautiful picture. The OS was fine but I ended up getting an Apple 4k TV, much easier interface and no annoying ads and the remote is about 80% of the sony remote. Picture quality is stunning; especially dark scenes. This thing runs so beautifully with no stutters. Do not typically use the speakers but they sound fine. Honestly any OLED tv will provide a gorgeous picture; I chose this one because of cost.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Beautiful picture. Very dark darks and sharp contrasts. As expected for an OLED from Sony at this price. Smart TV features, especially onboard apps, abound. Sound is pretty good, but it's easy to connect to an external sound system (eg for my 7.1 theatre surround). Easy installation. Very easy set-up with the app on your phone and the onscreen wizard. So far, no issues & no problems. We're very pleased with our purchase.

Motion and Color are top notch
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far its been a great tv. Motion on this thing is amazing. Very smooth without soap opera effect or dimming of the screen. Coming from a mid level Sony I didn't think there would be a huge difference but there really is on fast moving objects and sports. Color accuracy has been great, much more natural than LED tvs. No more blooming, dark corners, or edge color issues LEDs can have. If you can catch it on sale its hands down one of the best TVs you can buy. Apps on the tv work well and load very fast. No need for a streaming stick anymore. A few things they could improve. 1. The legs. They have dual height position but they are not wide enough for my sound bar. I wish they had a center stand or feet at the end of the TV. Had to buy a VESA center stand separately. 2. Wish the remote had lights like the NVIDIA Shield remote. Keep hitting the wrong buttons when watching at night. 3. Cannot select wide mode when using apps on the TV. I worry about watching RedZone with the constant banner for 7 hours at a time. It would be nice if the zoom feature worked to cut that off when watching certain content from the apps. 4. Although it has no effect on the sound I wish the TV didn't display the sound increase when connected to a sound bar. Other than those minor things, I love it. Great value if you can catch it on sale.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I set the TV up with Custom settings and picture is excellent. Even standard Definition looks great. Color on this set is magnificent. Excellent detail with great upscaling makes SD look like real 4K. I am totally amazed at the overall quality of this set. Just to let others know, my previous set was an LG E7 55 inch that developed burn-in after 2 1/2 years. While that picture was very good, before burn in, the A8H surpasses the LG E7 in every way except sound. The E7 had a unique configuration for speakers that LG no longer does. Anyway, the sound from this set is good. The remote control contains pretty much all the features one could want from a remote. The overall build quality appears to be quite solidly built. I can't think of any negatives to write about. I have mine wall mounted and using HDMI ports 2-4. I left HDMI 1 open so if in the future I want to connect something there, it could easily be done from the side--which is where HDMI port 1 is located. Game mode for me is great. I'm not much of gamer, just MLBTS playing baseball. But, the picture in game mode on this set looks better to me than what I saw on the LG E7. Without a doubt, I would recommend this set to anyone looking for a beautiful picture and quality. The Sony A8H delivers that and more!

Absolutely Brilliant!!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am absolutely speechless about this tv. I don’t even know where to begin. I had initially purchased the Samsung qled 90t and though it was a great tv there were some things that were lacking and that I didn’t really like. After viewing around the market and the big hype and praising this Sony X1 4k OLED was bringing I had to give it a try. It’s been a few days since I’ve had it and I can’t stop watching tv, all the great features and smart hub options to voice control and even Apple TV2 integrated built in make this a must win. I was about to purchase the Apple TV separately but after finding out this tv came with Apple TV integrated I was sold. The tv is super crisp and the true black colors make this TV a must win amongst the rest. I was lucky I bought this tv when it was on sale $500 off, 4 days after purchasing it, it surprisingly went back up to it original price so I was lucky but I will have no problem paying retail price for this. For an extra $400 you have the option to get extended geek squad warranty for the next 5 years, for a rich and expensive investment like this one it’s definitely worth the warranty because you never know what might happen later on. Don’t hesitate to buy this tv now!

I no longer need a blu ray player or a fire stick to watch all of the different apps that are available. The 4K is a great picture for whatever movies are in 4K, just wish there were more available.
I would recommend this to a friendBrand response from SonyListens
