Panel failed after 14 months and cannot be fixed

So, after enjoying the TV for a little bit over a year, the TV suddenly stopped working. I tried all the resets possible and all I get is 5 blinking red light. I immediately contacted Sony support who tells me that unfortunately, there is only a one year warranty on the unit and then provided me with the contact information of some authorized repair centers in my area. I called some places to get a quote or to get some guidance on how to fix the TV but the standard response I received was to bring the TV in for them to troubleshoot. It didn't seem like they really wanted to help me troubleshoot the issue which I understand as they would rather fix it and make money. Given that the TV was out of warranty, I decided to open it up. There are 3 main components inside beside the expensive panel: the TCON board, the main board and then the power board. I was able to find the Sony repair manual for the TV which stated that the 5 blinking lights would most likely be for this unit, a bad TCON board but could also be a bad panel and less likley a bad main board or power board. I first replaced the TCON board but that did not fix the issue. Next I replaced the main board, no luck there either, and then I replaced the power board which did not fix it. Unfortunately for me , it appears that the panel is defective. I called many places to inquire about the panel, including some authorized Sony repair center and they all told me that Sony does not sell the panel and even if they did, it would be almost as expensive as a new TV and recommended that I get a new TV at this point. So long story short, this TV which has a retail value of $2000+ lasted only 14 months. Sony would not do anything about it and it is not repairable. If you decide to get this TV, I highly recommend getting some kind of extended warranty so you don't end up like me. I have been a Sony fan for decades but this is probably the last Sony item I will ever get. The products might still be great but the customer service is terrible. Once the unit is out of warranty, Sony will not work with you unlike other companies I dealt with in the past. The TV is gorgeous, the picture is stunning when it worked but a high end TV like this A80J should not stop working after 14 months. I understand that there are defective units every now and then but Sony should work with the consumers to get it resolved and not just tell us that there is nothing they can do as the unit is out of warranty. Original review - I currently have a 2020 Sony 65’’ LED that I purchased last year for the living room. It is not the best one but I needed a TV with a good viewing angle because we have an open space living room and often watch tv while eating on the dinner table located on the other of the room. We initially wanted to upgrade to an LG OLED but after learning that Sony is actually getting the OLED panels from LG and enhancing the TV by including their technology, we decided to upgrade our LED TV to this Sony A80J OLED because we get the best from both companies in one TV. Well, we were not disappointed at all and are so glad we made the upgrade. Our LED TV was thin but this one is much thinner but surprisingly, it is almost as heavy as our old 65 LED TV, just lighter by a few pounds. I am never a huge fan of the stock TV legs so I installed a solid Sanus TV base instead that strongly holds the TV preventing any accidents. Not only does this new TV have great viewing angle like our previous one but the picture quality of this Sony OLED is stunning. The blacks are perfect and it is a jaw dropping experience watching an action movie on this new television. Another huge upgrade is the sound quality coming out of this TV. Everything is night and day compared to our Sony LED. We still have the TV hooked up to a 7.1 receiver but the sound coming out from the TV is far superior from our center speaker so we decided to use the add the TV speakers to the surround sound system. As for the interface and applications, we were already familiar with it as it is identical to our previous Sony TV. Connecting the TV to the internet and to our google system was also a breeze. All in all, this is hands down the best television I have ever owned and it goes without say that it is getting a perfect 5 stars rating from me.

Best tv i have ever bought

Picture Good but Many Problems

Bluetooth does not work (I bought three of these TV's for a new house and none of them work). While using a soundbar; you cannot turn the TV speakers off. The operating system is painfully slow. Verbal search works on one TV, doesn't work on another, and I have not tried it on the third. There isn't an embedded internet browser; you can however get one from the play store. Best thing to do is use a Firestick; but then why buy a smart TV?

Sound will output from both the TV speakers and an audio device if you are using the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT port. If you connect the device to the TV headphone jack, the HDMI ports, or through Bluetooth, the TV can't output sound from both the TV speakers and the audio device at the same time.

No Go For ME

For 1 it lacks HDMI 2.1 features like VRR/ALLM an more with empty promises yet again made by Sony. But since it was going in my bedroom and my Xbox series X and PS4 Pro are hooked up to the fabulous C1 I wasn't worried about it. The TV look good no doubt but the motion on this TV was absolute Doody at the time before the price dropped it just wasn't worth the money hence why Sony quickly dropped the prices on their TVs because honestly none of Sony's TVs were worth the money they were charging. Also I'll be honest I absolutely hate the Android OS it's not fluent it's actually more complicated while also making me sign into things that I don't want to sign into on my TV so all in all I just ended up not liking this TV and took it back for a 48 inch C1 which was actually better for the bedroom and also now gives me a secondary TV if I want to play games as well as movies. Though the C1 is not perfect I find it is overall better than anything Sony has. So Sony TVs are a no-go for me

Random HDMI Switching

We're glad that you like the picture quality of the TV. We also understand where you are coming from regarding the switching of HDMI inputs. The TV may switch to the last input used for an external device connected via HDMI cable such as a game console (PS3 or PS4), High-definition cable box or satellite receiver, A/V receiver, Blu-ray Disc player, media player, or a home theater system. The BRAVIA Sync function of the TV sets priority to the device connected to the ARC (Audio Return Channel) input of the TV. If third party device (that is not compatible with the BRAVIA Sync feature) is connected, the TV may switch to the input used by the BRAVIA Sync compatible device. To fix this issue, make sure to set the BRAVIA Sync control setting on the TV to Off.
-Press the (Quick Settings) button on the remote control, then select [Settings] — [Channels & Inputs] — [External inputs] — [BRAVIA Sync settings] — [BRAVIA Sync control].
