Stunning Picture Quality with One Important Caveat

I’ve had my Sony A80L OLED for a little over a yeamonths now, and overall, I’m incredibly impressed. The picture quality is absolutely stunning—deep, inky blacks, vibrant colors, and crisp details that make everything from movies to sports look lifelike. Dolby Vision content in particular is jaw-dropping, and the motion handling is some of the best I’ve seen. The Google TV interface is smooth and responsive, and having access to all the major streaming apps out of the box is super convenient. Sound quality is surprisingly good for a flat-screen TV, thanks to Sony’s Acoustic Surface Audio+, but I still paired it with a soundbar for that extra punch. Gaming on this TV is also a treat. With HDMI 2.1 ports, 120Hz refresh rate, and VRR support, it pairs beautifully with my PlayStation 5. The input lag is minimal and the visuals are buttery smooth. Now for the one downside: I’ve started to notice some very faint image retention after leaving static content on the screen for extended periods. It’s not terrible, and Sony includes settings to help prevent it, but burn-in is still a risk with OLED panels if you’re not careful. All in all, this is an exceptional TV for movie lovers, gamers, and anyone who values top-tier picture quality. Just be mindful of leaving static images on for too long.

Picture Awesome! Audio is a problem!

We’ve had our Sony 65 A80 since 12-22 and absolutely love everything about the picture so far. The upgrading of old HD TV and movies look absolutely great. Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, IMAX Enhanced are great for watching shows that have the ability for viewing. The processer and software are fantastic for adjusting color, etc. Settings are also pretty simple to navigate. My main reason the 4 Stars is my disappointment with the sound or lack of. One of the reasons I was interested in the A80 was the Surface Audio Touch+ that was designed to enhance the audio experience and quality. It was a big deal to me. I have a Bose home theater system that includes a soundbar, wireless bass module, and wireless rear surround speakers. I specifically asked if my system would sync with the Sony Surface Audio Touch+ to make the sound better. I was told it would and it did. I used HDMI 1 to attach my Apple tv and the e Arc to connect my Bose system. I got the Bose sound system to work with the TV but when I went into the audio settings I lost the ability to adjust them for better performance. A number of the audio settings were not available for adjusting. Very Frustrating. When I reached out to check on what the problem might be I was then told that the audio settings will only sync with specific Sony soundbar devices. That’s extremely frustrating. My $2,000 Bose audio system is worthless with the A80 and the Surface Audio Touch+. I just don’t think it’s right how that works. Something that needs to be addressed at purchase with the potential buyer. Your talking about roughly $2,000 for a sound system that can work with the A80. Again, on the picture side I have no problem or regrets with the A80. But, the audio is another issue.I would highly recommend if the picture is important to you and the audio isn’t

It’s a great tv after a couple weeks of owning it new out of the box it has froze on me completely a couple times nothing except completely unplugging it works not sure what is causing it to do so but for the cost and how new it is I don’t think it should be having issues at all

Great product. I "screen" many different films, especially during awards season. I made my choice over LG strictly due to my familiarity with Sony color science; trickle down tech from their broadcast and camera divisions. Recently saw a major release on digital IMAX, then less than a week later saw it at home on this set, Very true to the theatrical presentation. Only downside is in Cinema mode, some dark scenes may present as a bit darker than I believe intended by the colorist, even with brightness at its highest setting. Continuing to experiment w/settings, there is a lot of adjustability. Brightness not an issue on other presets. Overall, a superb image at a great price point, Caution, all OLED screens are subject to burn in, Folks who keep news programs on all day with branding bugs in the corner need to be mindful. whatever the brand.

Overall I really liked this TV. The Geek Squad folks noticed a defect in the screen upon delivering it. The screen had small bubbles in the surface. These could only be seen when the TV was off. My local Best swapped it out with no charge. They had never seen this problem before. Once the second TV was installed I noticed that it was a bit small for my space. I got the 77" of the same model and have been highly satisfied with it.

This tv gives a nice picture and the sound is good without additional speakers but at times the scene is dark in parts. I am not sure that this tv was worth the high price as our other tv that is not oled also gives a nice picture, though granted not as impressive, and was a lot less expensive. We do like Sony though. The Sony tv we replaced with this tv lasted many years with no issues, so we do recommend this brand and if you don't have any issue with the price, this tv is a good one.

TV picture is awesome. Sharp detail, lots of apps included. My only complaint is that for a $2000 tv, the remote control is a joke. It’s not back lit, does not have any number keys- you have to press a menu button to access an on screen number pad that is awkward and clumsy to use. And the remote is so small and narrow . I wound up buying another Sony remote from Amazon.

Great picture color and clarity especially in streaming mode, not as sharp when using a cable box. For color and sound, audio/visual adjustments can be made to suit just about any setting desired. Not a fan of the remote control - not intuitively useful, missing features such as fast forward, switching back and forth between channels etc.

Love the pictures on this TV and hope people spend sometime getting pictures settings online to unleash the picture quality of this TV. The only downsize is the TV is very expensive and lack hardware so I removed one star. Sound quality of the TV is amazing but I bout a JBL 500 sound bar and it works great with the tv producing great sound

The picture quality is great. You can go very bright with their "Vivid color" menu selection, or tone it down to something more every day. Responds to voice commands. Lots of free TV channels available. There are a lot of preloaded apps. My complaint is that they make it nearly impossible to download competitive apps. It's even difficult just to find the Google Play Store , and when you try to use it it typically will direct you to one of the existing apps rather than simply let you download something . I suspect this is because Sony was paid by all these other apps that are on there and Google wants to track everything I'm doing for data collection. This is probably a problem with every TV, not just Sony.

This tv is a great buy for anyone that likes to tailor their viewing pleasure. Sound, picture are easy to program to your desired level. I was hoping the remote was illuminated but its not. Picture quality, refresh rate are excellent in HD. The only problem I have had with the tv is that it compresses the picture into a single pixeled left to the left of the screen. You have to restart the tv when this happens.
