I purchased this TV over Black Friday and the newest update completely messed up the audio when using a DVR. I've spent hours on the phone with Sony trying to get this resolved, and there is no fix. A lot of people have been having this same issue and Sony won't fix it. There is a VERY loud screech any time you change the channel or use your DVR. This is the last Sony I ever buy.

Screen went bad after two years

I had a choice of several different 65" sets. I choose Sony out of an old notion that Sonly was higher quality. Well, so much for Sony quality. After two years of modest use, the screen developed horizontal lines across the bottom third of the screen. This TV was mounted the day that I got it and never moved. Also had it plugged into a surge surpressor. I tried all of their reset procedures but none helped. It's out of warranty and Sony would do nothing. It's worthless. That's too much to spend for a TV with a two year lifespan.

Looking at MANY tvs for my selection I weighted the factors on value and size with highest performance. The 900e does not disappoint.! Not worries of burn in, HDR, good local dimming, nice response time for games...over all I could not be happier with this purchase, and it actually looks better then when it was in the store!. If you are upgrading to a 4k set up, dont forget the AV receiver needs 4k pass through also. The HDR content is noticeable but not as dramatic as i was thinking it would be. Tons of settings to fit your eye, because everyone is different. The IR blaster included is worthless however. Remote feels light and cheapish but works. It is a bit laggy with the menus and apps...a good 3 or more second delay.

    Annoying USB error pop-up

Purchased this TV less than 3 months ago. About 3 weeks ago started receiving a USB error. USB is using to much current please remove device. However this is no USB device plugged in and there never has been. After a Geek Squad visit and reset. It was determined that the TV needed a new board, this is a brand new TV and in my opinion Best Buy should be replacing the TV set instead of trying to fix it by swapping out with used parts in hopes that this solves the issue. Paid $350 for warranty and this is what I get. Very disappointed as this issue continues every single day for the past 3 weeks.

Awesome TV. Sony is Back Baby

Ok to make this Short I purchased the 850 Series. The Black Level was Terrible, and it had Flashlighting in the corners. I was replacing a FALD TV from 2013 a Sony XBR. So when I seen this unit and noticed it said it was a Full Array Local Dimming Set I purchased it sight unseen. Because I knew how well Sony can make a FALD TV set. I set it up and Bam was amazed. The Blacks are truely Black, Like OLED Black. My Dad was very impressed since it was for him anyway. We have been watching the Star Trek TOS on Netflix and the Colors Pop onscreen it is awesome. Highly Recomend this Set. It is Way Better than the 930 series Sony which is Onsale right now for a few hundred less than this one but the FALD sets cannot be beat they are the Cream of the Crop . Only Sony's Z9D series can Beat this set and it is $2500 more than this.

While this TV has a capable display, the software is terrible. Android TV is still version 8 instead of 10 Apps often crash WiFi in particular in 5G is unstable and does not work most of the time Ethernet connection is limited to 100 Mb/s Sound output to Sonos Playbar is unstable and requires permanent adjustments as soon as you change source or channel Picture quality is much lower using internal software than when using Amazon Fire TV cube as the source.

I was fortunate to find this on sale for $1499.95 and an additional $200 off the HT-NT5 for a great package. I, like many reading this review, was going for the LG OLED panel. I looked at the LG 65" OLED and have to admit, this was an awesome screen with great picture quality. However, at $1100 more, no way was it that much better than the 65X900E. As a matter of fact, side by side, I think you will notice very little difference. By the way, Samsung isn't even in the running at this quality level. I'm going to rate everything about this TV a 5 and won't expand on those as I just like everything about it. However, here are the areas, for me, that I would like to see improvement: *Power Supply - Proprietary cable and proprietary electrical cable going into the power supply brick. ( A VERY LARGE Power Supply Brick) *Android OS - I do prefer the WebOS from LG. *IR Eye - I wish was along the top bezel instead of the bottom center as the sound bar sometimes blocks the eye and requires me "aiming" the remote. As stated above, everything else is perfect. I HIGHLY recommend this product and with it's native 120HZ refresh rate, motion is smooth and quick with very little trailing.

I had to upgrade from my 60" plasma which was a great picture and good TV. However, plasma run hot and make your electric bill increase, so I wanted to go LED. Quickly and then an explanation. Picture: 95 out of 100 - You can't beat plasma, close with OLed, but still not there Sound: 85 out of 100 - Most TV's sound is not great anymore Features 100 out of 100 - Apps, ARC, Voice, Alexa & Google and tons more Look: 100 out of 100 - slim, trim with great stand Extras: 100 out of 100 - External power brick! If you ever need to replace it, just order one, no service call. Makes the TV much lighter too! IR blaster and more. Now the details. We bought a 65" Samsung first, then brought it back the next day. It was 60Hz but box was misleading saying 120 motion. Picture quality was not good, corners were grey or smokey and the picture was not bright, rather dull. Granted, it was only $750 on black Friday, but I should have known it was lesser set. Samsung makes good stuff, but not in their E series. Don't do it. We then looked at LG OLED's and the picture looks great! We nearly bought one, but our current LG lost all it's HDMI ports and LG is absolutely no help at all. We didn't want anything for free, just parts... no luck what so ever. Rather rude actually. So the sales guy explained that in the 900 series Sony has new tech driving the LED boards in the back so the corners are not grey or slow. 120Hz refresh and AWESOME picture quality in all lighting situations. We are blown away by the integrated features in this TV. By the way, integrated Netflix and other apps make your video and sound life much simpler when using an audio receiver for surround sound. While this TV cost us double what the Samsung E series TV cost, it seems very worth it so far. A+ from us!

    Top TV under $2,000

After years of waiting for 4K technology and HDR to get affordable, here is the answer = The 2017 Sony 900E series. The set-up is easy (check out the YouTube videos). It is compatible with most audio technology... I have an older Denon system that has ARC technology- check it out before buying a receiver. The upscaling with streaming TV like Playstation Vue and Netflix is stellar. The 4K is so clear... it takes a while to get the picture right with the settings. Once you get the picture right- WOW. Make sure to set up the TV in a room with little or no light- the screen does show glare from windows which affects the picture quality. Also, hit the "display" button on the remote to check the signal (1080p, 4K) to ensure your HDMI cables are correct. I purchased Cinnamon brand 4K/HDR cables with the Sony 4K player UBPX800 series... awesome picture and sound. The remote set up with other components is a simple process (Syncs with PS4, Denon audio system, Sony 4K player, etc.) The 10 Bit processor will be the standard tech in HDR for years to come so it will work with future TV signals.

    From Samsung to Sony!

I'm writing a review for this TV about 5 years later & for good reason...in short it's just AMAZING!!! When I was looking at buying a TV I wanted something that was somewhat budget friendly (around $1,500 or less), had great picture/4K/features, was from one of the big three (Sony, LG, or Samsung) since brands like TCL & Hisense hadn't made the jump in quality they have recently, and in the range of 60"-75". I then dwindled it down to an LG OLED or a Sony (I used to love Samsung but not too much anymore due to the blur & some 'unrealistic' color schemes IMO). When it came down to it I decided to go with this TV over the LG OLED as the latter was almost $2,500. Although the dark colors on my Sony will never be as dark as OLED...the picture quality, speed of the TV interface, and overall features make up for it. This is easily one of the best home theater purchases to date! This is still what I watch movies, sports games, and play my video games on.

I read many positive feedback and reviews about the Sony X900E, so when it was time for me to upgrade to a 4K TV this was the one I was going for. It took me a while to get it connected as I have multiple items to connect it to (AV, Cable, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 Pro, you catch my drift...) but when I did I went and tested with an oldie but a goodie of a movie. "Ghostbusters". I was highly impressed with the resolution and the clarity in color and contrast. and the motion was truly amazing to see in such an old movie, but I was even more impressed with the black levels this TV pushes, it really is something to see. Little that I know my PS4Pro was telling me to check the X900E's for settings where the TV can fully utilize the HDR features between the TV and the PS4Pro, so yea I was impressed and I had not even put the TV to its fullest potential. The screen size is just about the right size ( I was considering 75 but I went with 65 and im very glad I did because it nearly covers 2/3 of my wall right now. Ive yet to test this TV with a much more modern Movie and a Hi-Def Video Game to really see what it can do, but I can tell you that for the $1500 spent this is an amazing TV unit. Definitely check this one out if you're in the market for a 4K TV!!

Bought this in November 2017 instead of going with LG OLED. Been the best TV I've ever owned. 4K Blu-rays, gaming, live sports, streaming have never looked better. I use mine differently than most. This TV is just a giant "monitor" that is connected to an Onkyo AV receiver. The receiver has 5.1 Dolby Surround (not atmos, don't need it), several game consoles, and a TV Box. My Sony TV has never been connected to the internet because with the PS5 and Series X I don't need the smart features. No internet = no menu slow down or TV stutter ever. I do this with all of my TV purchases.

Great 65" TV for the pricepoint

    Posted .

I bought this TV several weeks ago, and waited to write a review so I could be sure how I liked it. Overall, this is an excellent TV for the price. The picture quality is terrific; colors are sharp; and the refresh rate is crisp (I did turn off the "soap opera effect" picture smoothing, as I'm never a fan of that feature on any TV). Sports games, like the Hawks or the Cubs, look great. I didn't have any issues with watching the set from different angles, which I know some people online had complained about. As for the cons (which are minor), the remote is awful. The buttons are small, shallow, and jammed too close together. I'd read about this before I bought the TV from other purchasers, and it's true. Shouldn't be a deal killer: just use your Xfinity remote or buy a Harmony or other universal remote and you'll be fine. As other reviews state, the sound quality is mediocre. You should plan on buying a sound bar or hooking the TV up to some other kind of external sound system. My only other complaint is that the streaming for Netflix seems slower and choppier going through the TV itself, versus when I route it through my Apple TV. I'm not sure how heavy a processor the TV has, or if maybe its wireless just isn't very fast. So I'd definitely still recommend using an Apple TV, Roku or other third party device for your streaming services. That said, I'm happy with my purchase, and would definitely recommend this product.
