Best TV I have ever owned
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did not enter into the decision to purchase this television lightly. I did my homework - read several reviews, analyst reports, watched videos, checked out calibration techniques, and read up on industry trend reports. Finally, it became clear that for $2,000, this is the best TV in the market. And in fact, if you stack it up against the 930e and even the high end Z series, you would be hard pressed to tell them apart. My advice: if you buy this tv (and you should) take time to learn how it works and how to properly calibrate it to get the best performance out of it. the 4K UHD is quite simply a modern technological marvel. The colors pop, the black are truly black, and the clarity and brightness/contrast levels are unsurpassed. I've seen many talk about the soap opera effect - you can turn this off quite easily, and even adjust how "smooth" you want the picture. But for anyone looking for the best 4K/UHD/HDR television, this is the model to buy for 2017.

Amazing TV in multiple ways.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this 4 years ago when Android TV was new. Picture quality is incredible. Packed with features my family uses everyday. ARC to control my stereo setup with a single remote. Beautiful HDR picture. Android system allows side loading of all sorts of apps. Friend of mine was going over why he loved his Nvidia Shield and I laughed because this TV does everything he was describing just by itself (streaming, Steam Link, sideloaded Android Apps, Apple Air Play, Google Cast, Spotify, list goes on), and I bought this 4 years ago. Now using it for the PS5 and it works as good as the day I first turned it on. An absolute masterpiece of a TV technology.

Good, Bad AND Ugly!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good: Great picture for the price! Bad: 1. Yes, the remote is not for the faint of heart. 2. The sensor for the remote is so low that my current Polk soundbar is too tall (2 3/4"). Measuring the height need = 2 3/8". REALLY? 3. WHERE is the manual??? UGLY: Android TV is horrible. Downloaded Kodi and it only worked for 4 days. Now, ALL downloading is trash. I CANNOT get any apps to download with the message "Install pending". Android TV - what a fine work of art . . . ;^) Look, it's a great TV for the price ($1799 at the time of this review) for the money. However: - KNOW that there is NO manual on how to use the TV or Android TV. - KNOW and study up on Android TV so you don't get so darn frustrated. - KNOW that Android TV has a LOT of problems that they haven't fixed yet. - KNOW that settings (color, sound, etc) for the TV and the apps are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Don't ASSUME that if you make a change in a setting that it will translate to both TV viewing and app viewing (e.g. Netflix). - If you get the TV, EXPERIMENT with ALL of the settings. There are so MANY of them, any one of them can make a significant difference in how you view shows. Good luck, good hunting . . .

Perfect blend of power and beauty
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV is amazing. Of course. The only thing I can say that isn't perfect about this TV doesn't even have to do with the TV itself. It has to do with my setup. I have a soundbar that I place in front of the TV, and the height of the soundbar is enough so that the signal from the remote is blocked from the detector on the TV. My simple fix to raise the TV a little bit was just to use two of my old high school yearbooks side by side underneath the base of the TV to raise it about 2 inches. After doing this, as you can see in the picture, the detector on the front of the TV is the perfect height. As I said this isn't anything wrong with the TV itself because I think anyone who isn't using a soundbar in the exact setup I am, would think the TV stand to be too tall if it were out of the box as tall as I have it now. I don't have much to say about the picture that hasn't already been said....it's as amazing as you're going to get short of buying an OLED. Coming from a 55" 2013 model LG 1080p non-smart TV, to a 65" 4k Sony is just incredible. The improvement is as much as when I first went from a 32" 720p to a 55" 1080p, if not more so. I can't say enough about it. The up-scaling is wonderful, regular format DVD's, regular cable TV through Xfinity, Blu-Ray DVD's - all incredibly crisp and clear . Just make sure you are connecting all your external devices(cable box, dvd player, video game console, etc...) through 4k compatible HDMI cables. The sound I can't really comment on, I think I've only heard about 25 seconds of it and that's only because I didn't know my soundbar was turned off. I didn't buy the TV for the sound, and in my opinion, if you are stepping up to a 4k TV, you should probably be stepping up your sound experience anyway. I like the remote, easy to use buttons. The guide is brings up for my Xfinity is in a little different format/a little clunky to use, so I continue to use my Xfinity remote for cable TV, and the Sony remote for everything else. The overall frame of the TV is beautiful, the stand it comes with is awesome as it allows me to hide the cords coming from the back of the TV. Just needed to give it a little boost as I mentioned earlier when staging my soundbar in front. Buy the TV if you can, can't beat the price Best Buy is letting it go for right now. I got it for $1,499.00.

Amazing TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm so glad I chose this TV. I REALLY did not need a new TV. I have a 7 year old 55" LG that I bought from BestBuy... Still running great...but . I could not resist and no regrets. The color is amazing, I even bought a new Xbox One X to take advantage of 4k. Cant wait to try out this TV with new Xbox, Forza 7 and Logitech G920 wheel.. I'm 51 and will never grow up :)

One of the best 2017 overall TVs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the XBR65X900E for 1500$ before tax. Overall this TV is one of the best TVs for the price in 2017. I would suggest reading the rtings.com review of the TV to learn every detail. The picture is incredible. Some quick info, TV supports full array local dimming, HDR10, and has great input lag which will please gamers. It upscales 1080p content probably as good as any TV out there, which at this time is invaluable. Some negatives are that it did not upgrade to allow Dolby Vision like its next model up 930 or the 2018 version of the TV. I also have had some struggles calibrating HDR content for games on my Xbox One X. Also not a huge fan of the android smart TV stuff, but use my Xbox for everything anyway. Overall, this is an amazing TV that will still get mentions in 2018.

Excellent value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV is replacing my 2005 Phillips ambilight 50 inch plasma.I purchased the 55 inch model. It took a few days to get used to the differences but overall I am very happy with the PQ and all the features. I am most impressed with the 4K upscaling. When I watch Breaking Bad on 1080i Xfinity cable the PQ is excellent. Sometimes you can't tell the difference when watching it on Netflix 4K. Google chromecast works seamlessly as does the voice control. The 7.0 FW update has fixed any previous issues All the apps respond very quickly. I like the TV button which brings you back from wherever you are in the apps to cable tv. There is also a football mode which is nice. I watch a lot of sport and am satisfied with the PQ. The TV also has excellent black levels and motion enhancements.

Amazing Picture
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a great picture! We cannot believe the clarity of this TV and we are only sorry we waited so long to get one. We also got the Sony Sound Bar with it and a Sony Blu-Ray Player. All were set up by the Geek Squad and it is one terrific system. I would recommend this set to anyone and I would certainly recommend the Geek Squad.

Superb TV-Amazing!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went in to buy the Sony 55xbr850D but got this as an open-box for 1450 with a discount matched from a TV sales website. So glad I did! this is the favor of God! Bold rich color! Picture is incredible! Everybody talks about the blacks but the white is so vivid and with every color adds depth to display the picture very clear! Very easy set-up after salesman walked me through it. It was originally set under Best Buy display. The size is extremely nice to display all your needs.

Good value for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the 65" 900e (2017 model) at the close-out pricing about two weeks ago which to me made it a good value for my money. The picture is definitely the strong point of this TV, as long as you are sitting no more than 20 degrees or so off to either side of the center of the screen. The quality of the picture starts to go down hill from there. Very bright screen, works well in rooms where there is a lot of light. The Android operating system leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion (too busy), but I feel the same way about my Amazon Fire TV stick also. I'd prefer a more simplistic interface that is user-configurable, like what Roku offers on their streaming devices. Nevertheless, it gets the job done. It's a good looking TV with a stylish stand that makes it easy to sit on narrow flat surfaces. The sound from the TV's speakers is passable for basic TV watching in a quieter environment. A sound bar or home entertainment system will add greatly to the viewing experience. Sony generally makes good stuff. I hope this TV holds up as well as the other Sony TV's I have purchased in the past.

Best for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After purchasing the 930E I noticed the 900E had better blacks and almost half of the cost. This is a great tv for the money. I don't reret returning the 930E. Had two samsung in the past 10 years both are dead but my 40 inch sony bravia still works. Sony is built to last. With this new 900E you won't be disappointed.

Why all the raves? PQ stinks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had purchased a Samsung UN65MU9000 65" tv. The picture quality was awesome, but there were a lot of bugs with the remote. I kept reading about how amazing the 900E was so instead of exchanging the MU9000 I got the 900E. Big mistake. Setup was a nightmare, it couldn't connect to my wifi, and I couldn't do anything for an hour because the remote would not communicate. Turned out the brand new batteries that came with the tv were DEAD!! After putting in new batteries I finally got through setup (except for the wifi connection) and when live tv finally came on I was stunned, in a bad way. Terrible out of box picture. I spent hours trying the different picture profiles and tweaking. I finally got a decent image but not on broadcast tv. I had read this thing blew the Samsung out of the water as far as 4K upconversion, but it is nowhere as good as the Samsung. Picture is not as bright, blacks not as black, just an overall terrible experience. Instead of returning the Samsung tomorrow, I'll be returning the Sony.

Very good 4k tv
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Folks,I'm going to be "brutally honest here" with this review. I'm comparing the Sony xbr65x900e to the LG Oled 65b7a. My heart was dead set on the Sony until the sales consultant showed me an excellent comparison test;which he "technically" wasn't supposed to do according to store guidelines. What he did was to get an accurate picture comparison as possible he put the Sony demo on the LG as well which depicted night scenes of Vegas with it's vibrant neon lights and colors. Also, there was a great demo of night amidst super vibrant colors, and accurate, of Tokyo. And finally a city scope of Brussels and it's many architectural splendor and "the LG bested the Sony in every conceivable demonstration! Of course the blacks were superiorly black but the reds on the oled was more vibrant also. Astonishing display for under $3,000 and may go even lower as we approach the holidays! That's my take on the comparison..

Ready good tv
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony is back to claim the throne for being the king of tvs. This tv produces deep blacks and the contrast and clarity is incredible. I'm no professional tv critic, but I can honestly said this is a good tv for viewing anything , sports, animations, gaming etc. Go out any purchase this gem, you will not be disappointed.

TV died in 3 weeks. Sony service is AWFUL.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Three weeks after taking delivery of my brand new Sony 65" TV, it died. I called Best Buy, who informed me that because I had not purchased their in-house extended warranty, they would have nothing to do with the service. I've only had the TV three weeks, and Best Buy did not even offer to provide the Sony phone number. So I tried to resolve the issue following the online trouble-shooting tips on Sony website, but had to call the Sony online support number. Their first-tier customer support walked me through the same script of actions as the online troubleshooter, then told me I needed to call another phone number. Of course, it was now after hours, and the recording provided yet-another number. The tech asked a few more questions and had me try a few more procedures. Eventually he dispatched a service ticket, and explained that once the part arrived, I'd be contacted. Four days later, I received an email claiming that a service tech had been trying to reach me (I had no missed calls or messages). I called the service provider (Worldwide TechServices), who were able to get the tech re-routed to me the next day. So, on Day 7, the tech arrives, replaces the part, and it changes nothing. Sony only provided one part, and it was the wrong part. The tech maks some calls, they determine that the TV must now be exchanged, and put me on the line with Sony. I have to give them credit card information as a security deposit, and provide them with proof of purchase so that they can begin the process. I do this right away. On Day 8, I am contacted my Sony Customer Relations, who explain that the delivery will require 5-7 business days. I insist that they put me in touch with someone who can expedite. Not only did the agent fail to put me in touch with a next-level manager, she did not place the order for the replacement, something that required several more contacts to learn. So it's Day 13 with a broken TV, and I'm still 5-7 business days from a replacement. Lessons learned: (1) there is no reason to pay extra to deal with a local store, and (2) NEVER BUY SONY.
