Best TV I've ever had!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a lot of research, I went to Best Buy and purchased the Sony A8F OLED TV. I have been completely satisfied with this TV. The black levels and side viewing angles are better than any LCD can currently produce. Also, the detail and crispness is second to none. My last set was the Sony 900E, so I am comparing to a very good set. Sony's processing is superior to LG and that is why I chose this set over LG. The calibration is quite good right out of the box with very little tweaking necessary. As far as Burn in, that has not been an issue for me. That being said, I am very careful about not leaving static images on the screen. My only criticism would be the price, but that really is not just a criticism of Sony, but of LG since they make the panels. I would highly recommend this tv to anyone who is considering purchasing it.

Stunning from every angle. SONY is an Experience.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have never owned a SONY TV as they were simply out of reach for the everyday consumer when it comes to price. This isn't a knock on SONY, it's just a reality of the market. SONY takes the APPLE approach and is not always worried about being the first, but rather about being the best at what they do. LG is the maker of the OLED panel in all of SONY's OLED line up, so you would figure that LG would have the upper leg in this market (this isn't the case). While LG is a very fine competitor and rivals the cost, SONY has engineered the processing power and Picture modes to make the User Experience the very best when viewing Movies, Sporting Events, and Gaming. Because of this processing power and attention to detail, the outcome is beautifully processed 4K content with HDR and Adolby Vision. I'm not a fan of the Android platform as I am more geared to Apple, but with software updates they continually get better as time moves forward. Many have been concerned about the brightness levels with the A8F and even the A9F. Sony doesn't appear to be bothered by this, and I'm not either. When using their picture adjustments I can see the leveling details for each picture mode. Pushing the over all light and Ambient light to the levels in which LG has seem to wash out a bit and the over all blending of the picture is lost. While some find the over saturation visually appealing, (I do at times as well) it's not a accurate color template for the picture displayed and accuracy is what it's all about. Getting the panel to produce the true to life color is always the battle, and although OLED screens do this better than any other, not all processors are created equal for this task. Sony's X1 Extreme processor and X1 Extreme Ultimate processor are a cut above. The cost of this television is not all due to the name on the box, (but yes, some of it is). One of the main reasons I can see is that they are paying royalties to LG for the production of the panel, so, naturally SONY has to up-sale their sets to off set this cost. SONY isn't always about BANG for your buck, but like all things at the top, they rarely ever are. The A8F is the middle ground that still sits nicely at the top for it's processor and price point. While their may be other options for OLED, you won't regret the purchase of this SONY if you have the means to do so. Like Ferris Buller said. . . (It is so choice, if you have the means, I highly suggest you pick one up). Start enjoying TV and Movies they way they were meant to be watched. (Game of Thrones is coming up April 14th, 2019, do yourself a favor and watch it on this stunning TV).

Perfection
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV is beautiful. I own the Samsung 65" Q9 and this blows it out of the water! This TV has perfect black levels and exact coloring right out of the box. When I showed a friend, he thought I got a smaller TV since the movie was in letter box. He couldn't see where the TV ended! I would recommend this to anyone who wants the best TV for the money (A9F is more expensive). Has better motion and coloring than Samsung and better upscaling than LG. I mainly use an Oppo 4k player on this along with built in streaming.

Pretty good—maybe not worth the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the 65” A8F on Black Friday and spent $3500 with tax. I had a 52” Samsung LCD about 10 yrs. old. I had been looking and researching for quite a while and based on reviews and the Best Buy sales staff, ended up with this OLED. The bottom line is that it has a very good picture, but the settings seems to keep changing and it’s sometimes bright enough, but sometimes much darker than it should be. Right out of the box it looked HORRIBLE—dark blurry and just awful. I got online and searched for how to adjust settings. A site called RTINGS, which is what a couple of BB employees say they use, gave me suggestions that ended up with a pretty good picture. I set the brightness to max, got rid of the “motion”—soap opera effect that I hate. I am not an expert like the people who write reviews for CNET or other sites and to me, my Samsung sitting side by side still looked pretty good, just smaller. After fiddling with the settings and watching a lot of different stuff from different sources—cable, Netflix, Hulu, etc., the Sony does seem to have a better picture, but sometimes not as bright and the colors seem dim. For example, when there’s a bright, sunny outdoor scene, the Samsung looks like it looks when you’re outside on a sunny day, where the Sony looks like you’re wearing VERY dark sunglasses—darker and kind of grayed out. Again, all the brightness settings are high and power saving off. Also, I noticed like other reviews I saw that it seems to reset the settings for each input or if you unplug a device and replug it. I kept finding myself not liking the picture and going in to change brightness after I’d set it how I like it. Some times the Motion effect would be on after changing it to off, and sometimes it looks like the “soap opera effect” even though it says Motion is off. One thing about my Samsung is that I got the picture how I liked it and never had to fool with it again. I did make sure to take it out of “store” or “demo” mode, so the settings shouldn’t be changing. After talking to BB people, I got a 4K AppleTv and noticed differences there too. When my standard ATV is used, the main screen is perfect black and the icons are normal colored—bright green Hulu, RED Netflix, PURPLE iTunes, etc. But when 4K Appletv is source, the screen is greyish and the icons look like if those other icons were bright new shirts and the 4K ones are those same shirts after 300 washings—very faded. I prefer vibrant colors. Called Apple and the guy I got couldn’t help me at all—I’ve read other people’s questions saying their 4K was dark too—especially if using Dolby Vision, which gave an awesome picture, just darker than I think it should be. The remote seems pretty decent during the day, but I hate it at night. THere are no glowing buttons, no lit up buttons and the buttons don’t feel distinct enough for me to know what’s what in the dark. Very annoying to use at night. **************************************** **************************************** READ THIS PART*************** On picture alone, I guess you can say what the BB people told me—it’s a matter of preference. Sony (OLED’s) in general may be darker than some people like, while Samsung is brighter and more colorful. They say those Samsung colors aren’t as realistic, but to me they seem to be. Where Sony lost me is when I tried to call tech support. I hit the Contact Us tab on their website and it leads you through a loop where you select product, hit support and go back to the help page. I NEVER actually saw a phone number offered. Lots of companies seem to hide their phone numbers, and Sony seems to be one of those. If there’s a number there, I couldn’t find it. So I googled it and called, getting an automated menu of course. It was actually pretty quick and easy to get a person in a minute or two. Unfortunately, AND THIS IS A MAJOR DEALBREAKER, I called about 20 times and every time I got an outsourced call center in India or South America, where they speak English, but not in a way Americans do, so while they understand you, they talk in a completely unnatural way and it takes about 5 minutes to say, what would take less than 1 for two American English speakers. I don’t need all the repetition of what I just said and assurances that you understand my problem and are going to help—just help me! Even worse is that they don’t actually seem to know anything more than I do about the products—just typing in the problem and reading the exact same answers that I would get on my own through their help page. You’d probably be better off on a user community page or asking someone at Best Buy. Their support/Customer Service is AWFUL!!!!!!! And every time I got frustrated, I asked if there’s a way to get someone in the US and was told no. It’s a shame companies like Sony don’t let everyone talk to someone from their own country if they wish and don’t hire or train people to be product experts—they just read the same stuff you have access to. I feel that if BB or Apple can’t help me figure this out, I will soon be returning this and probably getting a Samsung OLED when the prices drop. This seems very overpriced when I can get something else for around half the price and probably not notice much difference. I hit “no” on the would I recommend because of the price, the terrible customer service and because the darkness color issue werent’ resolved by Sony. But in all fairness it is a very good picture and if you don’t mind the dimness and less lively color, you’ll probably be fine with it. But don’t get sucked in to wanting the newest and “best” like I do when I shop—-unless you’re a video superfreak and notice the tiniest differences, you’ll probably be super happy with one for half this price.

Amazing Television
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture quality is great, 4K is outstanding, even full HD seems upscale and motion is handled well. I did some adjustments to my liking. The contrast between blacks and colours is amazing, eye popping almost. My viewing experience is enhanced coming from a 1080p LED TV, everything seems more like a theatrical experience, the viewing angles are good as well. The TV is rather heavy but I managed to wall mount it and it looks great. I mostly stream content and regardless of what I put, looks much better than my old TV. Bought an Xbox one x to pair and gaming has been taken to a whole new level, in gaming mode input lag seems minimal enough, 4K 60 fps seems lifelike. All my guest are impressed and awed. Best TV I owned in terms of picture, sound is good with decent bass, but I'm going to invest in a Sony sound bar. My main issue is probably Android TV, everything I have is Google or Android related, but Android TV seems behind compared to other OS's. It seems rather sluggish, over cumbersome, and not that intuitive. It is on nougat, however, and perhaps an update to Oreo could fix some issues.

4.5 So Far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently bought this TV to replace my LG C8 OLED 55 inch. I loved the LG but wanted a bigger TV to watch sports on and movies. In the store I felt the Sony was slightly better side by side. In fairness they were playing different videos. The LG was great but I found myself adjusting screen settings due to distorted blacks in some scenes and regardless of the setting used it was hard to get rid of. The SONY does not have that issue. I was initially questioning my purchase as I did feel it was possibly too dim. However, after upping only the gamma setting I find this TV to be excellent for viewing all content so far. Is there a big difference between the two? I don't think so but I decided to give it a go. I do not like the remote and Android is a complete mess. I run everything through my Apple TV 4K for the interface. If I did not have the interface I would strongly consider returning both TV and soundbar and going w LG OLED or Samsung QLED. I would like to get the A9F later this year for a second TV.

Excellent TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this one very early in April, at 3rd. And it doesn’t make me upset. The panel is clearer than A1E or the others, the picture quality is as great as A1E, although Sony said they use the same panel and tech of A1E, but I think the new A8F has better quality. I didn’t find any problem with the vertical banding because you can’t see any banding. I used to have some issues with A1E when watching action movie, some scenes in dark green color with high noise will show the vertical banding very clear. But I check again with the same scene in A8F, and the result made me happy without any banding appear on the tv. If you have no problem with android tv OS, then this TV beats all. If you still doesn’t like this OS, then you should compare with LG oled tv. Sony’s android tv is the weakest point of their tv. No one can’t beat Sony’s tv picture quality, but they still using suck OS tv. I think they should create their own software, Recommend 100% for gaming and movie.

Excellent tv but could be brighter
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a spectacular tv- the clarity is perfect and looks as if peope are standing right in front of you. We don't have 4K yet with Xfinity, but clarity is still excellent and when we get 4K in the next few years from Xfinity, it will be even better. The remote control is not as user friendly as I would like for a 62 year old woman, and it took a little playing around to get user to the buttons and what they all do. Now I've mastered them all. It feels like a very high tech computer. My only complaint is that it is not as bright as my husband and I would have liked. All the settings (Standard, Sports, etc) are too dark for our liking. I could be our preference or maybe our age. We resolved this by keeping it on the VIVID SETTING which is perfect. I heard darkness was a problem with the Sony. If you want a super bright tv, just know that you will need to keep it on Vivid. You won't be disappointed. Oh, and the sound is like a movie theater with a deep and rich base. An awesome televison.

This tv is amazing!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was hesitating between OLED or LED. I'm glad I decided with the OLED. This is hands-down the best picture quality I've ever witnessed on a tv. The colors, the blacks, the upscaling....everything is just on point. A big surprise for me was the sound quality. Best sound I've ever heard from a tv. There is absolutely no need for a soundbar. I personally like the android OS, with that i don't need a chromecast. This tv is just perfect!!!!

Great Picture Sometimes... But not all the time..
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I thought this OLED display was going to be really special. It has some of the best technology available on the market as of 2017-2018, but Sony has a lot of work to do before I invest in another one of their OLED TV's. The same goes for LG since they own the OLED technology and sell it to Sony. I first want to say Im thankful that Best Buy has a great return policy because I just returned the TV and saved $3,500. I loved the picture at first, but I returned it because of vertical banding, ABL issues, and the poor android 7.0 OS which was very slow, and often clunky to navigate. The new 8.0 software update is on the way, but I would rather buy a TV such as the A9F or the brand new A9G that was manufactured with the 8.0 OS. The vertical bands were visible in a lot of content, and not just 5-20% grey screen test. I reported issues to Best Buy, and Sony. As advised, I waited to break in the TV, and even after i put over 150hrs on it I can still see a vertical band from top to bottom on certain content. Personally I could not live with it, and I'm going to wait for a better display to hit the market. Before I buy another OLED display vertical banding has to be fixed, and playing the panel lottery is a complete JOKE. Im not going to waste my time trying find one that is just right.. What is this goldy locks, and the three bears? Shame on all the OLED engineers who allow this to continue, and pretend like its okay. Just good enough is not what they advertise, and is not what Sony is known for. Have some respect for the consumers who respect your brand. Once again THANK YOU to Best Buy for allowing me to return the TV. I no longer have to read forums and reviews trying justify my purchase.

Best TV I have ever used in my life
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This tv is incredible. Picture quality is top notch. Android Tv is a little sluggish but the fix that I discovered is to disable the background processes and limit it to 4, and it runs buttery smooth. Google "Sony Android TV Fix" and one of videos or links should show you how to do it. It really fixes the only issue the tv has.
