Sony ultimate engine improves this tv .

I just got this tv delivered yesterday . I noticed the areas where it improves are motion handling for fast action movies sports and video games I have the xbox one x the games run very smooth game mode is bright and punchy . the other good news is you do not have to download the dolby vision update it is built In which gives you 3 settings on how you like it. colors pop on it .the motion smoother did change now it is set for auto, or custom or off .I think auto uses Black Frame insertion although it does it right. I prefer auto I did not notice any artifacts with it on like my Samsung QF8N I had before . on this tv you have 4 HDMI ports that are full bandwidth at 60 HZ and HDMI 3 is e arc .the viewing is better to . now for some movies the black bars can get lighter during scenes when the HDR or Dolby vision is on I would think because of how bright the tv can get thais one thing I did notice in a dark room .although it is on the top and bottom the tv has excellent shadow detail without the crushing blacks that other TVS suffer from. The sound is average better to invest in a sound system . Overall I do recommend this tv for good overall use by the way even cable which runs at 1080I has a 3d effect like no other TVS I have seen.the ultimate engine seems to have improved a lot from the extreme .

    Great All-Around TV

This TV is replacing my LG C7 OLED which started having poor image retention & was on the brink of getting a burn-in. So I wanted to use my warranty before it got worse. Luckily, Geek-Squad agreed to replace my TV and instead of going back to OLED, I went with this Z9F. Best decision ever. I play a ton of games and watch a lot of sports. Now I don't have to babysit a TV anymore and can just simply enjoy content. The input lag for this is very responsive. I believe it's somewhere around 12-18ms as the Forbes review mentioned. HDR is super bright. Games like Rise of the Tomb Raider will blind you. There's some slight blooming but nothing that bothers me. The picture produces deep blacks (not as deep as OLED but still good). For the enthusiasist, don't think of this TV as a true successor to the Z9D which when released was a more expensive TV. Concessions were definitely made for this TV but to me, the trade-off's are worth it. The new chip and the Android Oreo makes using apps and going through the tv settings fast and snappy. The pics I'm attaching is from the opening scene of Mad Max in 4K. The other is a regular NFL broadcast from an off-angle which by the way is as good as advertised. Honestly, it's as good as my old OLED. If you want a solid all-around TV for gaming, sports, and occasional movie viewing, without the worry of burn-in, this TV is for you. Highly recommended!

Fantastic Television If You Win The Panel Lotterg

After touting uniformity as one of the selling points, I’ve had issues with two separate Sony Z9F units. Before I delve into my explanation, I’d like to note that the issues I’ve come across are fairly minor and may not bother most consumers shopping for a TV. That said, after a month in the wild, a number of issues have been reported on AVSForum and the like. The thing to keep in mind though is that we’re more likely to hear about complaints than praise, so, that does not inherently indicate Sony’s quality control overall is a problem. My experience, however, makes me wonder. After nearly a month, my first Z9F began to exhibit some strange lighting effects. There was a thin strip of light that hugged the rightmost edge of the screen, indicating that maybe the panel wasn’t completely sealed to the bezel as it should have been. After the TV was on a couple of hours, I began to notice the intensity of this light was exacerbated in a specific area, and it’d slowly slide up and down the edge as if the panel was flexing after having sufficiently warmed. With that, I scheduled a replacement. Thankfully, I was within my return my window so there was no hassle. The second Z9F arrived and all seemed well. There was still a very minor thin strip of light on the right hand side, but it wasn’t as wide as it was before and there had been no fluctuation after hours of use. However, I did notice a small bit of light leakage along the bottom of the screen, causing a v-shaped bit of light to shine on the front of the panel. The light leakage was small, but this clearly indicates panel separation and can get worse over time. I found another issue as well: clouding in very specific scenarios. While watching end credits sequences, I noticed that after a name faded out and the screen was completely black, I could see very, very minor clouding. Now, clouding is expected from LED/LCD televisions. It just means that each LED behind the screen isn’t uniform so you’ll see some variation in black uniformity in the form of ‘clouds’. But this behavior should remain constant from one black screen source to next, and that wasn’t what I was experiencing. The clouding zones changed between each credit… indicating a dimming algorithm issue. Watching a 4:3 aspect ratio film in 4K UHD, the only cloud I’d see was in the upper right hand corner of the screen… where a dimming zone shouldn’t have even been in use. On a black screen during The Dark Knight Rises credits, this minor blooming could be seen across nearly three-quarters of the screen. Some films didn’t exhibit any uniformity issues when a black screen was present during end credits sequences. This only happened with 4K UHD Blu-rays, mind you. I could play the same films via VUDU with Dolby Vision and not experience any variation/clouding in the same shots of total darkness. For some reason, 4K UHD Blu-ray is telling the Sony Z9F’s zones to behave improperly. I was able to replicate this on two different players, both through a receiver and plugged directly into the television, and I even tried different ports. I called Sony support to explain how odd the issue was. “It looks like clouding but it’s very specific to whatever the signal is relaying to the television, because I can see the clouding patterns change,” I’d tell them. But tier 1 support just looked up some script after hearing ‘clouding’ and said, ‘yep, clouding is normal due to the inherent nature of LED/LCD technology’. I said, “Look, you’re not understanding what I’m saying. Can we kick this up to the next tier of support?” I reached tier 2 and they also acted like they had earplugs in the moment I said ‘clouding’ and began to rattle the same ‘it’s normal’ explanation off. At this point, I made it clear that I wasn’t looking for an immediate resolution, but for Sony’s engineers to look into this issue and see why zones are lighting in varying patterns on pure black screen content during 4K UHD Blu-ray playback (pulling up black screen patterns from YouTube and like yielded perfect black level uniformity). But, they wouldn’t do it. I wrote the Sony support account on Twitter and explained my issue in detail and asked they submit it to engineering but someone from tier 2 called me and rattled off a script again. So, I have decided to not roll the dice on yet another Z9F. For $3500, these weird issues aren’t worth dealing with. The Z9F is a wonderful television, but apparently you are still very much playing the panel lottery and there are still uniformity issues… just in a different way. If you end up with a panel with no noticeable issues, you’ve got what I believe is the best in-production LED/LCD on the market. But me, I’m currently awaiting delivery of Sony’s mid-range television, the 900F. It provides similar picture quality for nearly half of the price. Paying the premium price for a Z9F should mean that quality control shouldn’t be as much of a concern, but Sony, in my eyes, have dropped the ball. If I’m going to play the panel lottery and deal with minor issues, I just figured I’ll do it for a fraction of the price. From my research, the 900F still gets bright enough for good HDR, but not nearly as bright as the Z9F. That’s fine, because I found the Z9F’s peak brightness was too much for my pitch black viewing environment anyway. Other than that, the 900F has been highly praised by owners and professionals alike. I hope that whatever minor issues it has, they’re livable. I can accept imperfections… just not at a $3500 price point, which is where the Z9F is at.

So after having this tv for 3yrs now, it finally has been giving me issues. I don’t believe the tv is bad but the software is was started the issues. Over all I had countless hours of amazing image quality and sound but now after 3 repairs it time to say good bye and Best Buy was able to refund me the money because I bought a 5 year warranty.

I was debating whether to purchase the OLED version, but I decided upon the LED. This TV is a major investment and my opinion is that you will get your money's worth. The picture is nice and bright and delivers more than acceptable black images. I've noticed minimal edge light bleed, but of course there is that small bloom aura in these local dimmed LEDS. So, for the Dolby Vision, screen size and built-in apps I recommend this tv.

    Fabulous LCD

I have been a videophile for many years dating back to the 80s. Have owned a Sony reference standard monitor, Samsung Full array, local dimming and a Pioneer Kuro. Spent a month viewing the Z9F against the Samsung Q9FLN. Side to side the Z9F exhibited more shadow detail and great colors. Important to me was off axis view as I sit in various places in the room. This has traditionally been an issue for LCD. I was shocked how well the Sony retained the picture at 30* off center. I didnt see any blooming effect and the bars are as black as I need. Even though I like Samsung products the Z9F beat it in every way. If you are really serious, compare the two side by side and you will see a difference
