Great sound, but needs some work.
First, sub-woofer doesn't always connect.
Second, it really could use rear speakers.
Third, it has no display that says Dolby Atmos and/or DTS-X is engaged. You just have to assune it's working. Really?
Having said that, the sound is rich, immersive and full. And, it's easy to connect.
It has multiple pre-set sound options: clear voice, movie, 3D, standard etc., which do have noticeable differences.
In spite of its problematic deficiencies, it packs a wallop of a sound.
Would I recommend? Yes, but connection reliability with sub-woofer and absence of rear speakers must be addressed if true object-based audio is to be realized.

We have been wanting to simplify our home theater and eliminate speaker wires running all over. So we finally decided on a sound bar system. We went to the store and Keith helped us with specs and we previewed Bose, Sonos, Samsung and Sony. We went with the Sony system as it seemed tighter in the bass and had all the connections we needed for our future needs as well as being 7.1 and Dolby Atmos equipped. This unit has some serious impact and when the volume is up it will impress for sure. All the settings seem spot on and crystal clear. I highly recommend this unit.

The sound that comes out of this Sony Soundbar is the best that i have ever heard. The bass is excellent and the sound is very clear. It's everything i expected from Sony and more. It was very easy to set up and i love that the Subwoofer is wireless. This Soundbar was worth every penny!

This is a wonderful sound bar and has very clear sound. I can’t hear the atmos as much when playing an atmos test (from youtube) but can hear a sound move across the sound bar. The upward firing sound may not be heard due to my vaulted ceiling but is a wonderful sound bar. Got it for my oled tv and pairs wonderfully to my iPhone and a Windows 10 pc using the Bluetooth option in windows. (You will have to open “sound” in the control panel and find the ST-5000 and pair and also select this as the default sound while selecting BT option on the sound bar first.)

this machine was better then I thought, and recent firmware update with dts/ dtsx made this beast a monster. I tried the bose and Samsung k950. Hands down this beats both of those in quality and overall sound. Samsung does have the rear speakers that gives it the surround sound but overall the sony sounded better, clear, and more crisp...and the sub that this monster comes with is hands down "sweet". If you don't want speakers all over the place and looking for soundbar, this is the one!

First time Sony buyer and I’m impressed. I’ve always had a component system but needed to down size. Sound quality from this bar is excellent, clean and crisp. Fills a room quite well for its size. The Dolby Atmos effect is not all that impressive though.
Set up was fairly easy but need to be carefully gone though to get the sound quality and volume control.

Wow, so impressed with this sound bar. I have thrown everything at this thing and it keeps impressing me. I live in a condo in NYC and barely need to turn this up less than halfway to shake the walls.
The decoding is great as well when I use my headphones, sounds are much more clear than previous sound systems I have used. Similar to my old Onkyo THX certified 7.1 system I used to have.

I purchased a 65" Sony Bravia A8H a couple months ago. Cost a fortune, but the picture is great. I saw a sale on a Bose 5 soundbar on ebay the day after and bought that to accompany my new TV.
While sitting in bed about a week ago I noticed that I had the Bose 5 volume level on at 70. A lightbulb went on then that maybe I had a lousy soundbar. I disconnected it and had the sound come out straight from the A8H Bravia TV. It was amazing in comparison, I was getting the same sound out of the TV on level 20 as I was out of the soundbar on 70.
I quickly realized that I spent a fortune on an amazing TV but did my self a diservice by skiming on the sound. After 3 days of research I went with this Sony soundbar.
I went with the Sony for 2 reasons.
1. Its a high end Sony, and my TV is a High end Sony. I figured if ANY soundbar was going to easily integrate with my TV it would be this soundbar.
2. The reviews and youtube videos I watched all said this bar was great and on par or exceeding that of the current high end Bose soundbar (the 700, not the cheesy one I bought a couple months ago).
So I went to the Magnolia section of the BestBuy in Albany NY and picked up this soundbar. The Box is an awkward carry, but its possible to fit it in the back of a small SUV and move it around by yourself.
Its packed well and its a solid product. I had the soundbar set up in my bedroom under the Bravia TV and linked in about 10 minutes.
Once it was configured properly the first thing I noticed was that I now only needed the remote for my television. When I turned my TV off the soundbar went into standby. When I turned it on, the soundbar went back on. Unlike all the other random soundbars I have throughout my house, under normal use I just need the 1 remote. So the 1st reason why I got this soundbar (listed above) was fulfilled.
Upon putting on a UHD 5.1 dolby copy of Bourne Identity I realized the second reason had been fullfilled aswell. The sound is amazing. I'm not an audiophile, but the sound was such a step up from any other sound system that I've previously owned that I found myself sitting in the dark on my bed at 2 in the afternoon on a weekday, watching a movie I've seen a dozen times. I was 40 minutes into Bourne Identity before I realized I was geeking out on the audio. Anyways later that night I watched another movie with Atmos TrueHD, which utilized all 7.2.1 speakers. It was an interesting experience. In the first few minutes of the movie I could swear I heard birds chirping from my ceiling.
All in all I spent about $1900 on this between tax and a 4 year warranty. If you have $2k to spend on beefing up your entertainment sound system I think it would be money well spent.

i love this soundbar. was on sale. open box. associate at south tampa best buy actually let me test it before buying. he convinced me not to worry about the other brand that comes with rear speakers. he told me rear speakers won't transmit much sound. i had an old home theater system with rear speakers (wired) and sound would come through once in a while through out an entire movie.
that being said, as long as a movie or tv show has dolby atmos sound, you will really appreciate the sound quality. its hard to explain, but it feels like sound is coming from every direction. and i'm talking rich, quality sound that even naked ears can hear the difference. youtube music videos even sound better in this thing. if you like bass you will appreciate the subwoofer.

Full rich sound with deep base sub woofer. Easy set up and takes up very little space. Adjust sub woofer levels with remote. It’s not full stereo surround but close as you can get without all the wires and receiver.

This sounder exemplifies great music and sets itself apart from other Soundbars. Sony has done an excellent job and I have enjoyed streaming my music as well as watching the movies through the TV. This soundbar is the best sounding soundbar in the store. its a premium soundbar with high quality sound and i love the experience Im getting right now. with 7 speakers in the front and 2 forward firing Atmos speakers on the top it really gives you a great surround sound experience with the 3D sound thanks to the Atmos speakers. i picked up 2 movies to test out the atmos and surround sound, pacific rim in 4k and transformers age of extinction. both these movies sound amazing in my living room, i love how clear the sound is and how the bass is leveled around my room and getting a projectile surround without having back speakers, on top of that how the Atmos speakers bounce off your ceiling to you, that effect is remarkable.
i would suggest getting audioquest HDMI cables instead of using the inbox ones. only because that hdmi gives you and way better separation and clarity in the sound. you can tell if you swap cables and play a song using the built in chromecast audio.
i would definitely recommend this

Great demo given by store associate.! I am a musician and sound is very important to me. I have to experience the variety and depth of sound created before I commit to a product. This was amazing for a sound bar with a full deep bass.
Easy to set up following instructions and choosing my preferred settings. Love that the connection cords are all supplied too. It picks up my HD4K tv and HD Blueray DVDperfectly and is tuned to the acoustics of my great room perfectly. The sound is spaced so well I don’t feel I need rear speakers for the room.
My spouse has hearing aids and is impressed with the voice control feature. Can’t wait for football season! Lol ! Buy it. I think you will be happy with the choice.

Was choosing between this and Bose 700 with sub. Sony system had a fuller sound incredible base in comparison. However Bose has much crisper highs and a bit better surround simulation on regular TV. When watching 4K the Sony sounds amazing, ATMOS is off at times and the projection of the rear surround is a bit delayed. Amazing sound balance and the sub woofer is one of the best I have heard. Overall happy I choose this system over the Bose system.
