Great sound bar compare to others

I had multiple sound bars from JBL 400SB to Sony CT380, this one just blows the others away with its clarity. The sounds are considered to me the best from a sound bar with its 7.1. So if anyone have space limitations, the is a soundbar to get.

    HDCP 2.2 4K Not Supported

My previous review was deleted by Sony and/or Best Buy. This device does not support 4K as it is advertised to do. It does not pass HDCP 2.2 content (copy-protected 4K content) nor does it support 4K HDR content (its not HDMI 2.0a compliant). Repeated contacts with Sony support about this issue have gone unanswered - they blame whatever device you are trying to hook up to it and won't respond to any questions about possible firmware update fixes. If you are buying this soundbar based on its advertised support of future 4K devices I'd stay away. The sound quality is good, but not superior to lower priced soundbars.

    Soundbar doesn't last long

I had the soundbar for about 6 months and then started noticing that one of the speakers sounded like it was going bad. I contacted Sony and they had me send it in for repair. They repaired the bad speaker and sent it back to me. I was without the soundbar for about a month. Within a few more months a speaker went bad on it again and it is now out of warranty so I am now out of luck. I highly recommend that people in need of a quality soundbar that will last and stand the test of time look for something not made by Sony.

    no surround sound impression

I waited a while to buy this sound bar .Sony HT-ST9 I deeply regret it. Bass is very loud totally overwhelming middle ranges and making dialogues difficult to understand. I compared against Bose sound-bar and realized that while the Bose was giving me some good feeling of surround the Sony gave none. I waited too long to open the box so i cannot return. 55 ' 4 K TV by Sony is OK but nothing amazing and remotes are impossible to operate in the dark. Sony has been known not to honor warranty blaming the shipper for product defects so stay clear of that brand

Does not support Full 4K or HDR Pass-Through

I purchased this soundbar to replace my older Sony 7.1 soundbar because I purchased a new Sony 4K TV for the bedroom. I also purchased an Xbox One S as a 4K player. Any input that is entered only shows up on the TV as 1080P. I changed the TV's HDMI input to "Enhanced HDMI" but it did not change anything. I opened the settings on the Xbox and it stated that the TV (it's reading the actual soundbar, not the TV) did not support anything. It said it was 8-bit 4K but no HDR or anything else. It showed so many red X's. I connected the Xbox directly to the TV and everything was glorious. Nothing but green checks on the Xbox. However, the soundbar is now only getting the average audio from the ARC connection on the TV. It is not processing any of the Hi-Res sound. I looked online and found no fix for this other than maybe a firmware upgrade from Sony(There is none). In conclusion, the soundbar sounds amazing and it works really well with BraviaLink on my Sony TV, but it doesn't pass-through HDR content and that is a deal breaker for me. Especially for a soundbar at this price. This is going back.

Hello EnewTEEL! We recommend trying the following steps to make sure that your Sony television is sending a 5.1 signal to your Soundbar: Using the supplied IR remote control, press the HOME button, Scroll down and select Settings, Under the TV category, select Sound, Select Speakers, Select Audio system. ~Jeannette sony_US

Sounds Bad in less than 6 months

Purchased the unit in September 2015. The sound quality began to go down 2 months after use. By April 2016 the unit had such a bad reverb on any high frequency sound that it was unbearable to use. Sony paid to have shipped back for repair. I tried to purchase additional insurance in case of damage during shipping but was not allowed. Unit got damaged beyond repair in shipping Sony kept dragging their feet to replace unit. After several frustrating calls with Sony customer service and empty promises they have finally agreed to send new unit after I informed them I would be calling back everyday until the problem was resolved. New unit should be here in 4 days. I will update this review if/when my new unit arrives.

    Distortion

    Posted .

This is the first review I've ever left. Prospective buyers need to know about this. Google this model number and distortion before purchase... I wish I did. Purchased from Best Buy after demo it on the floor. At home it worked ok with ok sound for about 14 months. It then developed a distortion at almost any volume. This is okay if you like voice that sounds as though it's through a kazoo. I don't and naturally it's out of 12 month warranty. It has rendered the sound bar useless. I expect a 1500$ sound bar would have lasted for years not months being that it is adult owned and used at only reasonable volumes. If you do buy this soundbar recommend you buy the protection from bestbuy too. I now have to buy another sound bar... it will not be a Sony.

    Distortion Issues

I bought this product at BB over a year ago and have used it minimally due to distortion issues with the right outside speakers. If you do buy this, make sure to get the extended warranty with BB. I'm screwed as my warranty expired and Sony forces you to ship this to NY for repair. What a joke!!! Beware with this purchase and protect yourself.....
