I have the str dn1040 and thought this would be a good upgrade for my hdr equipment. Wasnt impressed with the sound quality compared to my 1040s rich deep sound so I returned.

So difficult to make work! Wanted a simple stereo for outside speakers bought this and can't get it to make a sound. Worst buy ever!!

Basic entry-level receiver, several options and nice GUI. Sound is sub-par to a higher end system such as Denon.

The center speaker terminal and Sub woofer terminal is not working properly , I plan to return it

Had to buy a secondary receiver as it would not handle my 10 speakers

This receiver has problems communicating through the ARC input. Both the tv and receiver are Sony. Sometimes it works okay other times it doesn't.

I took a chance on this Sony reciever. The price was right and it had a lot of nice features. I got it home, checked the instructions, hooked everything up......nothing. No sound at all. I double checked the instructions and the connections, still nothing. It didn't even work for a second. Packed it up and exchanged it for a Yamaha reciever, which has worked flawlessly.

You need a degree in electronics to get this thing setup, direction are so hard to understand. Sorry I bought it !

Had this unit 2 days and the HDMI Out Stopped working. Returned. Worked great up until that point.

Overall the specs are nice, and when it worked it did what you would expect. BUT - after 18 months the HDMI Input/Output Failed. No matter what we tried the AV receiver stopped being able to take a signal from one of the inputs and push it to our Sony projector. Apparently this is common with the new SONY AVS receivers. Be warned.

Ok for the price, configuring could have been simple.

I bought an open box, thinking I saved 100 box per sales person, but that was not true at all. And it does not even have an English version of the manuals. I returned this product. I felt not to trust the sale person any more!

It would not switch over or function the second zone audio. Only the first zone worked and ended up returning it.

I purchased this receiver to replace a 13 year old Sony that was starting to lose sound to the front channels. I purchased it because I liked the sound of my old receiver and read good reviews on this unit. I am very pleased with the audio this receiver puts out. It has plenty of power and produces a somewhat airy sound that I find pleasing. It pairs nice with our mobile devices and music is very enjoyable. My intent was to not only have good audio, but also be able to upscale video to 4k. What I have found to be the negative is that I am unable to upscale Dish service to 4k with this receiver. It will upscale blu-ray, but not tv channels or Apple TV. I have called Sony tech support numerous times and have been met with rude support people all but one of my calls, and each call has ended when they put me on hold and I am disconnected. I am unable to find out if this will upscale with Directv and hope someone reading this will have that answer as no one at Sony seams to know. I would return this but am out of the 14 days Best Buy allows. My son has a Yamaha that upscales nicely and should have purchased that. Will probably sell, take the hit, and NOT purchase Sony again.

I read other reviews stating this was a hard unit to set up, but I was thinking it was the exact opposite. I had a Sony STR-DE 985. I was working fine other then it had no HDMI input or outputs resulting way to many cables to get things done. Always sounded good till I replaced it today. The calibration mic made setup so much easier than my old system where I literally had to input distances to get it to sound right. The 1070 just blows it away! I setup my older Sony BDP-S550 Bluray and tweaked a few setting on it. I stuck in a test DVD, the first Iron Man. The beginning of that movie just rocked the whole apartment!! I guess I need to keep it down a little. :)

I will say that this is my first receiver venturing away from soundbars. Pairs well with my Samsung 4k tv and the sound is fantastic! can also pair with a set of sony wireless speakers so that you can get the 5.1 surround sound without wires having to go through your space. I will also say that if you really want to get the most out of your av receiver and products that are linked up to it..... make sure that your hdmi cables are definitely up to par. Now I'm not saying get a pair of expensive cables.. but definitely make sure that your hdmi cables are premium certified. rocketfish premium certified hdmi cables are not nearly as expensive as other more commercial name brand... but they are just as good for a lot less thanks to that premium certification by hdmi. you will not go wrong!

This is my 2nd Sony Receiver, the older one still working good, I bought the 1070 model cuz, its compatible to my new SMART TV, all HDMI support 2.2 HDCP great sounds for movie & music. I do not regret buying from BEST BUY last year same price right now. It comes with Advance features you can monitor the set up from your TV.

Powerful and clear sound, 4k hdmi ports works perfectly for my 4k Directv receiver

Wiring was confusing when utilizing 5.1 format. System was stuck in 7.1 format and kept returning missing speakers error during setup. Programming the thirty presets for FM are totally missing from the included manual. you have to complete a search online to find the procedure. When wanting to watch SAT TV everything works as it should as long as you turn on SAT Receiver last but occasionally it will switch to TV input and w/SAT picture showing on screen which leaves you with picture and no sound. Will troubleshoot this this weekend. I upgraded all of my HDMI cables to ULTRA HD HDMI ones. 18G throughput. Remote select button works when it wants to navigating the on screen menu is easy selecting the feature you want to modify is more miss than hit. Will call Sony for A new remote I'm hoping this will fix this issue. Rated three stars because of these issues. If all features worked as advertised with sound quality being 5 stars would have rated higher.
