I tried two 65" LG CX 65" OLEDs, and three 65" A90J OLEDs, all with some bad screen uniformity issues (all of which were likely just due to bad batches). I ended up "settling" on this out of frustration with my bad A90J luck, and I'm so glad I did. The brightness downgrade from A90J to A80J was barely noticeable. The tv is still plenty bright for my living room, where the tv doesn't face a window but still a has lot of sunlight to make reflections. What did make a difference, and a massive one, was the bigger screen size for the money. I bought this at $3500 and it was much better value than the A90J for $500 more at the time. Now that it's $3000 and $700 cheaper than the A90J it's an absolute no-brainer if you want perfect blacks, amazing HDR impact, and really great color accuracy out of the box. That's if you don't have it directly facing a bright window that you can't black out. My extremely picky eyes still still see some small screen uniformity issues, but only when I'm looking for them, even then they don't ruin the experience.

LOVE!!! LOVE THE BRAVIA LINE. We had a Sony Bravia prior and it still runs and works great but we needed something bigger so we upgraded from a 55" to a 77". The colors are so vivid and crisp. It transitions smoothly. The only way we will get another TV is if we get bigger again and I am sure it will be another Bravia.

Great TV, Sony support not so great. Been doing a lot of research the past couple months to upgrade a current TV. All the information can be confusing and difficult to define. The TV I replaced was in a well lit room. Bright? Define bright. Side windows and two skylights. Always had an afternoon glare on the LED TV for about 2-3 hours a day in the summer. Cover the skylights in the summer to keep room cool. Most “expert” opinions were basement, OLED; above basement, LED. Went to Best Buy Magnolia and one rep says Samsung QLED and another says Sony LED. Again, think it comes down to preference. Decided to go with OLED and it was the right choice. Picture cannot be described. Almost as you’re there. As far as reflections, not as bad as what I thought it might be. A little more noticeable than the LED, but not enough for me to return. Most of my TV watching is at night and might get some direct sun late afternoon for about 30 minutes. I can’t comment on sound since it’s hooked up to a Bose Lifestyle system. Wall mounting was no problem. This TV's mounting bracket area is lower than the Sony LED I replaced so it sits higher on the wall. I currently have a “case” opened with Sony Support. The display does not reach the edge of the screen which is especially noticeable at the bottom. Also, I am not able to adjust the picture size using any device. Sony Blu-ray, ROKU Premiere 4K, Apple TV 4K, and the TV itself. Default setting is off for Auto Adjust. Open any of these Apps on any device and TV display settings are grayed out and can’t be changed. Did an online chat and removed all devices and factory reset the TV. Didn’t resolve the issue so they said they would elevate to the “Engineers.” Told them I work until 5 pm, so they call me at work at about 3:45 pm. Didn’t take my TV to work that day so I was out of luck. Called back when I got home, only to be told that I needed to send pictures and that I can’t change the display. In the meantime, Best Buy swapped out the TV when I explained the circumstances. Same issue with this TV and I get an email that they’re trying to contact me. Called back and tech said the black bar was supposed to be there. I asked about not being able to change display settings and he said they didn’t include that in the original ticket. Techs are working from home since a kid is crying and dog barking in the background. I asked for a manager and they put me on with someone else. Sounded like roosters crowing in the background where she's working at. Says she would update the ticket and transfer me back to tech support since they have troubleshooting steps to do. Told her I went thru all of that on Sunday. 25 minute call to accomplish nothing and put me right back to where I started. So to sum it up, if you want a TV that has a great picture and a picture that you cannot adjust the size, this is for you. If you want a TV that lacks manufacturer customer support, this TV is for you. If you feel that for $3500 you should be able to change the display size and they give you the option to disable in the settings, than this TV isn’t for you. If you feel that after spending $3500 of your hard earned money on a TV and expect a certain level of support from the manufacturer, then this TV isn’t for you. Almost 4 days for an “engineer” to say the bar is wider at the bottom on this model TV.

I purchased a 77-inch Sony Bravia OLED In September in 2021 from Best Buy. We bought a Best Buy total tech warranty recommended by the Best Buy salesman. Since buying the Sony we have been experiencing the screen going blank except for a line on the left side of the screen from the top to the bottom. I get sound but no screen. The second issue is a double image screen. The third issue is the screen is scrambled and unviewable. The only way to correct it is by unplugging the TV and plugging it back in. We have had the Best Buy geek squad hear several times while under warranty. They changed the main board twice, updated the software several times and set it back to factory setting several times. Now that the warranty has expired Best Buy will no longer service it without a charge. Frankly they have no idea how to fix it even though the tech was very knowledgeable. I contacted Sony and they told me to try the same trouble shooting steps that Best Buy did. Sony said that they cannot do anything for me because the warranty is now expired. It’s obvious that this Sony model has a defect that they have no idea how to correct it. I’m done buying Sony products and I’m done buying them from Best Buy.

Replaced a 75" LED with this 77" OLED (yes I'm TV fanatic who watches a lot of 4k programming) and love the color depth and picture quality and blacks. At the end of one movie I watched in a darkened room, the white text movie credits were scrolling up on a black background and the letters literally looked like they were floating in mid air... you couldn't see the TV black at all. Very cool. Also like the automatic picture feature that changes the picture mode based on what you're watching... (movies vs. sports vs. game modes). TV also does a better job than previous Sony's I've owned with the automatic brightness feature that adjusts for ambient light in the viewing room. Wife was amazed with this TVs overall brightness. Note to those using this TV's speakers, Even though I have a high quality amp and surround sound system with its own speakers, During initial setup I was surprised at the sound quality of the screen imbedded speakers and even played around with it and sampled some YouTube music vids. If this TV was for a bedroom or smaller room, I'd recommend listening to the TV sound first before purchasing a sound bar or additional speakers, you may not feel you need them.

Great quality OLED tv. Compared this to the LG equivalent and this one just had more crisper/detailed quality due to the sony processer being used (YouTube side by side comparison). Sony also released an updated firmware to add variable refresh rate support (aka same thing as Gsync & Freesync).

This is simply the best television in this price range hands down. No need for Roku or Amazon Firestick! The television is so easy to set up and all of my streaming apps are available. The Google service can be customized to recommend shows across my apps and will search for the content I enjoy viewing. The picture is very clear and sharp. Some reviews mention the picture is a bit dark and that may be the case for you right out of the box, but that can be tweaked in the settings to the brightness and contrast you prefer. It is an amazing television and the OLED well worth the cost over what an LED set runs. So much nicer than similar sized Samsung (QLED) and LG televisions!

I can not adequately articulate just how impressed I am with this tv for the money. We purchased the 77” on sale for 2999.99 but would have been worth the full price at 3500 easily. Like all OLEDs they are best in a dark room. But this one sits in our living room which can be quite bright with our shades open. And I have absolutely no issues seeing a clear picture. There are some reflectuons but I’ve seen worse. We paired ours with the Sony 3.1 Dolby atmos sound bar and all I can say about the two together is Wow! A perfect fit. If you’re looking for an OLED I strongly recommend the A80J.

Stunning OLED TV, after 2 months of use we are still in awe every time we turn it on. Calibration is great right out of the box. No need to change much. The TV strives on 4k HDR Dolby content but it also enhances regular SDR HD content fairly well. I was worried about watching sports but it’s great for sports as well. It looks beautiful. Incredibly thin but sturdy on the stands. Audio is pretty good too. Go for the 77 inches like we did if you can afford it. The bigger, the more you will enjoy this great piece of technology. If you are a gamer consider some limitations on the hdmi ports and other gaming features that LG oled have. But I’m a casual gamer and still love gaming on this Sony TV

I got this TV after a bad experience with Samsung Q90A neo, I had to replace my panel one time and had problem with colors again and Samsung finally decided to give me refund. I watched and read a lot of review about that Sony, I was a little concern about the TV performance specially in bright room. I got TV for a little over week and I can tell, this TV is awesome, without doubts it is a great experience, colors and contrast are awesome. To be honest Qled Samsung was more bright but Sony is doing really great work in my super bright living room. Movie experience is away much better than Samsung Qled. Contrast, dark colors and black is really good. The worst part is, it is not working good with my Samausng sound bar q900A, I might end up returning TV. I wish if I can reach out to someone from bestbuy so we can find a better solution to get soundbar work better with the TV or if there is an option to swap my Samsung sound bar with Sony sound bar.

Decided to try the A80J 77” and am incredibly pleased. After 2 weeks zero problems other than having to rewatch movies since everything looks so great. 77” has a traditional glossy OLED screen while the 55” and 65” have more of a matte finish. Not sure why. A90J gets brighter but the A80J gets plenty bright. If you’re looking for a great TV this is it. Go to Best Buy and take a look. It really pops. Buyer’s remorse will only be due to the price, not the picture.

The 77" A80J replaced a 65" Sony 900E. I was concerned because I have a lot of light in the room through windows behind and to the left of the TV. That was not a big issue as long as I don't watch really dark scenes during the day. Otherwise, it's plenty bright. There are reflections when the TV is off, but not that different than a Samsung 90T. I was using a Bose Solo 5 Sound bar with the 900E. The Bose wasn't that great. I don't have a sound bar connected to the A80J and the sound is spectacular. Voices seem to come from the person speaking. It's clear. Clean bass if the volume isn't cranked. I have a Yahama YAS-203 currently connected to the 900E and I think the A80J sounds a little better. The stand is solid. It's nice to have the legs 40" apart instead of at the end of the TV. A 2-3/4" soundbar would fit nicely underneath with a 1/16" to spare. Originally I had a problem with Netflix shows stopping after 10 minutes and reverting to the home screen. I went into settings, apps, and "Chromecast Built-in", which is a system app, cleared the data, and the problem is gone. I've watched golf and track and no issues with motion using out-of-the-box setting. I haven't done any picture calibration.

Over the years there have been a few tvs that have stood the test of time and remain special to this day. The list includes the Samsung ks8000, the Panasonic plasma vt60, the Sony 900e, and Sony z9d to name a few. You can add the a80j in 77 version to the list. It is a sure-fire future classic. The 77 inch version is not only brighter than the 55 and 65 because of the newer evo panel, but surpasses the a90j in enough areas to solidify it as the best of 2021 imho. It is built like a tank and arguably has a better build quality than most tvs of any brand til this day. The banding issues that are present on the more typical size 65 inch oleds (although sony has less issues) is not present with the 77 inch versions. I have read sony spends more effort selecting these in particular much like the a90j. The sound from the speakers is phenomenal and could easily replace quite a few soundbars. Because of the placement of sound on screen it does provide a type of surround and defintely a satisfying front stage, although you will wish for just a touch more base but not much. The Google interface as well as the tvs on screen menus are easy to use and more importantly they are responsive. There are few things worse than a menu system that is too complicated and does not resond quickly to inputs. No problem here. After many months of research and hands on with every tv available (except a95k) it is true that the sony processing is what ultimately makes this the best picture for movies and hdr overall for all 2021 tvs as well as yes most 2022 tvs as well. I have never seen a tv that has more controls to affect the picture in a real way than this one. See you can make this tv with the controls look like just about any tv you want on the market, but they can't make themselves look like a sony. That's the difference. You add in the processing and it just puts the sonys over the top. The only reason i thought about getting a Samsung s95b is because i only sit about 8.5 feet away from the screen in the room im in, but i think i will just get used to being immersed in the picture. This 77 inch version is about 100 nits brighter than the 55/65 and about 3 % less than the a90j. The 77 is the a90j without the heat sink period. The added benefit is this tv could run for a week straight and never even get warm to the touch. At this huge size it's the coolest running tv i have ever owned so if you have a smaller room and can't afford any extra heat this will be one of the few you can use. There are 65 inch a80js with the new evo panel that are reportedly out there, but your not at all guaranteed to get one even after purchasing several units. The 77 version held it's own in comparison with the Samsung s95b when i saw them side by side except for a few scenes in hdr that called for extreme brightness. Then the s95b has the edge but the 77 inch a80j is 40% larger than a 65 inch and the sheer size of the screen more than makes up for whatever differences in picture quality. I never write reviews but maybe this could help someone. The 77 a80j is special.

I’ve owned Panasonic plasmas for 10 years and still love them. But this 77” A80J has the sharpest picture I’ve ever seen. And it is plenty bright enough for any room. A worthwhile purchase. Highly recommended. However, and everything in life comes with a however, Sony and tech in general need to iron out the kinks in this new HDMI 2.1 / eARC technology. I won’t fault Sony in particular but I am experiencing what others have mentioned — faulty handshakes, audio drops, Dolby Vision not being ID’d, etc. Hopefully it won’t be too long before a new firmware update calms some of these 2.1 issues. Still, I’m enjoying this TV immensely.
